Thank you so so so much for posting about this - I didn't know this was a thing.
I did what you said and joined the gold membership for free. You don't get any goodies that go along with it, but that's ok. I do like the spirit jersey, but I need another spirit jersey like I need a hole in the head.

Sorry to hear of your spirit jersey fixation; DD31 suffers from the same affliction! She wears them, but the price keeps going up and up. Fortunately, the ones she saw on her last trip were a tad, what shall I say... gaudy? so she was able to pass them up!

You are so welcome! It has only become a thing very recently (I just did this last week) - it definitely wasn't available until after the most recent D23 convention last month....

It was actually available before Destination D23. I did it then looked into signing up for a time slot for shopping. They were charging $40 just to go in and look at the merch! That really sours me on ever doing a paid membership. It's basically paying money for the chance to pay more money to go somewhere and spend more money.

Ah, fair enough - somehow I must have missed it then! I also remember seeing that it cost money just to buy a shopping pass (even at Gold level), was talking about that madness to someone just the other day....
