Sleepless at Wilderness or Plan Shman 10/21 **PHOTOPASS Pics Flik!**

If you are short on hangers on your next trip call housekeeping and they will bring you a few more.
We have one cat who is very spoiled and we treat her like one of the family. That is the only bad part about vacations. I hate to leave her. She is 15 and a few months ago she had a thyroid ioidine treatment at Cornell Vet Hospital and she is doing better, but I always worry about her.
Great report. Can't wait to read more.
I guess I could have asked about extra hangers. Ah well.

15 years! That's wonderful. I'm glad the treatment helped her get better. I understand how that is. My parents call our cats the most expensive barn cats ever. Both have had some sort of medical issue. Our male's bladder got blocked with crystals. That was over $500. I didn't used to understand when people would spend significant money on their pets. $500 was a LOT of money for us. But I was like, spend it, save HIM!

Leaving them is the worst part about going on vacation. They are 9 years old, so they spend most of the day sleeping. They are still young enough that I think they do better at home alone than in a kennel. They just can't be as nice to cats in a kennel as dogs. We have special dishes that we set out. The cats know we will be gone for a bit when we set those out. I worry about them too when we are gone. I'll be happy when we get to know someone well enough that they can house sit for us when we are gone. Unfortunately, with all the moving we have done, we haven't really found that relationship yet.

More is coming shortly. I gotta upload a couple picks from the other computer. Which means I need DS to give me a turn on it. As soon as that happens. I'll post again.

When asked what the first thing he wanted to do at WDW was...DS answered without hesitation,"The Lego Store!"

Legos have been the bain of my housekeeping existent since they came into my life 4 or 5 years ago. How in the WORLD do you keep these things organized! I tried every method that I can think of. The Lego collection has grown by leaps and bounds over the years. Family members have jumped on the bandwagon and gotten Lego Kits for birthdays and Christmas. TOO MANY LEGO!!!!!

I'm a firm believer in getting rid of the old to make way for the new. Lego doesn't fall into this catagory, however. Kind of like Thomas trains. I anticipate having these in my house for my great, great Grandkids!

Every once in a while, we have to tackle the idea of sorting and organizing the Lego collection. It was a task assigned to DS before our trip. Even HE said, "I think I have too many Lego."

Ya think?

I dream of a house with a Lego work shop. Kind of like a tool bench in a garage. A desk surrounded by Lego compartments. All sorted. Organized. Easy to play with. Because we all enjoy these little building blocks of imagination. They are so much more sophisticated than they were when I was a child.

It's the engineer in DH. It's the appreciation for engineering in me, and my own creative skills. It's without question for our creative DS. We all LOVE Lego. We have to take a break from it every now and again. But time after time. The Lego rears its scattered, suddenly tons of kitty toys lying all around, head.

Even if you aren't as head over heels in like with Lego as our family, you gotta 'preciate the Lego store in DTD. They opened a Lego Store in the Houston area. It's just not the same. Not even close.

It was a piece of cake getting to DTD from AKL. I was really glad that we had finally seen the Speed Limit signs. There was a cop waiting just outside the AKL gates. Waiting for the unsuspecting, fresh off the road speeder. Tourist funded ticket money.

There are multiple entrances to the parking lot for DTD. It's helpful to look at a map to know where you want to go so that you can park close to where you think you will start or end the day. We looked for some shade for parking. It was going to be a scorcher today. It was already super hot in the 10 o-clock hour.

A short walk past the Mickey D's and we were there. Lego heaven.

The fun starts before you even enter the store. All around the outside area surrounding the store are GIANT Lego structures. It's amazing to see that they are actually made with normal sized Lego bricks. They do add some structural assistance for some of them, but overall, the huge statues are amazing feats of Lego engineering. The following pictures are a combination of this trip and our last, which I have included for your viewing pleasure.

100_2416.jpg

Also outside the store is a small play structure. It's geared toward the toddler set. Something to keep them occupied while their older siblings play with small parts that could cause choking. There is a very large area dedicated to simply playing with Lego. Intelligent people that Lego are, they have shaded this entire area allowing youngsters and oldsters a chance to exercise their creativity.

INSIDE the store is an overwhelming selection of Lego. It is BEYOND overwhelming. If you have any one that has a tough time making decisions, then be prepared for something of a melt down. Because here, there's virtually everything that is currently available. And more.

There is the Lego WALL. Where, for a flat rate, you can fill a small or large sized container to the max with your personal selection of Lego from those available here.

100_2420.jpg

TOO many CHOICES!! The first time we came here, I really thought that DS would get a kick out of the wall. But it was too overwhelming. He couldn't find an angle. He couldn't think of a particular project to work on. And he COULDN'T just pick pieces at random to fill a cup. Warning, if you have a similar child.

The other make your own item in the store is for minifigures. I think it's $9.99 to put together three complete minifigures. You get to choose the heads, hair or hat, body, legs, and one accessory for each minifigure. Most of the ones here were from Lego City, but we did see a couple of random Star Wars figure parts.

