Sloppy Joe's

love sloppy joes but only on really crisp potato chips!
We don't use buns! If you're gonna eat carbs, they
might as well be really good!

Which Sloppy Joes are you referring to? The cold or the hot?

The cold ones are made with Ham or Turkey or Roast Beef/Swiss/Cole Slaw and Russian Dressing on Rye Bread.

The hot ones are made with ground beef.

I love the cold ones.

I don't care for them, I no longer eat red meat. I make them occasionally for DH and sons though. They like them on those amish potato rolls.

Vicky, I've never heard of a "cold" sloppy joe before. I've seen something similar to what you desribe on lunch menus, and it's called a "Reuben" only it's made with corned beef.

Blondie, the Reuben's I've had have sauerkraut and are fried (served hot).

Cold Sloppy Joe's must be a North Jersey thing.

We adopted our son when he was 4. I asked him what type of food he liked to eat and he replied "slobby jokes"! I had no idea what he was talking about. He said that they made them at his school, so I talked to his teacher and she came up with sloppy joes. Seven years later, we still call them slobby jokes around here.

By the way, Blondie, I lightened up the recipe by using ground turkey and a can of black beans instead of ground beef. I have also recently discovered ground boca and will probably try that for our next batch--maybe tomorrow!
