We have a shower door in our master bath and a curtain in our 2nd bath. I much prefer a door, but we squeegee it after every use. It's easy for stuff to build up if you don't stay on top of it, especially if you have hard water.

I hate the way shower curtains float into the shower while I am using it and cling to my skin. It is a fight every time to get them to stay back. Although the curtains may be easier to replace, I much prefer a door. Both our bathrooms have shower doors that swing open, not sliders.

A curved shower rod can help with that, though it's not 100%. If you position it right though it should keep the curtain from being sucked inward.

I'm surprised to see that slightly more people prefer curtains over doors. I always felt like doors were more upscale and felt roomier.

We have both in our NC house where we are now living fulltime. I plan to remodel the master bath down the road and get rid of the huge whirlpool tub and exchange it for a walk-in shower - no door or curtain. The current showers in two of the three bathrooms are the size of cruise showers! I hate them so much.

My son's just built home has the type of master bath I want. It is gorgeous, huge and has a half wall but no door and no liners.

Main hall bath has a curtain/liner on an outward curved rod.

When I moved in the master bath had a separate shower with a clear glass door that opens outward. Maybe it looks more upscale but I’m a low end person and when the bathroom was updated I had the door removed and replaced with a curtain.

My parents’ master bath had the frosted glass door and I never liked that.

Main bathroom has shower door. I don't like the door, hard to keep the track clean. The other 2 bathrooms have shower curtains. Those are much easier to maintain.

Have always preferred the glass door to shower curtains. Partly depends on the design of your bathroom and the shower area. If you have shower/tub combination like we do for the guest bath, doors really aren't practical and the shower curtain/liner makes the most sense. Plastic shower liners tend to get mold/mildew since it is difficult to dry them completely. Shower that isn't also a bathtub usually has some sort of doors, some are hinged while others have a sliding door.

We have a hinged glass door in the master bath that works great, easy to clean and keeps the water from splashing all around the bathroom. There is a slopped floor in the shower, so the water easily drains when not in use. Not a fan of those 'open' looking showers I see online or those TV home design shows. Seems the water would splash all around and create a slippery floor when you step out of the shower. Also need to dry the floor more frequently to keep the water from doing damage to whatever is beneath the flooring.

Regardless of the exact configuration of the bath/shower, good idea to make sure there is adequate ventilation so it dries without developing mold/mildew.

One bathroom has a sliding shower door the other has a shower curtain. I despise cleaning the tracks of the sliding door. I also prefer one piece shower inserts vs tile just because I don't want to worry about cleaning & resealing the grout lines.

We have both. Master bathroom has doors. Guest bathroom has a curtain. But we only used the guest bathroom shower for a few weeks while we remodeled the master bathroom, so it hasn't been used in 10 years.
Face it, shower curtains suck. Yet to find one that keeps water in unless you are VERY careful when showering. The advantage, if they get dirty, you buy a new one for $2.97. Doors need to be cleaned.

Our master bathroom has a shower with a glass door you pull open and a separate bathtub. The other bathroom upstairs has a combined bathtub and shower with a sliding glass door.

We have curtains in our 2 baths. Our main bathroom which my daughters use had a sliding shower door when we moved in but we got rid of it and added a curtain. It was hard to clean and I thought it would be a pain with little kids. We had no kids when we moved in but started our family the following year. We do not have stand alone modern showers. In that case I like doors like in hotels.

We have both and I prefer a shower curtain. The shower in the basement bathroom is a smaller size, so only a sliding shower door works in that space. It’s a pain to clean. Especially the tracks and the hard to reach areas of the glass door where the two panels cross.

This house has shower curtains. My previous house had one with doors and the other with a curtain. I pretty much prefer curtains because I felt as if the doors were hard to clean.

The shower in the master bath has sliding doors and the shower/tub in the main bathroom has a curtain. I like/dislike them equally. I have learned that with a shower curtain, I MUCH prefer a curved rod. For the sliding shower doors, we dry them (and the rest of the stall) after each use so there isn't a lot of build-up BUT our shower doors are frosted (they are old... probably 35 years). I HATE clear shower doors. No privacy, and I am just uncomfortable with them even if I am the only one in the house. For me, worse than that is the clear shower panels. No privacy AND because the stall is half open, it's never warm enough for me; I always feel a cold draft coming in the open side.

I prefer glass doors/panels without a track. If a track is involved I’d rather have a curtain.

Our ensuite bath is tiny and has a hinged door that swings out so the track is along the side, not at the bottom. Door is frosted. It’s old and ugly.

Our main bath is a tub/shower combo. When we moved in it was a shower curtain. It was fine. We remodeled and decided to stay with a curtain, but i quickly decided I didn’t like how you couldn’t see the beautiful tile work so we had the contractor come back and add a glass panel. It is stationary so no track and extends about halfway across the tub lengthwise. It does make the back part of the shower tougher to clean—I basically need to be inside to do it, but it looks nicer. We did have a bit of a learning curve with the kids at first (youngest was 8 or so when we did it) as far as how the shower head needed to be positioned so the floor isn’t flooded, but after a few mishaps early on we didn’t have any more issues. It’s been 10 years and still looks good.
