My soon-to-be 7 year old would like a LEGO theme birthday party this year.

I came across some Lego cakes online, but have not found I really like (or is super easy!) to make yet. I know he does not want cupcakes this year.

We have one of those fill-your-own Lego cups from the Lego store in Disney. Hubby suggested filling it with lego blocks and the kids have to guess the # of blocks inside.

I did find these cool "lego favour boxes" pattern online (below) and can get "lego candy blocks" at the Bulk Barn. What else can I add to their favour boxes?

If I could find a bunch of Advs. of Clutch Powers DVD real cheap, I would be tempted to purchase them for each kid as well.

Has anyone thrown a lego party before? How did it work for you? What kind of things did you do? Any ideas for me? Please & thank you!!

Not sure how many legos you have but what about a Lego build comedy for a game?

Each child can have a number of legos and they have to build the tallest or longest structure in a certain amount of time without it falling over.

You may want to check the lego store online to see wha sale items (like the Lego figure keychains) they have on sale. Would be a cute gift bag item.

Also, the Lego store sells a mini figure ice tray. It onl makes 8 ice minifigs at a time but the freeze in about an hour and if you start a few days ahead you oul have a number of them for drinks.

A Lego party is fun! We did one when my son turned 6. I made a regular 9 by 13 cake and we put 6 cupcakes on the top to make a 2 by 3 brick. It was a pain to frost though! My friend's son had a Lego party for his 7th, and she was smarter than I was -- she made a half sheet cake and used those candy bricks to spell out his name on it.

My DS has a late spring birthday (as does his friend) so we had outdoor parties where the kids just played, so I don't have any great ideas for activities.

Favor boxes are easy too -- you mentioned the brick candy, and then there are Lego fruit snacks you can put in there too. Lego.com is having a half off sale at the moment, and you can get their favor pack (http://shop.lego.com/Product/?p=66373) with 8 mini sets for $10 right now. We also ordered a roll of stickers from Smilemakers (www.smilemakers.com/shop-by-product/stickers/character-stickers/LEGO.html and they have Racer ones too) and put a few of those in each bag.

I hope that helps!

Instead of having a favor bag at my son's Lego party I bought small Lego kits (cars, helicopter, dump truck) for about $5 and the kids built their kit as the activity and kept it as their favor. I did cupcakes only because I had broken my shoulder the week before my son's party and couldn't do as much as I had planned. I put the Lego candy on the cupcakes.

Also while I was in the Lego store purchasing a gift another mom was ahead of me buying the Lego man ice cube trays - she was going to melt crayons and pour the wax into the tray to make Lego shaped crayons! I thought that was a brilliant idea but way too much work for me with my shoulder at the time.

If you can find them, the little packs of the Series 3 minifigs can be got for as low as $1.99 in some stores (don't bother with Toys R Us, they have them up to 3.99 or something obscene.)

The first thing that came to mind was the Building stations at the Downtown Disney Lego store and how long kids can just sit and build. My DD has never owned a Lego but even she and her girl cousins sat for a good while. What about setting up an area for that? It might take too many legos unless you already own a lot.

I actually did this for our wayyyy scaled back party. It was a huge hit. However, just be forwarned that they break easily coming out...we had a lot of decapitated minifigs. :lmao: I also printed out Lego coloring pages on lego.com.

Wow, lots of great ideas, thank you!!

I have spent the past hour looking for an unique Lego invitation design we can make up. Found some good ones that I just need to figure out how to duplicate.

I wondered how this other mom made these! One of the links Mom2Ben provided showed a plateful of gummy legos. Thanks for the tip! I'm really wishing I was "with it" 3 or 4 days ago. I saw the wheel assortment set on sale at Lego but was not in "birthday planning" mode at the time and missed it.

You are in luck - I have lots of links:) My son - not so much. He wanted a Lego Party, but I ended up in the hospital with quadruple pneumonia and had to scale back the party.

I'm loving the links, thank you. Quadruple pneumonia? I hope you are much better now!

Ohh I like that idea with the candy bricks spelling out his name on the cake. Much simplier than trying to make make brick/block cakes. Thanks!