462.jpg

This time, DS was more prepared for the store. He could enjoy all the little displays. He could have fun being able to read all the boxes. Which is something that you never get to see in the catalog. And if you know Lego, then you know, the BACK of the box is where all the info is.

460.jpg

461.jpg

There are also MORE fun structures. This guy is listening to his iPod. DH was really curious to see how they did his dreads. They cheated, he said. There's wire in the middle.

100_2419.jpg

In addition to the statues that seem to last for a longer time, many of them were hear two years ago, and thus I included more pics from our 2007 trip to this store, there is also a display in the center of the store that features more of the newer Lego sets. This year, the theme was Star Wars. Someone had a good time making the Star Wars bar:

A band in the bar:

456.jpg

458.jpg

This display is behind a short wall to prevent any guests from playing with these blocks. When we were here in 2007, the display was a work in progress. This one seemed to be pretty well finished.

We spent a long, Long, LONG time in this store. A really LONG time. I know that DH and DS took a bathroom break while we were here. I think they ran next door to the McDonald's. DS was heming and hawing over the selection here. He had some money to spend on this trip. We encouraged him with the fact that this was Day ONE. We would be back. There was plenty of time to make decisions on what he would like to have for a souvenir.

DS remembered. Isn't there a build your own Lightsaber?

You bet.

Let's check that out.

Ah. We were able to leave the Lego store. On the way, we HAD to check out the cool window displays that are all along the outer wall of the building. I look at these and wonder about who makes these? Do they get PAID? How cool would that be? I wanna get paid to play with Lego! It's fun to go through and identify the different countries represented in each window.
England startled me! The telephone rings.

DS wanted to hear it!

Off we went in search of the build your lightsaber, which I THOUGHT was in the World of Disney store...

6 cats!!!:scared1::lmao:

I don't know if I could HANDLE that much personality walking around my house! I LOVE our kitties. Didn't think I would ever feel this way about cats. My parents are dog people. Really don't like cats themselves, so naturally, I took after them, with a little distain for cats. DH, however, always had cats. Long story on getting the cats, but suffice it to say, I'm so happy we have our two. I can't imagine our family without them.

I'm cracking up picturing your DH trying to make the cards!:rotfl2: My little girl would be copping an attitude BIG time. You want me to touch my paw on what?!? I can only imagine! Oh my!

I'm in a writing mood today. I have to take a break from the house projects. My shoulder is absolutely SCREAMING at me!:scared: I'm not used to using it as much as I have been. So I'm trying to get some TR done.

Back and forth between TR and playing Toontown with DS. I'll be making more posts today. Get your lattes. There should be a bit to read...:goodvibes

......and two 100 pound dogs :rolleyes1

I don't drink lattes, but I've got my fresh brewed iced tea all ready to go. More TR please!! :goodvibes

I love the cat cards! My DH always gets a card from our kitty every Father's Day, since we don't have a child yet.

World of Disney is really close to the Lego store. Just down the way. Even on such a short gaunt, there's so much to see along the way. If you are a looky lou, then DTD is the place for you!

I think there was a temporary tattoo stand along the way. We had to pause to check it out. DH has always wanted some sort of arm band. He has an idea of what he would like, so he always looks at the temporary ones, whether or not we are at DTD or the Renaissance Festival, so he can see if there's one that he wants to try on for size, so to speak.

All the ones on display here were too thorny or icky for DH. Not his speed. Expressing some frustration over this and the fact that we hadn't found or seen a place that sold lattes for a snack credit, we approached the World of Disney.

There are plenty of photo ops outside this store. There was almost a LINE forming on the girl's side. It's really too bad that there WASN'T a line. You could see the frustration forming in the parents as they tried to figure out who should be next. And the ANGER when someone just came in out of no where to get a closer look at the Cindy statue, or whoever it was that was there. I directed the men over to the entrance closer to the boys' side.

We gratefully walked into the air conditioning.

The men were busying themselves with the plushes from Up! They were pretty funny. If you squeezed their paws, they would talk. It was a good laugh to hear the doberman's voice.

474.jpg

473.jpg

DS was having a good time with the guns.

475.jpg

I was looking around, trying to figure out where the build your own lightsaber would be. Duh. It's in the TOY store. We never went into the toy store on our last visit. Let's head on over there. We can browse the WoD store later.

I LOVE the Pirates of the Carribean. One of my absolute favorites. I had to take pictures of the exit/entrance. These are above the prison cells.

471.jpg

472.jpg

These are prison cells underneath. The pirates behind bars shake every time the door opens. It's kind of freaky. But I LOVED it.

468.jpg

469.jpg

470.jpg

On the way to Once Upon a Toy, we saw the Guest Services area. We headed in there. Actually, I headed in there, while DH and DS headed into the ESPN/sports store which was connected to it. I needed to get a Disney Rewards Card. I knew I could pick one up here and then call to transfer my Disney dollars to it. The LINE though. Ugh. I didn't want to wait. I found DH and DS in the store.

We spent some time looking around. We were frustrated that there was such a lack of soccer related things. There were a few, but by comparison. Not much. We know it's not as popular a sport as others, but it IS a sport in season. Ah well.

