ATTENTION….NO POLL TOMORROW
I’m having foot surgery tomorrow and I’m really hoping that I need to be at the hospital early tomorrow morning. I’ll find out sometime today when I need to be there, which always leads me to ask…..why can’t we know sooner? I’m having my surgery at a Chicago hospital, so it’s not around the corner, which means we’ll be leaving pretty early tomorrow morning. Please keep me in your prayers for a successful surgery. I’ve had pain in my right foot since Sept 2024 and I set my surgery date this past July, so I’ve been waiting a long time. This surgery has a 70% success rate and I hope and pray that I’m in that 70%. If I am, it’ll be amazing to have that pain gone. Then I can focus next on having surgery on my left shoulder and then after that having my knees replaced. One thing at a time.

Since feet are on my mind….I think it’s safe to say that we all wear socks - some of us more than others. There’s no great science to putting on socks - you just do it. What I’m curious about is what foot do you put a sock on first. I’d be willing to bet that we don’t waver from what foot we put a sock on first. It’s such a habit that it would feel weird if we changed it. Lets find out if I’m right about that…….

Left foot or Right foot - which foot gets a sock on it first?
Do you change this or is it the same every day?
(multiple choice)

*No “other” today, because I’m feeling really confident that we all wear socks and we all put them on one foot at a time.

For Me……I always put my right sock on first 100% of the time. This never changes. I’d have to really think about putting on my left sock on first, but since I don’t want to do that, I don’t have to think about it - LOL!

Left everything’s always left first which makes no sense to me because I’m right handed but I always do my first left foot the sock left leg for the jeans it’s always left first

I wishing you the best of luck and I will have you in my prayers tomorrow good luck SLO ❤️ I’m betting on the 70% for you !!! Knowing that you’re an overachiever I’m sure you’re gonna hit the 85%!!

Depends on how I'm sitting but all else being equal it is left first.

Best wishes for your surgery, slo.....and a speedy recovery

Left first, at least the last couple of years. Never changes. That leg is easier to lift and put a sock on. I rarely wear socks though.

How about an option for "No Idea"

I really never paid attention to it and have no real idea which foot I put on first.

I went with "The foot order for socks changes for me" as I guess that is closest

I have no clue. Pretty sure I don’t have a pattern, unless it’s totally unconscious. I do know that put my socks on standing up though, not sitting down, as somebody upthread mentioned.

All the best with your procedure today @slo and wishing you a very successful outcome. :flower3:

I know it is the right onebecause I usually stand to my socks on and my left side is weaker with balance and I know it. I also put my right shoe on first too.

Speedy recovery after your surgery SLO.

I always put my right sock on first. I don't know why. ;)

Good luck with your surgery. I hope it is successful.

I think generally the left, though I am right footed.

Will there be any correlation between someone's handiness and the first sock put on or no correlation?

Left then right. Like Nancy above, left is easier to lift, it's the one with my 11 year old knee. The other one my right, is over 80 years old.

Best wishes, Sandy. You'll do great, be dancing up a storm very soon.

@tony67, good to see you again, haven't seen you in awhile.

I thought the same exact thing..... 🤷‍♂️

Always right. Every now and then, I notice my consistency with this and then completely forget about it. I was literally thinking about this yesterday as I was putting on a challenging pair of boots...since I follow the same pattern with footwear.

Best wishes with your surgery @slo . Speedy recovery!!!

I've never paid attention, so I suppose I put either one on first.

This poll reminds me of an episode of All in the Family when Archie is criticizing Meathead because he puts on a sock and then his shoe and then his other sock and shoe. Meathead's thinking is that if there is an emergency, he can hop out on his shod foot. Archie said that by putting on both socks, both feet would be protected. I don't know why I remember that episode. Some things just stick with you. It was funny how they were arguing about it.

Have a quick and easy recovery!

Prayers for you for a successful surgery, @slo !

Right sock goes on first. I am not sure if it ever changes!

Wishing you a successful surgery and a rapid recovery! :grouphug:

The sock thing varies with me. It’s more often the left foot first but not always, maybe a 60/40 split.

Same with my shoes, left first then right. Superstition I picked up back in my hockey playing days when I always put my left sock, left shin guard, hockey sock and skate on first.

Good luck @slo with the surgery. Hope you're back up and moving pain free!!

I genuinely have no idea which foot I do first but I'll be paying attention now after this 😂

Hope your surgery goes well @slo and you have a speedy recovery!
