Sleepless at Wilderness or Plan Shman 10/21 **PHOTOPASS Pics Flik!**

Congrats on the new living situation---I'm sure your DH will appreciate the much shorter commute. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate, but once things get settled I'm looking forward to reading more of your TR! :thumbsup2

Wow, that new living situation sounds like it's working out great! We'll be here when you get back to writing again. :)

For those of you that shielded your eyes from the spoilers...

We did KP missions in Mexico, France, and the UK. What you may not have read is that when you finish the missions, depending on the number of KP operatives in action in the different countries, you may or may not be asked if you would like to participate in another mission. If you answer yes, then you will be given a choice from available countries. We were given two choices and six choices.

We were ready for a bit of a break from the missions. We were in UK and high on the priority list was going to the Sportsman's shop that is located there. This is a great shop for the soccer (football) enthusiast. We had seen a great coaching book here two years ago. We didn't purchase it then, because, as I have stated before, I am a LIBRARY person. I prefer to borrow books. Then, when I am convinced that the book is purchase worthy, I'll probably look for it used first. It's a rare occasion when I would purchase a NEW book. Well. I couldn't find this particular book again. I didn't copy down the ISBN number and thus no amount of searching with all terms possible could bring this book into the light. It is an excellent manual for learning technique, and we were going to fork over the dough to buy it this time around.

We spent quite a bit of time in this store. Rugby is also featured here. Funny how people don't recognize the rugby ball and comment on what a weird football (American) this is. We ended up buying the book, a size 5 ball, and a skill ball, aka a juggling ball. We spent a bit of time conversing with the cashier who was from Liverpool. We talked about the different English football teams. Soccer in the US. The current tournament going on in South Africa. It was very interesting to talk to him. I understand what people say about talking to the CMs. It was really fun and informative. I asked him to take a pic of us.

Suddenly, the store felt overrun with patrons. Whereas there had been plenty of space, so much so that DS was kicking a ball around, doing some juggling off to the side, testing out the different balls to find the BEST one, all of a sudden, it was like an explosion of people. What's the deal?

Rain. Oh. Wait. RAAAAAAIN.

Typical southern storm rain. Thunder. Lightening. Big fat soak you in a heart beat drops.

DH and I looked at each other.

Being very familiar with these storms...we get the same kind in Texas, we know that they will often blow over in a matter of minutes. We decided to hang for a few minutes more to analyze the potential this shower had for staying power.

Now understand that I had brought a TON of rain ponchos with us. I have one emergency style poncho for each of us per day of our trip. Single use, less than a dollar each ponchos. So there are like 24 ponchos on this trip. It's just too bad that I didn't remember to pack them in our day packs for the park. They were stacked all nice and neat in the shelf area under the nightstand. Ugh. I was fairly frustrated. My men thought it was funny. I was glad for that. We are fairly easy going people.

We were at Sea World last summer. Couldn't swing the expense of WDW last year. We went to San Antonio for an overnight stay. We did two days at Sea World. One in the park. One in the adjacent water park.

So there we were in the middle of summer. Super hot outside. The kind of hot where you purposefully sit in the splash zone hoping to get drenched. In the afternoon, the clouds rolled in and the rain came. Pouring down rain. We happened to be eating in a sheltered location when it started. It didn't stop. Half an hour later, it was still going. The pathways at Sea World were flooding. Seriously. There were places were the water was ankle deep. NO ONE was walking around.

Well. Half an hour is our limit. We were done eating now. The shelter was crowded with people that would obviously melt away should they encounter any water from the sky. It was wrecking an otherwise lovely day. Time to go. I took off my shoes. DH and DS were good. Off we went. The rain came down. We were soaked within seconds. We had puddle fights. Splashing wars. You could say, when life gives you puddles, PLAY!

I was sad as I saw the unhappy faces that were crammed into any available shelter as we walked in the freedom of a virtually empty walkway having the time of our lives. Much laughter. Much fun. The car was fully stocked. There were beach towels and changes of clothes inside. We certainly wouldn't melt. Neither were we cold. Are you kidding? Sometimes, I think people end up more miserable trying to avoid being uncomfortable.

