I will admit….i do enjoy a good chili cheese dog, but only in the privacy of my own home - they’re messy. I have these for dinner 3-4 times a year (we just had them last week, which is what inspired this poll). They’re super easy to prepare for dinner and my family enjoys them. What I’m wondering today is how many of you enjoy chili cheese dogs. So tell us today…..

What’s your opinion of chili cheese dogs?
Do you like them with or without onions?
(multiple choice)

For Me……As I mentioned above I really enjoy a good chili cheese dog, so I voted that I like them. As much as I like onions, I prefer no onions on my chili cheese dogs :sad2:.

The only thing I don't love about a good chili cheese dog with onions is the bun. It HAS to be a decent roll or things fall apart, very quickly, and get very messy!! 🌭🧅

Love them - I don’t eat them very often but I do have them definitely once a year and it’s usually around Halloween!! 🎃
It’s more of a fall thing for me so if I’m gonna have them I have them in the fall because if I’m having hotdog in the summer they’re barbecued
If I have hotdog any other time then their chili cheese hotdog and that’s a fall thing and if I’m having a chili cheese hotdog you know I’m putting cheddar cheese all over it!!! And I will only eat those at home because you’re right they’re messy!! But so delicious!!! 😋

I suspect I’ll go to my grave never having tasted one 🤷🏽‍♀️
Given your culinary skills and wonderful menu choices, I suspect you could schuss it up, @NYCgrrl style, and come up with something fabulous!! I am always intrigued by your meals and so, so jealous of all the ingredients and shopping choices that are available to you, given where you live!

I like them, but don't eat them very often. My stomach doesn't need that kind of pounding regularly!

I like them very seldom. I am a purist and like a hot dog alone and chili alone.....and the chili must be the one I make. And I never eat buns

I love homemade ones. I make my own chili sauce (which is the same recipe as my sloppy Joe). I wasn’t sure how to vote on the onion issue because my sauce has a lot of cooked onion in it, but I don’t put raw onion on a chili cheese dog. When I make sloppy joes, I make a big batch and then put enough for a couple chili dogs in a baggie and freeze it. That way I always have bags of sauce on hand to make chili cheese dogs when I want to.

I don’t like to buy chili cheese dogs at restaurants though. I am picky about the spices that go in my chili sauce and I haven’t found one at a restaurant that I like. If I get a hot dog out, I usually just get a cheese dog. I still remember a hot dog I had as a tween that was dipped in a Swiss cheese fondue before going in the bun. It was sooooooo good!

I have never had one. The last time I had a hot dog when I was 6 or 7 so I don’t see me ever trying one.

Meh. I know I've had one, but can't remember where/when. I don't think I've made them at home.

I honestly have to say that I don't think I've ever had one. Many hot dogs over many years here for this Chicago guy but I don't think any chili dogs. I like chili, and chili with cheese, just don't think with a dog yet. My usual is a double dog, maybe with onions and sometimes sport peppers. Pretty plain actually. And for sure, no ketchup. Next visit to Portillo's maybe I'll give their chili dog a try.

I think I've only had one once and it was fine. No beans in the chili and no added onions.

I've never tried one -- it doesn't sound appealing to me. Glad others enjoy them.

@slo your thread title says 6/24 instead of 7/24

I think I would follow the path @Meriweather laid out 👍🏾.

Thank you for letting me know.
I’ve been making mistakes like this often lately. I’ll blame it on the summer heat - LOL!
Thanks again 🙂

I actually prefer a Chicago style dog with the bright green relish and sport peppers, etc. They are so good!
