I'm having pizza for dinner tonight.

Well I was on page 7, rolling along, liking posts & all, before I realized this thread was from last year. 🤦🏻‍♀️ So if you’re wondering why I just liked something you posted last year, now you know. 😂

Anyway, I’m not Irish or Catholic, but our city had a lot of both. I was constantly hearing I had to celebrate St Patrick’s Day & being asked why I wasn’t wearing green etc. as I grew up. It’s a lifetime later but all the hoopla surrounding St Patrick’s Day still annoys me. And around here it just seems like a reason to party hard.

I never had corned beef & cabbage growing up. My FIL was from Boston so I first had NE boiled dinner when I started dating my DH. I made it for the first time about 10 years ago & liked it more as time went on. This year for the first time I made it in the oven & sautéed the cabbage with carrots. My DH & I both thought it was so much better this way. I don’t make it for St Patrick’s Day (see above, lol). This time of year all the stores have great sales on corned beef, so this is when I make it. The prices were really good so I picked up extras & have 3 in the freezer for future meals.

I voted okay in the poll, but we're still having it tonight for dinner at DH's request. I hope I like it better this time.

Good Luck with that it’s never worked for me - having family from the East and having to eat it - I just don’t care for boiled meals - may be because I grew up in Midwest 🤷‍♀️ just not for me

I put everything, but the cabbage in a Dutch oven & baked it. DH is frying the cabbage with some bacon bits. I'll let you know how it goes.

ETA: It was surprisingly good. I hope I can duplicate it next year, but that's not guaranteed. I'm an "little bit of this & little bit of that" kind of cook, so my meals never taste the same twice. :o

Ooh fried cabbage I can say i have not tried that - but I have done greens like that and they are delicious - just not sure if I could convince my taste buds on cabbage 🤣🤣🤣
So glad you enjoyed your meal !!!

Love that idea! I sauteed the cabbage, which DH liked better than boiling, but I'm going to have to try the bacon!

Chicago St. Patrick's view from my office earlier this week:

(And the kids once again had Lucky Charms cereal for breakfast - the only time I ever buy Lucky Charms cereal is for St. Patrick’s Day… even though I KNOW it’s not Irish! ;-) )
If it makes you feel less guilty, I used to let mine have Lucky Charms over ice cream for breakfast on St. Patrick's Day. ☘️

I have had exactly ONE box of Lucky Charms in my life. When I was six, my brother got to go away to camp but I was too young. To make up for not being able to go, my parents let me get a box of Lucky Charms (we weren't usually allowed such sugary cereals).

To this day, my bother and I both feel that we got the short-end of the stick on the deal.

I was in Kenya for for St. Patrick's Day this year. As far as I could see (admittedly, only the hotel and office), nothing was done to celebrate.

An awesome place to get to go to !! I hope to get to travel there before I leave this Earth !!
