Our Cub Scouts Den Leader is stepping down after 5 years as the boys are Webelos II crossing over to Boy Scouts and a week later she is moving to Washington DC. One of our moms suggested an add a bead bracelet as a going away gift from the boys (We're also giving her a personalized photobook of all the stuff they've done). I was able to find a sterling silver fleur de lis (looks like the symbol for Boy Scouts) bead on e-bay which they said would fit any of these types of bracelets but wanted to get some opinions on which bracelet is best as far as clasp, price, selection of beads and availability across the country. We're also going to get two glass beads to go on either side of the silver bead a blue one and a yellow one (Cub Scouts colors). I know nothing about them and the mother was suggesting getting a knock off, but I was thinking that with 8 kids in the den we might be able to afford a name brand. Any opinions/Advice?

I also posted this on the community board but since I'm on here the most thought I'd try my luck here as well and see if I can get a little more budget perspective....

I have the Chamilia bracelet with several Disney beads and I love it. It seems to be durable and has held up well so far with daily use. I have had mine for over 2 years now. :goodvibes Good luck with your choice!

I have a Chamilia too. I've had it about 2 1/2 years and it's held up nicely, even though I'm not nice to it! :) I have some of their beads, some Pandora ones, and a few sterling silver ones from Goody Beads, and you really can't tell the difference with the sterling ones. The glass ones are more obvious. Pandora is probably the best known name, but you can add any type of bead on most bracelets.

Sounds like a nice gift!

I have Pandora, but my next bracelet is going to be a Chamilia because they have so many more beads to choose from than pandora.

I have a Pandora bracelet which I love and received as a gift. BUT if I was buying one today for myself, I would pick the Chamilia. This is because the Pandora bracelets have the permanent areas for the clasps/anchors along the length of the bracelet while the Chamilia do not.

I would pick either of those, but she can always get knock off beads - most are interchangeable on the bracelets.

As for availability, I don't think it matters - beads are available everywhere - specialty stores, Pandora stores, jewelers, online.

I have had all 3. Troll beads are my favorite because I like their clasp system the best - it is 2 separate pieces (clasp and bracelet). They seem to be harder to find locally because not as many stores seem to carry them. I also think they have the most beautiful beads. I have a Chamilia bracelet simply so I can buy the Disney beads. My least favorite is Pandora. I don't like how their bracelets have the raised places - it is harder to get your beads on and off. I also think that the Pandora beads look "cheap". Pandora/Chamilia beads are interchangeable. You can also put Pandora/Chamilia beads on a Troll bracelet. Troll beads will not fit on Pandora or Chamilia bracelets. At one time, I had 12 full bracelets - 10 Troll and 1 each of Pandora and Chamilia. I have sold all but 3 bracelets on Ebay, but Troll is still my favorite!

I have a Chamilla bracelet that I love.

I decided to get a bracelet for my BestFriend and researched a lot. I liked the clasp that Pandora and Chamilla have. And in the end I bought her Chamilla too as it was cheaper (I never noticed the bumps another reason I would have bought Chamilla)

They often have sales buy X beads and get a bracelet free, or buy X beads and get a special bead free. I like their beads better but Chamilla and Pandora are interchangeable for bracelets.

Now Chamilla also has a bangle version that would look lovely with the three beads you mentioned. My next bracelet will be one of those.

I just found out that if you have a pandora bracelet w other beads on it, Pandora store will not honor your warranty. Also you really need to try other brand beads on your bracelet for fit. I like the stops on Pandora so I can keep the beads from getting off the end of the bracelet but I guess that depends on if you were yours full or not

Pandora is having a free bracelet promotion again in Sept, buy $100 of beads and get it free.

Not sure what you mean if you have other beads on your Pandora they will not honor their warranty. All beads are removable . If you are having a problem with the bracelet I suggest you take the beads off before you take it for repairs.

I have a Pandora bracelet and love it. I have 2 Chamilia beads, both Disney, and both with "gems" in them. The gems have fallen out of both of them within a month of wearing. I did bring them into the store where I got them and they gladly damaged them out and gave me new ones. They did say it happens quite often, the "gems" falling out. To just come back if it happens again. I did have a really hard time getting one of the Camilia beads to fit b/c the threading was different than my bracelet.

I had one of their clips my DH got me for Mother's Day and it fell off. :sad1: I was outside at field day with my class when I noticed it gone, so it could have been anywhere on a huge grassy field. The Pandora ones lock on much better than the Chamilia. I can't get that one replaced b/c it just fell off, which I am still sad about. I had it for a month and off it fell, just like the gems.

I am reluctant to buy anymore Chamilia b/c it seems to be somewhat poorly made, at least the 3 beads I have owned.

Wow! Can't believe this thread got resurrected.

We did end up with the Chamilia bracelet because went with non-name brand beads to get the Boy Scout Fleur de Lis and right colors/shades of a true blue and yellow - though they don't show that way in the photo. We felt that this was best because Chamilia won't void the warranty if you put non-chamilia beads on the bracelet.

From a different perspective: since these bracelets have been around for a while, are you sure that she a) doesn't already have one or b) even likes them?

Personally, they are not to my taste and would feel terribly if I received one for a gift, knowing how much they are and I would never wear it.

My bracelet is a brand called Zable and it has held up really well. I have Zable beads, a few Pandora, and at least one Chamillia. They all fit fine.
