Have you ever bought a birthday cake for yourself, when it wasn’t your birthday, just because you had a craving for birthday cake?

Back story to this poll…At work yesterday I said I had a craving for birthday cake and my boss says that I should treat myself and buy a small one. I said no way, it’s not my birthday (which he knows that) and he says to me - So, I do it all the time. I asked him if he asked the bakery to write HBD on the top too
This is what led me to this poll - curiosity on how many other people do this.

I like a baked good for my BD, but it doesn’t need to be cake. Brownies, pie, Danish, muffins, zucchini bread, etc. are actually preferred.

I have never bought a store bought cake, for a birthday or otherwise. My mom used to make our birthday cakes (still makes mine, in fact) and I make them for my family.

However, I do sometimes make cakes "just because." I enjoy baking and if I see an interesting recipe, I'll try it. (Last weekend, I made a chocolate chiffon cake with a chocolate whipped cream filling. My daughter said "Oh! I want this for my birthday next year!" If I make it for her birthday, then that would be "birthday cake" but last weekend's cake was just a cake.

What makes a cake a 'birthday cake" if it's not anybody's birthday?

When it’s not my birthday? Um, no. I serve cake, both store-bought and homemade fairly regularly but not a decorated birthday cake. That idea is weird to me, actually.

I only get a birthday cake for me on my birthday. Freeze the leftovers and slowly eat it over the next few months.
Lots of birthday cakes in the family (one coming on Saturday), so never a lack of cake

Cake yes, but not specifically a birthday cake. Even the cakes I get for my birthday are not birthday specific (Boston cream pie, chocolate Guinness cake, etc).

It never occurred to me to just buy a birthday cake.... I'll randomly make a Duncan Hines/Betty Crocker cake with frosting if the mood strikes, or brownies. I tend to make muffins or scones at least once a week.

You know, I think I'd love a random Duncan Hines yellow cake with chocolate frosting this week. It was my birthday recently and I didn't even think about asking for a cake... I can fix that! Off to raid the pantry!

No. Usually only purchase a cake or pie for us to have at home for a birthday, anniversary, or certain holidays.

No, I'm not so much a cake person. Besides cheesecake, that is!

Basically, I'm not an icing person. I don't like it, and a lot of what goes into many icings I can't even have, so it's a two-punch attack on cakes and cupcakes for me.

Now, fruit pie? Cobbler? Crumble? Crisp? Sign me right up. I love desserts based around fruits!