It was approaching the time for our Soarin' FP. Time to head on over to the Land. We disembarked the crowded shelter of the Sportsman shop and ventured into where few were going. The rain had lessened into a nice steady heavy sprinkle. You could see. The drops were no longer making you squint. We didn't dauddle, but we didn't run. We laughed and joked.

Our main concern was what would happen when we hit the air conditioning.

Not too much happened.

The funny thing about it all was that the rain was such that only the fronts of us got wet. Seriously. Our entire backsides were dry as a bone. Just the front was damp. This wasn't too bad. Dry back. Cool front. Somewhat refreshing. Did I mention that it was HOT?

We made our way over to the land with time to spare. We headed straight for the restrooms. Why is it that when you are desparately HOPING that there will be those annoying hand dryer machines, there AREN"T any. What? It this the only bathroom in all of WDW that doesn't have the blow dryers? Or have I been hilucinating? I thought they were all over the place.

I did my best to wring myself out and dry off with paper towels. Not too bad. I was wearing super thin nylon shorts. They'd be dry in no time. My shirt wasn't bothering me. I had on sandals, which I dried to the best of my ability. Not bad at all. And now we were in the Land and fixin to ride my favorite ride. Sweet. How cool is that?

Not too many other people were prepared for the rain apparantly. We had seen a surprising few walking around in their ponchos. Still fewer walking around like ourselves, sans rain protection. So when we arrived at Soarin', we were not surprised at all that there were virtually NO other people who were waiting there for this FP return time.

We blasted through the line area. The next thing we knew we were standing in the bright hall headed down the ramp. There was a family in front of us eating salt water taffy from a big huge bag. Oh my. I LOVE me some salt water taffy. I tried to not stare. I could SMELL the different flavors as we struck up a conversation with them. Yes. I like to talk to people in the lines. How kind they were to offer us some of their taffy!!

Would you like some?

I surely would, if you don't mind sharing.

We didn't wait long at all. We ended up in the lower row on the left side. Not the best seats in the house, but I didn't complain or ask to be moved. I was just excited to get to ride again. For DS, it was like riding for the first time. He couldn't remember this ride AT ALL. I must confess that he was somewhat doubtful that a ride that I liked so much would be a good one.

I am the cautious one. DH is the one that will fly down the slopes. When he accompanies me on the bunny hills, he seeks out every little bump along the edges that could possibly result in air and practices his jumps. He DOES own a snowboarding helmet. Meanwhile, I get cramps in my thighs and rear from the strain of trying to maintain control on a downhill. I know it would be easier if I would just relax and let go. Can't seem to help myself though. DS inherited the caution gene. He isn't too risky with his body. But he does like a thrill.

It seems that because I am cautious, and not sports minded, I'm a dancer/yoga enthusiast and not particularly enamoured with ANY sport, my taste is perceived to be somewhat tame. Not sure exactly how that happened since I LOVE roller coasters, but there you have it. If Momma really likes this ride, it must be pretty tame and therefore, not too much fun. Seriously. DS was along for the ride, but he didn't have high expectations that this was going to be a ride that he would find especially enjoyable. We have a policy in the family. Everyone will get to do what they want, and the others will do it, like it or not. We take turns. DS understands this. He had a good attitude. He just didn't expect to love the ride.

Which made it all the more gratifying when DS said, "That was AWESOME!!! Let's do it AGAIN!!!" at the end of the ride.

Oh yes. We will definitely do it again. We need to get into a better spot for sure. The rain had let up and the standby time reflected the increase in walking traffic outside. We wandered around the land a bit. We walked onto the boat ride.

This was a first for us. And I have to say. We all enjoyed this attraction. We will definitely do the Behind the Seeds tour on our next WDW trip. In some random way, we all found this ride to be highly informative and quite simply, fascinating. Maybe it's our interest in gardening? Maybe our interest in science? In seafood? In the random idea of living self sufficiently, off the land, the way that the Louis L'Amour men did back in the day. Owning a ranch in Wyoming or Montana, which well be completely self sustaining. People could mistake us for a freak family compound. Some day. It's going to happen. Not that you have to be a freak like us to appreciate this ride. Even the atmosphere is cool. Especially on a cloudy day. It's bright as blazes in there but not glaringly so. Very cool.

The rain had completely let up. We decided to see if the TT standby had benefited at all from the downpour. Not at all. Still WAY too long. It really was unbelievable.

