Our front door is locked always. DD has our garage opener on her car system so she can park there when she comes with grandson.

I have the code to enter DD's house, we do use that but they are always expecting us, usually to go watch grandson.

Only one of my siblings' family leaves their front door unlocked, and since we are driving several hours to see them, we do walk in as they are expecting us.

For our best friends we have an open door policy, of knocking while entering. And that goes not just for our house, but the entire friend group. For others i always knock and wait for entry.

We have dogs so I understand the desire to wait before permission is granted.

I usually open the front door when we are expecting company and they are welcome to walk right in. Usually they give a light knock and then just open the door. We really don't have anyone drop in, but I honestly wouldn't mind 95% of the time. I can walk into my mom's house (was my parents' house but my dad passed away in April), we live an hour and a half away so she knows when DH and I are coming to visit. Honestly either one of us could drop by whenever though and she would be offended if we knocked. I know who among my friends and family I can just do a courtesy knock and then just walk in.

We have a pin pad on our front door so anyone can let themselves in if they know it. If our garage is open then people tend to come into the house via its internal door. We are in a battleaxe block set way back from the street and have very high fencing surrounding us so no one comes down without our knowledge.

My MIL lives in the house up front - her back sliding door is unlocked during the day so we enter whenever we want and yell out to her as we do.

My Mum lives around two corners from us and again her door is closed but unlocked during the day so we enter and yell out “knock knock” so she hears us.

My two besties I enter their houses and sing out but anyone else’s house I knock and wait.
