Anyone else a Slow but steady loser? Due to several health issues and medications (too long to go into) I find myself in the slow but steady crowd. I restarted my journey in late April and I have just now crossed the down 30 pounds portion of my goal. My doctor is great and very supportive and he continues to encourage me. I think he is afraid I will get frustrated and quit but I plan on plugging away at the last 60 I need to lose. It is just FRUSTRATING and I was looking for a kindred spirit(s) to offer support and encourage (I will return the favor)....

I do eat very healthy and watch my calories like a hawk. I also work out 4-5 times per week.

:hourglass

Ok. I'm getting back on the wagon after some time off. I'm a constant maintainer but then I gained and so I'm back.

I always fall off because off the slowness of my weight loss. WW should make you feel supportive....but seeing people get their 5lb stickers in the first weeks when it would take me 3 months.

So I'll be with you for the slow!

hello  I fit into your category!! I am recovering from Cushing's disease via removal of my adrenal glands and so I am steroid dependent now...with 36 lbs left to lose of the 55 that I gained while sick. I understand your frustration!!

if you are interested please feel free to join us in the monthly weight loss challenge, join in anytime...there is info on the first couple of posts on how it goes. most of us aim for just a couple pounds a month...like you said...slow and steady!

if not, i'm happy to chat up and vent about meds and doctors and living with a chronic illness and trying to lose weight with you. you would probably be good for me, i'm moderate in my calories counting, I could definitely do better

HOWDY! Sorry you are also a slow loser but glad to find a kindred soul. I used to do the group thing but also got frustrated! My motto is "slow and steady still reaches the finish line". Feel free to share any tips or coping advice you have. This is my 2nd journey (I lost 97 lbs and kept it off for 5 years until I started having health issues) too but didn't have the slow issue the first time. I find it hard to not compare how I was able to lose in the past...

Hello :wave2: Thanks for the tip about the challenges. I have seen the threads but not even bothered to look since I figured most folks would have pretty aggressive goals. I will be sure to check them out!

Sorry to hear about your Cushings (that was one of the million things I was tested for), the nodules on my adrenal glands are benign so I am VERY lucky with that. In May 2013 I was declared 1 year cancer free (lung stage 0). It was caused from a fungal infection that got into my lungs due to the immune suppression drugs for the Crohn's. The steroids (Crohn's too) allowed it to grow like wild fire and the blood thinners complicated my treatment (I sound very unhealthy but I am really not). I am one of those folks that never gets a cold but ends up with lung cancer, I don't stain my back I end up collapsing a disk and ending up with a 6 inch rod in my back.

Anytime you want to vent about doctors (I am sure we could both tell stories that would scare most folks off ER's and doctors forever) or meds and their side effects feel free. I am very lucky that my family doctor kept pushing for the specialist to keep looking, he actually saved my life so there are still some good ones out there. The only issue is that now if I so much as sneeze he wants to run a million tests since it took over a year and the loss of 1/2 of lung to figure out why I kept getting short of breath.

I am actually very good about counting my calories as it was something I did the first time I lost weight. My diet is very low fat but also low fiber due to the Crohn's. I tried eating Paleo but after 6 months my Crohn's had gotten so much worse I needed another surgery. I tried eating low residual and it has really helped me. I joke and call it the "white bread" diet. Here is a little pixiedust: to help with your next ounce lost!

If my husband were a Dis'er he'd be right with you. He follows WW to the utter best of his abilities, but he is still dealing with a pituitary tumor that creates prolactin and a naturally really slow metabolism (we blame it on his mom putting him on constant diets from when he was only 3 years old), and since February of 2012 he has lost 45 lbs (for perspective, if he can hit the WW weight range, he will have lost exactly 200 lbs). He also travels for work, and so has to dine out just about half of the year. SO stinkin' hard.

And he's got the man thing, too, where everything says that men lose fast, but not ALL men do.

Oh and it's very helpful to have a helpful doctor (like yours). DH has a really good endocrinologist who totally gets DH's challenges and is supportive of any loss OR maintain. It's SO much better than GPs from his past who thought it was purely as simple as "eat less".

Remember that not *everyone* is getting the stickers, and a LOT of people that lose fast burn out fast, too. A lot of people who get to goal fast end up quitting well before they really have a handle on things.

My husband, with his slow slow losses, has been far more inspirational to the majority of our meeting group than those who have lost quicker. The stick-to-it-ness is AMAZING, and gives great practice for the maintenance part of our lives. Just keep going!

I'm there too. Heck for the past 3 months I've been in the stand still group but I'm pretty consistent with the slow and steady, I'm hoping to reboot when the kids start school next week. My schedule will actually slow down a lot once that happens.

I lose very slowly, it's taken me a year to lose 45 pounds. But I'm old, so I lose slower. I don't care how long it takes, I'm determined NEVER to be obese again.

Exercise is the key to keeping it off, I think -- and hope!

I thought I would share one of the ways I cope with my slow losses. I do weigh in weekly and have a number in my head I am shooting for but the goal sheet I keep posted has two goals on it. The first one is healthy eating and the second one is exercise. I have noticed that even if I go a few weeks with no loss or the dreaded gain that as long as I am exercising my body feels healthier. I know that may not work for everyone. I have said from the beginning that this is a race to health for me and not a race to a certain size jeans.

