I don’t need one. I have a Breville Smart Oven that toasts at least eight slices of bread at once. There’s no point in another appliance taking up space in the kitchen.

Nah.

We just got a nifty toaster oven with a slot on top. When you set it to 'toast,' it toasts bread, bagels, etc. like a regular toaster. When you set it to 'oven,' the bottom of the toaster section goes up and it becomes a regular toaster oven. We like it. I don't mind pressing buttons and turning knobs.

I finally broke down and bought a toaster after two years because my daughter was coming to visit for a week and she normally eats toast for breakfast. Not once did she use the toaster. LOL Glad I bought an inexpensive one.

I've been complaining about my current toaster ever since it replaced my MICKEY toaster. That was such a fun novelty.
Was it this one??? We have this and it plays the Mickey Mouseclub March when the toast pops up:earsboy:

This is ridiculous in the most comical way! 🤣

I can see a fancy hotel having a touch screen toaster at their expensive breakfast. I would definitely want to try all of the different settings.

Years ago DW insisted on getting a a fancy Dualit toaster. I thought it was way too expensive but had to admit it would match our décor far better. I don't know if it is worth "every" penny, but I am now firmly in the camp of "you get what you pay for". Sure, I could have bought a dozen cheap toasters for less, but the thing is beyond reliable and still looks great. I cannot say that about any toaster we had before.
To the question though, I have no need for the digital screen and whatever features it may have, but would not fault someone for getting one if they really want it.

I saw fancy touch screen coffee machines at a couple hotel breakfasts on my last trip, but they all had dumb toasters. 😄

I rarely toast anything so just make use of a toaster oven on those rare occasions.

I eat toast maybe once every 5 years or so so that would be wasted on me. We have a toaster oven that I like and use for smaller things that don’t require the big oven, but my family insisted on a regular toaster as they didn’t like how the toaster oven toasted. I have very limited counter space so I wasn’t excited about that but we do now have a very low tech toaster.

No desire to own ANY touchscreen appliance. Way more expensive and likely the cost to repair if/when something goes wrong will exceed the price of the item (if you can even find a place to repair it). Toasting isn't complicated. You adjust the setting to get the desired level of browning. A pricey toaster isn't going to make the result any better.

I can imagine with something like a washer/dryer or refrig that has touchscreen and wifi capabilities needing both the typical repair person as well as some IT specialist to solve anything that goes wrong. Typical repair person will say they don't work on IT issues and then they just point fingers at each other reagarding what needs to be done to fix it.
Ah yes...good times. We just had a customer call about a week ago with a wall oven that you cannot start manually if the wifi features are enabled. And (wait for it) you cannot disable the wifi features if your wifi is out. Demanded that our Warranty department do something. Another quite common one is the digital clocks on appliances that are wifi enabled will lose time when the wifi is down, which apparently happens far more often (for very short periods of time) than most of us realize. We've got tons of people complaining that their stove or fridge or microwave consistently loses 2 or 3 minutes a month. :(

My daughter's house came with a Wi Fi enabled microwave. No idea what you would use THAT for.

HA! Funny you should mention toasters, my 20 year old cheap Black & Decker croaked a few weeks ago.

So, I went to find a suitable replacement. We have a Cuisinart coffee maker and I really like it so I thought I would go with a toaster that has similar style. It was not expensive at all with coupons. What a hunk of junk! Would not toast evenly. Bottom burnt and top barely toasted. (After chatting with Cuisinart and Kohl's a refund was issued. I was happily surprised!)

So I went back to Black & Decker. Got it yesterday and haven't used it yet. Fingers crossed it will be as good as the old one.

And with that totally irrelevant to the poll story, I will say no chance I will buy a $350 toaster. That thing better serve up eggs and bacon with it for that price!

I am hoping to redo my kitchen in the next year or two. I am going to consider ⬆️ a Public Service Announcement and keep it in mind when I am choosing my appliances. Good grief who has time for all that nonsense driving them crazy

Nope - just no. Adding digital features and (God forbid) wifi capabilities to appliances has just opened the door for more things to go wrong. I manange a new home warranty department and we’ve got many customers now with high-tech appliances that have much poorer performance and shorter life-spans than ever before. At much, much higher prices. Three hundred forty nine bucks for a two-slice toaster!??! Not in this lifetime. :sad2: If anybody was silly enough to give me this as a gift, I’d literally ask them to return it and give the money to charity.

First thing I thought: $350 for a TOASTER? You gotta be kidding me!!
We have a new fridge that we got a killer deal on and I LOVE it, but it's "smart." What the heck is the reason for that? I think "smart" appliances are silly, but I guess I can see wanting to preheat the oven on the way home from work, or checking to make sure the stove burners or oven are off... but what am I going to check/turn on or off on a fridge?? To me it's a total waste of $$$ (to say nothing of the fact that I don't have a cell phone...)
