Slide Mounts 101

Today's class is slide mounts.

Supplies
slide mounts 2x2 inch square. They come as 2 pieces attached, for this class I have separated them

paper
trimmer
adhesive (preferably wet)
exacto knife

step one:
cut paper to 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches square

step 2:
attach paper to slide mount, centering slide mount in middle of paper. I use Scotch quick dry tacky adhesive.

Step 3:
when glue is dry, cut an X in the window of slide mount. Use a ruler as a guide. Also trim outside corners at an angle.

step 4:
fold over inside and outside edges and glue. Use small binder clips to hold closed until dry.

step 5:
trim excess paper from inside folds.

decorate!

thanks hon! I really need to get my own but I haven't seen any. I need to go to Joanns in Manchester to look for ribbon spools so I think I'll look at ACM, M's, and J's over there.

once they are glued and ready to decorate do you put the other piece back on? and how do you attach them to the page??

you can do 1 of 3 things, re-attach the back, leave it off or don't cut it to start, just fold it over in half. You really don't need the 2 pieces together.

and how do you attach them to the page??

I attach them using glue dots in each corner.

This is awesome! I am learning so much on these boards and through the swaps! Keep em coming - I never even heard of decorated slide mounts or exploding boxes until I started swapping....I was pretty self - taught.

I'm self taught too. I didn't have a crafty bone in my body until I started working at Michael's many moons ago.
My mom is pretty crafty though and does a lot with things on hand. She works at a before and after school program and they have limited funds so she gets pretty creative. So I think I get some of it from her.

I used to alter things a lot when I was little, I just didn't know it had a name.

Great job teach! Now I may have to alter a few of these. I've seen some cute ideas recently for using slide mounts to accent a picture, draw the eye to a certain detail.

i'm glad you are self taught, 'cause i am so NOT self taught. i am a visual learner. so these classes are right up my alley!
