Voted "Other." I'm not at all enamored with bodies of water--pool, lake, ocean, river, pond, just not a big deal to me. On a cruise I might enjoy looking at the ocean for a minute or two, but that's it. I'm like Clark Griswold at the Grand Canyon, "There it is kids!"

Have to go with lakes as long as it's a large one. I hate that salt/sand/sticky feeling after swimming in the ocean. It doesn't help that I got a bad sunburn when I was a teen at an ocean beach.

Baby powder takes it right off... 😉

I guess I'm choosing Ocean, but they can both make for great views. Oceans usually have that vast horizon.

Here's Santorini, a place I'm dying to see go. It would blow my gourd!

Here's a gourd-blowing photo:

If I have to pick, 100% lake. As a kid, we used to vacation at a number of the many lakes in southern Wisconsin. Fished, swam, boated. Living in Chicago my whole life, Lake Michigan is always available. We'd go to the Lake beaches there a few times a year.

As an adult, little or no interest. We do go to a lake in Wisconsin now, annually in July, for a large, multi-family reunion. Over 40 years now. My kids enjoy the pools, grandkids enjoy the pools and the lake.

No interest in the oceans.

I'm not a beach person or lay by the pool person. The water is there for me to swim in.

I've done open water swim races in both the ocean, lakes, and a river. I'll swim in any of them as long as it's safe.

I hope to see Champ one day in Lake Champlain. The only lake I will never go to is "Crystal Lake"....I hear it has a "Jason" problem. :rolleyes1

We have some ocean area we love to travel to, but this summer, we have spent most of our free time at our new lake house, so that gets my vote for the most part. Technically, we're on a bay, but it connects to Lake Erie as well.

Edited to add: Our summer view...

To swim in . . . neither. Too much pollution and potential wildlife encounters for me to feel comfortable swimming in it. For swimming, give me a clean pool instead.

To be near or look at, I am probably 50-50. I like being near water features like rivers, streams, lakes, and oceans. I find them very calming.

I voted Other-I don't like swimming in natural water, especially if I can't see the bottom. My Dad's sister lived on a bay, and whenever we'd go to visit them in the Summer I was made to go in the bay with my cousins. Of course, they grew up with it so they were walking all around in the water, but my sister and I were always terrified.

Also, spending all of my childhood Summers in Wildwood, us kids were made to go to the beach most days to get out of the grown-ups' hair for a while. I disliked the ocean because if you went out past your knees, again, you couldn't see the bottom. Wildwood has horseshoe crabs and I was petrified of stepping on one. I had to go in the water with my kid sister to make sure she was safe, though. I have an absolute dislike of going to the beach to this day. You want to go to the beach in the dark water and get sand in your crevices? Have a great time. I'll stay back at the hotel and sit by the nice, clear pool.

Not this trip. We're starting in Zurich, day trip to Lucerne, a few days in Lauterbrunnen, then finishing in Geneva. Flights worked out great out of Hartford on Aer Lingus.
Hmmm ...never really thought to check flights out of Hartford. I could make that work!

I'm an ocean girl and love to swim in the sea. I like sailing on big lakes and hiking around little lakes in the mountains and have occasionally swum or waded in them. I do not like dirty, muddy reservoir lakes.

I voted 75% lake 25% ocean. They really are two different experiences. I am more likely to swim, boat and fish in a lake. I am more likely to watch waves and listen to the sounds of the ocean. While I have been swimming and scuba diving and snorkeling in the ocean, lakes just seem to offer more recreational activities.