My husband found the Lego favour packs on sale at ToysrUs for $20 (I think) when they were listed at $30 (purchased 2). But $10?? Jeez... I'm tempted to dig through my receipts. If Lego is still offering the free shipping and I have the receipts, I may get them from Lego and return the ToysrUs ones..

And thanks for letting me know about the stickers!

(update - turns out the Lego favour packs were $25 here and we paid $18. Which is still a good price considering there is 4 creator airplanes & 4 creator 4x4 jeeps in the pack = $2.25 each!)

LOL - I like the idea of melting crayons for lego-shaped crayons. We have tons of broken bits & pieces odds & ends of crayons around here! Hmm... I never tried this before but I might if I get the lego man ice cube trays.

Yes, I was wondering if I could still find these. Only, we were paying $3 a piece here at Wal-Mart. If I come across them cheaper I'll grab them!

This is a great idea and something I'm trying to figure out how to set up. Currently we keep all lego in the living room. I *know* if I let the kids keep them in their rooms (or playroom), many pieces will go missing. However, I do not want lots of kids all playing at once with lego in the living room.

I think I'll have to temporarily move a lot of lego into the playroom for the day and make sure it gets cleaned up immediately that night. And I may need to hit our local Craigslist & Kijijii to pick up some loose lego cheap. After we re-assemble our existing jumbled up sets for decoration - I wonder just how many pieces we will have left for playing with.

Here's a thread from last year that I posted on - lots of ideas on the thread:

I made some printables for our party, so feel free to PM me your e-mail address if you want me to send a copy.

Great thread with good ideas, thanks!

I wish we had a Lego store around here (Ontario, Canada). Having a birthday party there would be awesome!

Oh my goodness. I just finished reading your thread and found a posting from me on it. :lmao: You know, I'm pretty sure I e-mailed you back then and you sent me those files. I'll double-check what I have on the computer and get back to you.

When I was at Borders last I saw Lego Party packs. I think it was about 6-8 small sets and some coupons for Legoland. I don't remember exactly what was in there, but it looked interesting. and if you have a Borders coupon, maybe it wouldn't be bad cost wise.

DS's 7th b-day was in August and we had his party outside at a local park. (Might be too cold this time of year; not sure when your son's b-day is). He loves legos, so we did a lego theme.

The decorations and tableware was easy; primary colored everything that we got from Dollar Tree.

For "favors" I bought a big box of basic legos from the Lego Store and split it up in clear plastic bags. I added silly straws, balloons, candy and a fee other things. To make the plain bags look "fancy" a curled bunches of red, blue, yellow, and green ribbon and tied those to the bags. It took a lot of time to curl all the ribbon, and staple it together, but they looked great. I spent $4.00 buying the four rolls of ribbon, and made about 20 bunches. My ribbons looked just as good as the ones you get premade for $1.00 each.

I made the invitations myself. I bought a 20 pack of primary colored cards and envelopes from Michaels. ($5.00). I used a 1" hole punch to cut out "dots" and glued them to the from of the card to make it look like a lego.
I printed all the party info inside.

Since it was at the park, the kids spent a lot of time just playing, but we did have a few games. We had a race to see who could build a lego tower the fastest. We filled a clear container with legos and had everyone guess how many were inside (fun for kids and adults). We had a relay/ egg-spoon race but used legos on the spoons instead of eggs.

My grandma made his cake to look like 4 legos stacked on top of each other. You could do something much simpler, just google lego cake ideas.

I think that's about it.
Let me know if you have any questions.
It was blast!

Two days ago we got a little Lego kit in the Christmas stuff at Target. It was a policeman and car. It was 50% off because it was a stocking stuffer, so it was only $1.99.

My son's birthday is in April. When he was younger (ages 1-5) we would celebrate his birthday late May. He knows his real birthday now though and insists on the correct date. ;) Too bad as it was nicer having outdoor parties.

I love your invitation idea. Thank you! I have been searching for lego wallpaper and clipart to design my own invitation, but that would be a heck of a lot easier! I can just print out minifigure clipart to cut & glue to the invitations this way.

Nice! I wish I could find great deals here for Lego & Disney products. It's hard! I'm in Canada.

I just cannot locate them. I'm sure you sent them before. Do you mind sending them again please? I'll send you a PM with my e-mail. Thanks!
