This Memorial Day my DH are having T-bone steaks on the grill and I’m pretty excited about it. I normally don’t buy T-bones, but they were on super sale and couldn’t pass it up. What I’m wondering today, is how you like your steak cooked. Give us well done answer today…….

How do you like your steak cooked?
If a restaurant does it wrong, will you return it and ask for another one?
(multiple choice)

For Me…..I’m a medium girl and yes, I will return it if it’s cooked wrong. In fact, just a few weeks ago, when we took the family out for my DD21’s college graduation I ordered a filet medium and it came to me medium well. I definitely returned it, because when I’m paying $45 for a steak, I do expect it prepared correctly, my FIL’s filet had to be returned too. The server was great and made sure our new filets were prepared correctly, which I appreciated very much. That’s the first time in a very very long time that I had to return a steak.

I didn’t eat red meat for a long time and returned it to my diet a few years ago. I like a medium filet cut steak. Trader Joe’s has a great two pack of filet mignon that my hubby enjoy a couple of times a month. Might go get some today to grill! 🥩🇺🇸

“Bleu et noir” AKA “black and blue” is my fav but only at home and certain restaurants. Normally, in the states, I just opt for medium rare since that made the man happy and I rarely can eat an entire Porterhouse ( my favorite cut).

eta: Yep (sorry about that in a sorry, not sorry way), I will certainly return a steak not cooked properly.

I order steak medium and burgers medium-well. I'm generally not one to return things, though. - I'll still eat it if it's a little overcooked. If it's under-cooked, I'll eat around the rare bit and just have the parts I'm comfortable with.

Always order medium well at a restaurant and it still tends to come out less cooked. If still bloody inside, I send it back. I think restaurants prefer to undercook a steak since they can always cook it longer. If you send back a steak for being over-done, I assume they have to start over with another steak since clearly you can't 'uncook' it.............LOL. TV cooking shows always imply rare tastes best but to me it makes it chewy and somewhat like eating bubble gum. When making steak at home on the BBQ for company, it is obviously a matter of personal preference regarding level of doneness. The easiest way to cook for a variety of tastes is to put the steaks on at different times or even use the upper grill so those cook more slowly. A meat thermometer is also very helpful for detemining when a steak is done to the desired level. I have never had luck pressing on the surface like is sometimes recommended.

I have noticed most restaurants have a note on their menu they won't cook burgers anything less than medium well due to food safety concerns. With ground meat, you have to be sure the interior is thoroughly cooked to the proper temp in order to be safe to eat.

I like mine medium rare, and as expensive as steaks are these days I will definitely send it back if it’s overcooked.

Rare as rare can be I literally tell them to flick a lighter underneath it for a couple of seconds and then slap it on the plate I could eat the thing raw And they look at me and laugh and I said no I’m serious I want that steak still bloody When I say where I want my steak rare And if that thing comes out anything other than extremely rare I will send it back and if I have to send it back more than twice I’m asking to speak to the chef Because seriously steak is not cheap so they should know how to cook it if they’re gonna ask you how you want your steak most of the time when I go out to eat steak I don’t have a problem with this
If I’m eating steak at home and somebody else is cooking it and they end up over cooking my steak I won’t eat it cause it’s not like at home you can send it back and get another one🤣🤣🤣

Enjoy your T-Bones today SLO they sound delicious!!!

I’ve never seen that on a menu here, and will not eat a grey burger, needs to be at least pink. And hamburgers here are $15+ at pretty much every restaurant.

When I go out to eat, I always have mine rare, or at the most medium rare depending on the cut of meat. When I'm doing steak at home, it tends to be closed to blue. I'd never send a steak back if they'd undercooked it, if that's even possible when you ask for it rare, but I'd certainly send it back if it was overcooked.

I prefer a medium to medium-well steak. I don’t mind a little pink, but I do want it at least warm through and I don’t want a lot of red juices on my plate. I have never sent a steak back, but would if it was too undercooked for me.

I don't eat steak that much. I love it, but I'll only eat it at a good steakhouse so I don't get it often. I prefer it medium rare. Nice and charred on the outside, and a bit pink in the middle.

It depends on the cut of steak. Usually I go with medium and it comes out med. rare which is perfect. If it still moos it goes back or I just box it and recook it at home. My husband orders shoe leather.

Funny story though. My grandson took culinary arts in High School so one year for Christmas he got a grill. His father always gets a gift of steaks from one of the vendors he deals with at his job. This year it was a box of Filet Mignon. My grandson fired up the grill and everyone said WELL DONE. My grandson turned off his grill, threw the steaks back in the box and stomped away. He said he was not about to destroy the best cut of meat that should NEVER be cooked above med. rare and then covered in ketchup, which my daughter intended to do. He said I have my principles and Chef would never forgive me. He does grill a good steak though.

I like my steak medium/medium-rare (dark pink). I don't mind if it's a little over or a little under. I'll send it back if it's really rare. But if it's more well done, I'll suck it up. I don't want to wait for a new steak to be cooked while everyone else is eating. I'll let the waiter know so maybe the kitchen pays better attention for other customers. But this doesn't really happen much at all - steak places tend to under cook steak because it's an easier fix.

Rare to medium rare. I don't remember returning a steak in a restaurant, but if it's medium well/well, I would definitely send it back.

I also made a T-bone on the grill yesterday because a supermarket was having a great 3 day sale. $8.99 lb instead of $16.99.
It was fairly large so DH and I split it.

We both prefer medium rare. I never had to send back a steak at a restaurant. DH did once, because it was so rare it was still mooing.
