For Me……Butter only
I haven’t bought margarine in over 10 years.

I never buy margarine. Originally it was sold as a healthier/less expensive alternative to butter. However, then it was recognized that trans fats in margarine are more of a health concern then the cholesterol in butter. Not sure if the formula for margarine has changed over the years. For baking, margarine and butter behave differently, so I avoid recipes that make it sound like you can use them interchangeably and still get the same results.

Butter only. Unsalted butter sticks for baking/cooking. Spreadable butter in a tub for spreading on toast, etc.

Butter for me. But when baking or making something that my youngest daughter is going to eat it is earth balance margarine because it is vegan.

I grew up margarine only never tasted butter until I was adult
I’m getting into these farm butters now and love them so I’m moving into butter only camp these days !!

Both---sort of. I assume by margarine you just mean a non-butter, but butter-like spread. In our home we have both actual butter, butter mixed with a bit of oil for easier spreading, and also a vegan "buttery" spread, because in our household we have a mix of different eating choices---vegan, vegetarian, and one omnivore who theoretically could eat anything, but is so fussy they eat less than anyone else in reality. ;)

Butter only. We used margarine exclusively when my uncle was alive, because he did the cooking and shopping so it was up to him. When I took over I switched to butter. My aunt insists it must be Breakstone's.

I use “spread” more than butter. I don’t buy what is labeled “margarine.” Not much is labeled as such these days.

I remember my grandmother buying some type of gross margarine that was white. It came with a yellow color capsule that you were supposed to break open and add to the white junk and mix with your fingers to make it appear palatable.

Oh, and I’ve never purchased “fancy” butter. Standard Keller’s/Breakstone/Hotel Bar is good enough for me.

I even buy store brand and, gasp, Walmart.

I use Country Crock on toast and sandwiches and Imperial in my cooking. I love butter but don't buy it very often.

Yes, transfats were banned about 3 years. I think most margarine makers took them out voluntarily before that. So yes, margarine is now healthier than butter.

We use margarine for toast, and on vegetables, unsalted butter for baking.

I saw a study that many baby boomers didn't like the taste of butter, because they all grew up with margarine.