How you do cope?

I am a mom too so I know how hard it is when you are being pulled in 20 directions. Let us know how things go once the kiddies get back to school.

I am with you on the loss slowing with age. When I was in my 20's although it wasn't easy it was faster. Now that I am 46 I feel like every ounce is a fight.

I have read that exercise is the key for keeping off the weight. I would love to hear any tips you have!

I have 58 lbs left to go (down 75 so far) but it is a slow road getting there. I was at a stand still for 3 months loosing and gaining back the same 5 lbs. So frustrating!!! I know in my 20's it was so much easier to get rid of the extra weight but now I feel like I claw, kick and scratch my way to the next pound down! I have lost 7 lbs this past two weeks because I started taking a new supplement that gives me energy and takes away my hunger. :dance3: Not sure how long those effect will last but just glad to be off my plateau.:thumbsup2

Don't give up! Just remember we didn't gain the weight over night and we won't get rid of it over night either!

WOW! 75 lbs lost is IMPRESSIVE :thumbsup2. I am on what appears to be week 3 of another plateau. I seem to run in 3-4 week cycles. Nothing for 3-4 week and then a 2lb to 4lb loss.

Glad you are over your hump.

Last week I went to Martha's Vineyard with my DIL and two grandkids-- we left Tuesday and came back on Thursday-- and I registered a 4 pound gain! Yeah, yeah, we all know it's not fat, but it's WEIGHT and even water weight makes your clothes not fit right and your face puffy--at least it does on me! A week later, I finally lost it plus one more pound.

I just keep plugging on the diet--I'm highly sodium sensitive and gain and lose water weight constantly. I eat mostly Paleo with a bit of whole grains, fruit and Greek yogurt plus things like peanut butter. I'm a very boring eater, most of the time.

Exercise, I think, is really helping. I run --at my age, amazing, since I just started running in May, with C25K (I'm almost 63) around 4 miles 4 times a week. One day I do strength training with a personal trainer. Yes, it costs big bucks, but I'd kill myself trying to use machines at the gym. And I don't need more cardio--I need someone to tell me how to do strength training. So I pony up.

I lose about 3 pounds per month --4 on a good month-- on 1200 calories or less per day. This was one of the big revelations to me -- I can't eat very many calories per day. The combination of being older and short(5-1) really limits me. Forget about "eating back my exercise calories" -- I don't lose a thing when I do. Plus not I'm down to 136-- a loss of 48 pounds in a little over a year-- so I can't eat as much as when I started.

I don't care how long it takes any more--I just wish I'd done this a decade ago. One of my best friends who I've known forever said yesterday, "We DID lose it 10 years ago-- and 5 and 15 and 20 years ago." But this time I mean to make it stick.

Hang in there-- you can enjoy being thin for a lot longer than I can!

you are doing great! One of my bucket list items is to a 10K at Disney, I am slowing working my time and distance up on my running and have a target date of 2015 to hit one of the 10K's, the lung doctor wants me to take it very slow on the build up since I am down 1/2 a lung. She said it takes a few years until things stop "jiggling" around in that empty space and to build up better lung function (something about being able to take full breaths when missing part of a lung due to them working in tandem or something like that, I don't fully understand). I have always used running as a way to lose weight in the past and I a sure that not being able to do that much is adding to the slow loss issue.

I also have to very wary of calories, trouble is I love to eat! I eat a lot of roasted veggies in my salads and foods that I can have a lot of without a ton of calories.

Losing weight is like the smoking quote Mark Twain wrote with a little edit, "losing weight is easy, I have done it hundreds of times"....I too am bound and determined to be healthy and be able to still run in my 60's.

Good luck and keep up the good work. You still have a LONG time to enjoy your success!

Yup had the dreaded 2 lb gain this week:sad:, I know it is probably water or something but I feel like I just un-did a month worth of work. Thanks for letting me vent.

My goal this week was to lose my gain from last week (yes even though I figured it was bloating or something). I was :cool1: when weighed in this morning and not only did I lose those 2 lbs from last week 1 friend went with it this for a grand total weekly of 3 lbs. Total down 31 lbs!:banana::banana::woohoo::woohoo:

Good for you!!! Keeping track of my weight daily--yes, the thing "they" tell you not to do-- has helped me freak out a LITTLE less about these daily doggone fluctuations. Now I know that I'll gain weight--up to 6 pounds in a week on vacation or any time I eat "normally" for a few days -- but that it will fall off within another week, often taking another pound with it. It's just hard to see that gain when we work so hard!

I am also a slow loser. I lose 1-2 pounds a week. I started Curves Complete mid May and so far have lost 36 pounds. My goal is 70-75lbs.

I have had a really bad week as my brother moved this past weekend (2 day move) and had pizza & chinese food and then it was Canada's thanksgiving, so I feel like I would be lucky not to gain this week.

But, I am trying getting back on the wagon and eating healthy and within the diet plan but I am falling back on old bad habits.

I have a trip to WDW in Nov (for my bday!) that I am worried about. I did a 7 day cruise with my mom this Sept and gained 4.5lbs. Worried what I am going to gain in the 12 days I am on this trip (2 days travel as I am from the West Coast).
