Originally from Chicago - knew what it was from the title and had many many times. Love tavern style pizza. Took a little time after moving to CA to find a good on here and I did - they are originally from Chicago (mural of Wrigley Field and tons of Chicago sports memorbilia there). We always ask for paper thin and extra crispy, cut in squares of course. Our place does have a good deep dish but we really prefer the tavern style. And as @LilyWDW above me stated, tavern really is thinner than thin crust - there is a difference in the two.

We typically get sausage only, but sometimes add pepperoni. No veggies on the pizza. That is what a side salad is for. LOL

I am more familiar with the term “bar pie”, and there are several places nearby known for them. But there are also places known for their thin crust pizza, that just call it “pizza”!

The ones I have had are cut them in the regular triangle shape. Rectangle slices was usually reserved for an extra thick type, often referred to around here as Sicilian.

I’m not big on Sicilian, buy I love a grandma pie!

My daughter moved to Germany last year and last weekend was telling us she finally ordered pizza there. She was sharing websites from pizza places near her and there are some pizza toppings that are common there that I have not seen here.
Sliced hard boiled eggs, pretzels, asparagus with hollandaise sauce, dill pickles and baked potato chunks seemed to be offered at most pizza places there.
Don't flame me, I love pizza, but to me, PIZZA is PIZZA. I an unsophisticated pizza lover. I have no idea what New York style, Chicago Style or Tavern style are, they are all good.
Just don't call it a pie, it's pizza

baked potato chunks

Oh man, we once had pizza at a place called The Pizza Joint in Augusta, GA several years ago. They had some unbelievable pizza choices, one of which was a loaded baked potato pizza.

I still think about that pizza, it was sooooo good!

Never heard this type of pizza being called this but then in the UK we probably call it something different, not entirely sure what.

I've eaten this type before and would happily eat it again, although it's probably not my go to choice when offered an entire pizza menu. I usually go for the thicker/standard type bases or stuffed crust - the ones less good for you 😂