I was eagar to ride Spaceship Earth. It was closed on our last visit. DS was surprised to learn that was actually a ride inside the big golf ball. We headed over to the walk on that it was.

Sometimes, I think people end up more miserable trying to avoid being uncomfortable.

Is it weird to quote yourself and offer commentary?:confused3

I just HAVE to though. I wrote the latest update well before all this life got in the way of reporting about our vacation. This sentence that I wrote felt like a V8 smack on the head. I couldn't get over my own writing in relation to our current life situation. It was the spark that resulted in the fire that has blasted through our lives to completely alter our situation. Funny how that is. I had to share.

Wow, that new living situation sounds like it's working out great! We'll be here when you get back to writing again. :)

The new situation is AWESOME. Really working out well. All parties involved are pretty happy with the deal. We are feeling our way a bit around each other and settling in to some very nice routines and ways of helping each other.

And thanks for sticking around.:goodvibes

Congrats on the new living situation---I'm sure your DH will appreciate the much shorter commute. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate, but once things get settled I'm looking forward to reading more of your TR! :thumbsup2

On the first day of the shorter commute, DS and I happened to still be driving. DH made it home (to the new home) before we did. I heard he walked through the door and walking up to his sis and BIL and announced, "17 minutes BABY!!!" Yesterday, he was asking if the clock on the oven was right. Was it really 6:23 pm? And we were done with dinner already, and had hours of evening ahead of us to enjoy. He couldn't get over it. At 7:25 PM, he was announcing that he was done with his emails for the night (he's the soccer team manager and a bit busy with start of the season paperwork), and he was astounded that he still had time to play before having to go to bed.;)

Hey!! I wondered why I wasn't behind on this TR!!! I was gone for the past two weeks and practically every other TR I am subscribed to is about 8 - 10 pages along! I am trying to catch up!!! :rotfl: So hope the trip to CO is going well and the wedding goes off without a hitch!

I know I responded in general to you Happydog, but just in the spirit of talking to everyone, I can't wait to get caught up on your TR!:lmao:

Bumping! (I miss you, Rabbit!)

It's nice to missed sometimes!:rotfl: Thanks for sharing the sentiment.:goodvibes Again. You made me smile with your post.

Hey Rabbit! I am all caught up on everything I missed! The KP missions look like so much fun! I was cracking up at your DS being all stealth and serious. That's awesome! :)

DS IS a crack up. Always good for entertainment value. I'm totally looking forward to watching him in action with his cousins on our next trip. The boy isn't as into things as he is, but the girl is. It'll be fun to watch them more and tag along rather than participating with DS.

Thanks, Ms. Rabbit!

I thought of your son the other day - have you ever heard of an author called Terry Prachett? His is DH's fave (and one of mine) and I think your DS would like his book about Maurice and the Amazing Rodents - maybe for the plane? Have a great time in the MUCH cooler CO weather!

Mrs. Spratt

I'm so glad that I went back and read this! With school starting, DS has nightly reading again. Nothing we have is very good. Too easy. Too boring. Very frustrating. I need to check this out for our reading homework!

I just got to read about your KP missions. They sound like so much fun. I honestly had NO idea that you could even do those. I would like to try,but I think my DH (we have no kids) would go along with it. Oh well...I'll just read about yours!

You should just get one for yourself to have as you go through WS. I'd wager that your DH would find it to be an interesting addition to your WS touring.:thumbsup2

It only took two days but I'm all caught up now!!!!!! I really loved your Deluxe Dining report so when I saw you were doing a TR I just had to come over and read it!!

You are an excellent writer and I have thoroughly enjoyed hearing about your trip!!

Can't wait for more!!

Sorry you had to wait so long! I'm trying to get going on this again! Thanks for coming over!:goodvibes

Great update! We heard about the KP missions right before our trip. They had a commercial about it on the Disney Channel. Since our son is so young, we did not investigate any further, but you are the second person that I have read about lately that said what a great time they had. What's funny is that we went to the France movie and I saw that little statue. No idea it would do something cool.

Funny, huh? When your son is a bit older, I'm sure you will enjoy them. You can probably do them several times in fact before memory starts to kick in. It'll be an interesting gauge to see what he remembers and doesn't actually. I find that to be true of most things with our WDW vacations.

