Signal messaging app with free tier?

Has anyone used the Signal messaging app with the DCL free tier? It sounds like iMessage and WhatsApp are supported, but not SMS. WhatsApp has poor privacy protections at a technical and corporate level, I would strongly prefer to use Signal. Thanks.

We use Signal a lot for same reason, but it did not seem to work on the ship WiFi. What’sApp and iMessage are not officially supported either, but work. I guess somehow they work differently from Signal in how they send info.
