Bought a new one in 1999 and it’s still going. I wish it would die so I could have a reason to get a new one.

We almost replaced the fridge a couple weeks ago. We bought it in 2004. Noticed on a late Saturday night that it wasn’t cooling. I quickly moved as much as I could to the deep freezer. Hubby researched the issue, discovered it could either be the compressor or the starter relay for the compressor. Ordered the part, shopped and researched for a fridge on Sunday. Part arrived Monday. New part fixed it. Fridge is working fine. At least if it does die, we know what we plan to get. Although it does seem like these days no brand stands out among the competition for reliability and long lasting.

I've never "had to replace my fridge" I rented until I bought a new build in 2020. The new build included kitchen appliances. Although I did pay extra to upgrade my oven/stovetop

Ugh, that’s so frustrating! Our fridge died a few years ago, and it was only 5 years old too. We ended up going with a white one, and I’m so glad we did. Hopefully you can get a good deal on one!

My parents bought our first refrigerator that's our current one and it's a Hotpoint and my parents had never bought a refrigerator before because when we lived in our many houses we always used the house's refrigerator. But my parents like our Hotpoint refrigerator because it actually is nice. And I had no idea Hotpoint was in business because I thought Hotpoint went broke. But Hotpoint was big in appliances during the 50's

Our fridge is roughly 15 years old. And with all due respect to your repairman we're dedicated Whirlpool people. We've never had an appliance we had to replace (except by choice-room remodel) in under about 20 years. But my parents once bought a Whirlpool refrigerator because we sang its' praises, and wouldn't you know theirs never worked right, and they ended up getting rid of it after about 3 years!

Same with Samsung. Our 20+ yo fridge is a Samsung. Dishwasher was a whirlpool and that also lasted 20 years. That bit the dust a few months back.
I would not buy a Samsung appliance these days.

Got a new one last year. Previous one had come with the house, which we bought 10 years earlier. It is a French door , with a middle drawer & bottom freezer. The middle drawer, which has dividers, can be converted to a freezer. Right now it contains soda cans, cheese & some other dairy.
Prefer it over the old one which was Side by Side door. A pain if you have wide items/dishes . Plus the old one only had 1 drawer for either veggies or fruit. The second drawer was a beverage cooler. Great for a garage fridge but not an everyday one.
The new one is stainless as was the one it replaced.
It also has a door-in door feature. We keep bottled water, salad dressing and ice tea & lemonade bottles. Plus a bottle of white wine.

Ours (LG) died winter 2021. After waiting 4 weeks for parts that didn’t come we found a scratch and dent (Samsung) French door fridge at Best Buy and bought it. Everyone had weeks long delivery times, and this one met our needs. Honestly don’t care about small dents, we’ve got kids and dogs. It’s bound to happen.

But it’s starting to fail. The ice machine stopped a year ago. Every now and then it makes loud noises. The digital symbols are glitchy.

I figure it’ll die just as our dryer dies, cause our appliances like to die together. 🙄

Honestly keep it going as long as you can. We had to buy a new one after previous was only 5 years old.
This is a Samsung, bought less than 1 years ago and already problems.
We're old and what a blessing those old-time appliances used to be. Seemed to last forever. So well made. These are junk.

I would NEVER get stainless again. (pretty yes, practical, no) I'm so darn sick of wiping handprints off it as it's insanely easy to see them and drives me nuts. And no children here anymore and we are careful opening and closing. And yet.....

I think our fridge is in the 15 year range. It kinda konked out once and my husband took it outside hosed and washed it down and lo and behold it's worked since. It's a MAYTAG.
I'm with you, SLO, I do not like stainless at all. I only have a stainless front dishwasher and I hate it.
Hate Hate Hate our stainless frig, dishwasher and microwave. I spend my life cleaning them and there's no children in the house and we are careful. So sick of it.