Welcome back!! I have to agree with you that I LOVE the "Living with the Land" boat ride. I especially love the hydroponic plants! What is even more satisfying is the food at The Garden Grille. They have food very similar to what you see farming (i.e. Catfish!).

We are the same about the rain. If it doesn't look like it's going to let up, we just go out and make the best of it. We're not going to let getting wet stop us from having fun at WDW! It's so funny seeing people huddled under roofs as they watch you walk by with those look of envy, "I wish I didn't care about the rain like them!".

Sounds like it worked out good for Soarin'! Too bad you didn't get a 1st row seat though! Bummer! :guilty:

We love Living with the Land! I guess being from the Midwest might have something to do with that too. It's kind of like when we're on the Safari at AK and we drive by poop and you can smell it really good...everyone else will be like, "EWWWW! That stinks so bad!" and we're like, "Ahh..smells like the farm at home." :rotfl2:

Mrs. Rabbit!

I am SO EXCITED for you and your whole family! Having the dreaded commute irradicated? I wish there was a back-flipping emoticon!

I think DS would like ANYTHING by Terry Prachett - and I think you might enjoy his books, too!

How was the first day of school?

Best,

Mrs. Spratt

We headed over to Splash Mountain. We were in the last group allowed to cross the parade route! Whew. Just in time! The wait was short so we hopped into the standby line to ride. Line. What line? We started RUNNING through the queue, up the stairs, careful on the incline!

I think that I could write, we LOVE this ride for just about every one! But seriously. SM typifies what separates a Disney ride from rides in other parks. The staging of the scene in the line. The journey through the story. The attention to detail all over the place. It's not just a water ride. It's an experience. So much fun. I love riding this one at night.

SM is HIGH on the memory meter for DS. It ranked tied for first after our first trip to WDW. His smile was so precious on that first ride. I had to buy the photo. I posted in on my PTR and I'll post it here too. We're in the back row.

I just love these pics - your son's smile says it all (he is so adorable or should I say handsome now that he's 8!)

The popcorn didn't quite do it for us. We ate some anniversary cake! DH and I had a beer. And then we took a nap. As we were eating, drinking, and getting ready for sleep we were joking about our Elijah experience. We think it's a funny story about when Elijah was having a pity party and complaining to God. God said, Here, have some cake and take a nap. Here we were doing the same thing. Sometimes, cake and a nap is just what you need!

And that was ALL we were going to get too. DS made sure that I wrote down the time when he got into bed. 3:47 AM. He had definitely beaten his friend's late night record.

Have a nice nap son. We are eating breakfast with Donald in about 4 hours!

I've never heard that before - how cute! I'll have to remember to quote this at our next bible study group!

I just found your TR and am having a blast! What a gorgeous room view you had (altho that walk to the room each night is a bummer).

I am FINALLY caught up! Great report- I am loving the photos. I really like the WL, too.

Well glad to see you are back with your TR, too! Of course getting into a routine takes time, I get that -- but gee, it sounds nice that you will have company and that you will be able to be as a family for more of the afternoon/evening. I hate commuting -- couldn't imagine that length! SO good for all of you.

I am finishing my TR, and starting my PTR soon. Do let me know when you get the photos, I will post them on my TR then. :)

Hope school gets off to a good start for your DS!
:thumbsup2

How was the first day of school?

Best,

Mrs. Spratt

The first day went really well. Surprisingly, DS got up early (compared to summer sleeping) with no problems. DH and I walked him into his classroom. He was happy. There are a few policies that the new district has that are really nice. Like, DS is allowed to have water at his desk/table all day, so long as it has a lid. No so at the other district. Even though DS has a mid day lunch, the teacher believes in a snack. Yay! She believes in getting the kids up and stretching and walking about regularly, so she plans bathroom breaks every 60 to 90 minutes. She said, she couldn't sit still all day, she wouldn't expect the kids to. Excellent.

The biggest bummer is that there is no playground. The district is tired of the PTA ripping out the cheap playground they put in once they get funds raised and so they have decided to not have playgrounds be a part of new construction, unless 3 years pass with no playground. So, DS says that recess is pretty boring. Every one just stands around.

Overall. It's very good.

I just love these pics - your son's smile says it all (he is so adorable or should I say handsome now that he's 8!)

Oh yes. He doesn't want to be cute. Although I tell him how cute he is still. I love these pics too.

