I buy the imitation syrup in whatever's on sale. I'm not brand loyal. We go through vast amounts of the stuff because my two-year-old cousin eats the little mini chocolate chip pancakes with enough syrup to douse every pancake in America.

When I went to Vermont years ago we stopped at The Vermont Country Store and I spent a lot of money on one of those little log cabins filled with real maple syrup. We didn't like it as much.

Me either. I like Aunt Jemima, or Pearl Milling Company as it is now known. Often store brand is just as good. On those few occasions when I do feel compelled to buy real maple syrup I always end up disappointed that the “maple” flavour isn’t as strong as the fake stuff.
Same

I think my taste buds for real maple syrup were ruined when I was a kid, raised on Log Cabin fake syrup (I still remember, as a kid, staring at the log cabin on the label, thinking how neat it would be to be in that log cabin), basically corn syrup, water, flavoring and color. Real maple syrup is not sweet enough for me, tasting somewhat bitter, which I think is the way it is supposed to taste. Today, usually Log Cabin or Aunt Jemima syrup.

I was raised on Log Cabin or Vermont Maid, but in my house it's 100% pure, real maple syrup- none of the flavored/colored corn syrup for us. We don't used it a lot as-is, but I use it frequently in cooking, for marinades, glazes, basting, etc. We also have minibottles of syrups from a friend who is experimenting with "make your own." I think we have birch syrup, strawberry syrup, and mint syrup in the cabinet.

We prefer the real maple syrup. Fortunately, the imitation products can't have clever/deceptive names to fool you into thinking they are 'maple' syrup. Most are called pancake syrup or something similar. The imitation products are mostly sugar water & coloring. Real maple syrup comes in various grades (i.e. light amber, medium amber, etc.) and there is quite a bit of difference in flavor/taste between the various grades. Which of the real products you prefer is mostly a matter of personal preference.

I found real maple syrup too thin and watery, and lacking in the good fake flavor to which my tastebuds had become accustomed.

I prefer Mrs. Butterworth’s mainly because of the bottle shape, but any standard mass market brand is fine. The Walmart near me used to sell a brand cheaper than Great Value that I found surprisingly good, but they discontinued it a few years ago.

Maybe once every other year I’ll buy blueberry/boysenberry/strawberry syrup.

we just get whatever is bogo, or similar, like Log Cabin, etc. I dont' use syrup much at all, but kids and DH like it on pancakes, waffles, etc.
My dad used to enjoy this dark cane syrup made my Steens. whew, that stuff was strong! but good too.

I live in Vermont, so I use pure Vermont maple syrup. And I don't buy it. We loan our woodsplitter to some friends who sugar, so we get free, delicious, dark syrup every year. Yes, I know the light, fancy syrup is more desirable, but we love the darker stuff, especially for cooking.

I'm not sure whether you're asking about actual REAL maple syrup. Or just what most of us call "maple" syrup.

I don't find that much difference between the two, however. True maple syrup seems to be heartier in flavor, but I like either.

I don't like sugar-free anything.

I only buy real Vermont maple syrup now, b/c I have cut way back on sugar (both real and artificial) with my cancer, so if I'm going to add a sweet component, I want the real thing as is with the vitamins and minerals it brings naturally.

I did hate real maple syrup as a kid, but I have grown to love it as an adult...roasted peaches drizzled with maple syrup and dusted with powdered ginger are wonderful...

I think people are using the term interchangeably to mean syrup (Mrs. Buttersworth, Log Cabin, etc.) and maple syrup. They are not the same thing at all.

We only buy 100% maple syrup and it must be refrigerated after opening. I don't believe you can buy the real deal in lite or sugar-free, lol.

Some posters said they find real maple syrup too runny but once you've only had real syrup, the others seem too thick and gummy. Ewww.

Only real, but we only have it about half the time. When I run out, I don't immediately buy new. If we're out, for pancakes I use either butter/powdered sugar/lemon or Lyle's Golden Syrup and pecans.
