It‘s Groundhog Day today, which means us cold weather months people REALLY want the groundhog to not see its shadow. We do not want 6 more weeks of winter

Have any of you had a groundhog in your yard?
If yes…when was the last time you saw one?

For Me…..Yes, but only one time in 18 years in this house - it was April 2021.
We live next to a forest, so we have all sorts of critters.
This groundhog was living under our shed - he/she was pretty big.

Below picture was our resident groundhog on the front porch (our ring camera picked it up). This was 15 minutes before DD19 (17 at the time) would be coming home from school. This would have FREAKED her out if she would have seen this as she was walking up to the front door. (Don’t mind the cooler - we were preparing to go to an upcoming weekend softball tournament).

I've seen possums, skunks, raccoons, foxes, coyotes, chipmunks, rabbits, squirrels and mice, but not groundhogs. I am surprised at how many critters we have considering we live in the Chicago suburbs surrounded by lots of houses.

I've definitely seen them. Not sure when the last time was, but the best was several years ago when one had five babies under our shed. They were super-cute!

We usually see them over near our barn in the summer. Never have seen one February 2 but around here it's winter for quite awhile!!!

We gave at least 3 - all the size of a Buick - they are HUGE - not happy the darn thing saw his shadow !!!

Like @Wood Nymph above, many different wildlife here in suburban Chicago, but no groundhogs that I can recall in the over 50 years living here.

Bummer on that shadow.

I THINK I saw one in my yard about 10 years ago. I was sitting in an Adirondack chair in my back yard reading when some critter ran right past my feet. Startled the heck out of me.

I know it wasn’t an opossum; it was much bigger. It ran into the neighbor’s yard behind mine.

I haven't seen one in my yard, but there have been some years when I see them all over the place in my area. Other years I don't seem to see them at all.

We see them all the time. We call them woodchucks though.

No groundhogs here; they aren’t native to this area. I’ve never seen one live, nor a raccoon or possum. But if you want to talk about gophers, squirrels, chipmunks, skunks and even badgers...

My next door neighbor has one who lives under her shed, we have rabbits under ours (we have a terrier who’s gotten a few baby bunnies and chipmunks).