I've never heard that before - how cute! I'll have to remember to quote this at our next bible study group!

It's 1 Kings 18:4-6. Elijah had just had great success against the so called prophets of Baal, and Jezebel had threatened him, and Elijah ran off into the wilderness to hide from Jezebel. "...and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers. And as he lay and slept under a puniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat. And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again."

This is the first ever recorded angel food cake.:rotfl2: Sometimes, you just need cake and a nap.

I just found your TR and am having a blast! What a gorgeous room view you had (altho that walk to the room each night is a bummer).

I am so glad you are enjoying it. It is fun to write and relive the trip. The view was lovely and the walk from the boat wasn't bad at all. The walk from the car wasn't too fun, but not too bad when DH would drop us off at the lobby.:lovestruc

WL was very nice. I am so glad you are enjoying the report.:goodvibes

Oh my Happydog!

I got the pics. Yes I did. I just haven't had the time to deal with it all and get it sent out. Forgive me! My weekend is going to be crazy too. I'm gonna try to do it Monday!:blush

I don't mind the commute. I just turn on the music and have a little concert on the way. I especially love Toby Mac and just sing to my heart's content while I weave in and out of the terrible Houston drivers that daudle in the fast lane while talking on their cell phones. :headache::mad: Hang up and drive!!! Must be that long ago desire to be a truck driver...:rotfl:

I'm ready to hear all about your Christmas trip plans! I have to decide when to start my PTR for our family trip. It's officially unofficially in the planning stages. We have been talking it all over. It's going to be pretty crazy. My SIL texted me last night after she saw the latest commercial for free dining, wanting to know if I knew about that and could we get it? That was a rather entertaining exchange as I explained the deal to her. Did she want to pull the kids out of school and go before the end of the year? Everyone is excited, but feeling the budget crunch. Should be quite interesting to see how it all comes together.

The interesting thing now is that DS is in a school district that gets a whole week at Thanksgiving. Makes me curious about how busy it is then... He also gets a four day weekend in the fall with an early release on the Friday before. Might have to plan a return DH, DS and me only trip after the big family shindig.:rolleyes1

YAY! I'm so glad you are back!! Although I completely being busy!!! I'm so excited for all the wonderful changes going on in your household!!!!! I hope your DS has a great school year!!!

I'm like you, rain isn't going to stop me!! Usually I'll have my umbrella and my poncho and away I go...however if I didn't have either I would still be on my way...a little rain never hurt anyone and how fun that you guys are able to live it up!!!!

I'm so glad DS loved Soarin!!! It's a fabulous ride I can't wait to be able to ride it again!!!!!

Can't wait for more!

That is OKAY, Next week would be great, I hear you on the busy -- it has been busy here too! School just started, I have not exercised in a week, I am falling asleep at the computer!! I love summer hours!! Ah well it can't be perfect all the time!

Well you and me both! I have to get organized before my ADR day hits! your trip looks like it would be a great family event! But I know about getting all the ducks in a row! So DS is not going to a new school! I just realized that -- but with his cousins? That is good at least. a WHOLE WEEK at Thanksgiving??!! Gasp! he gets a "fall break"? We get that too, in October, every year. We went to WDW as adults once during that weekend, now we go to VA and enjoy the Shennandoah valley change colors! They generally have good deals at that time of year, as you can see by the ads etc.!!!

looking forward to more updates! :surfweb:

Love the update. I have never been a big fan of the land. LOL! I think living on a farm all my life, I just find it boring, and something I want to get away from. We did it last year, and DH was mad that I never took him on it before. He loved it. This past trip him and Claire did the behind the seeds tour. They enjoyed it as well. I enjoyed a free hour to myself.

It's true! She's a-LIVE!

Although how I have lived through moving twice in a four week period is something of a mystery...

The good news is that I'm pretty sure that I'm not going to be moving again before the end of the year.:lmao:

And the REALLY good news is that I found my little trip notebook!! YAY! Which means that, as soon as I get my bearings, that is, where I am in this TR, I will pick up and continue.

SO. If anyone out there is still interested...stay tuned. I will be finishing this report. I hope I still have company on Memory Lane!

welcome back! I was wondering where you've gone. Glad that all of your moves went well. I'm looking forward to reading more about your trip!