DH was also pretty frustrated by the prices. There were some really nice shirts there. Sport polos made with technical fabrics. But hello? Who spends over $70 on a shirt that they are just going to sweat in? Seriously. I'll spend wisely. And I would expect technical gear to cost a bit more. You want it to stand up to some abuse too, since you WILL be sweating in it. But $70? I don't THINK so.

We did admire the small skill soccer balls. They had a big Mickey head on them. Even as Mickey's head went rolling through the store, I announced that I wasn't too sure about that!

We continued on our way.

Still no lattes.

There it is!

476.jpg

We had to pose at the available photo ops. Boys!

477.jpg

I'm not exactly sure WHAT DS was trying to do...

478.jpg

Buzz was being such a boy too. I had to slap him for being so fresh with me.

479.jpg

480.jpg

This toy store is TOO fun! While Woody watched from above

487.jpg

We played with the build your own Mr. Potato Head. As were many other patrons. There was one CM whose job it was, it seemed anyway, to disassemble all the creations left lying around. Everyone was having a good time designing their own. But few were undesigning.

482.jpg

481.jpg

DS went through several different variations of the famous spud. His fav was the Star Wars version.

484.jpg

483.jpg

486.jpg

In an attempt to get moving on, I saw the Club Penguin display. DS had us all playing Club Penguin for a while. My penguin has a blue puffle named Latte. Go figure. This past Christmas/Birthday we searched and searched to get puffles. They were REALLY hard to find. We keep getting colors we don't have as we find them. Two are mine. A purple one named Smoothy. And a pink one named Peppermint. Look DS!

I don't really play that any more, Momma.

Oh. OK.

Things change so fast.

Look! There's the build your own lightsaber!

You will build a battery powered saber. It lights up and makes noise when it hits something. When you pay for your saber, they will install the battery for you. This will insure that all the parts are working properly. You have the choice to build a two-sided or one-sided saber. It's only $5.00 more to build a two-sided one. The deal is that there is only one battery though, so only one side of the two-sided saber will actually light up.

It takes a bit of time to figure this thing out. The display has two identical sides. If everyone will work together and read through the directions, it's not too difficult. You just have to pay attention. Messy, lazy people will get things out and not put them away properly. You have to watch to make sure that the piece is an option for where you are in the building process. Just because it is in that bin, doesn't mean it is. This frustrated DS. He needed some assistance to get going on the project.

There was one CM trying to keep order here. The one side was so disorganized that DH took DS over to the other one. Something to remember if you find yourself frustrated. DS decided to build a two-sided Dark Side sword.

492.jpg

493.jpg

494.jpg

Success.

496.jpg

I didn't want to be left out of the action. I built my own on the other side. Purple is one of my favorite colors, so naturally, I made a purple one. I knew that DS would also need someone to battle with his new creation.

497.jpg

After seeing my Light Side sword, DS realized that he would prefer to be a good guy. Here is DH swapping out blue for red.

498.jpg

To the cashier, I also brought the ONE little part that would be required to cap off the end if DS wanted to alter his two-sided sword to a one-sided sword later. This was not included in the cost of the two-sided sword. No. This was not sold separately. Ok. Fine.

The CM confirmed that we had gotten one of each color of the crystals that are a part of the building process. One is installed in the sword at a time. Two are stored. The sound of the sword changes depending on which crystal is installed. The three are uniquely shaped. There are two sensors in the chamber. Either one, the other, or both of the sensors are engaged depending on which crystal is installed. Pretty cool.

New sword in hand, we went off to find our next adventure.

And this is when DH asked about lunch.

We had been walking around DTD for over three hours. We were close to Wolfgang Puck Express. If you haven't read my dining report, you can read all about our dining experience at WPE here.

Fried alligator is yummy? You know, I came to Houston for a trade show, long before I lived here. We went with the local sales rep to some Cajun place. My most clear memory is that the guy who was the host, I think he owned it, he could work his throat so that he could sound JUST like a train horn. EXACTLY. It was amazing. We were a huge group and he just FED us. We had frog legs and alligator. The only thing I remember about it is that I think I thought it was a bit chewy. Might have to try Charlies's and expand our culinary horizons.

And thanks. I try.:goodvibes
It IS a little chewy, but still yummy, and that buffett - it is a crazy smorgasboard of all things fried and yummy. Even their veggies are awesome. It is a little pricey ($14.00/per person?) but is a value, as it is all you care to eat. Mr. Spratt and I drive to Sulpher to buy our New Year's Fireworks (LA laws allow more gunpowder than TX, so the fireworks are, well, more powerful...it takes us about 2.5 hours to drive to Sulpher, we eat, then go to Angelo's for some AWESOME firework shopping, then home. It is a WONDERFUL day trip in December!

And I like people watching too. The only thing that makes me sad about stopping along the way is when I've got a good road buddy. You know those random cars that you kind of pair up with along the drive? I ALWAYS wonder about the people. What are all these people doing? Where are they going?

I've had 'road buddies' pull in for gas at the same time and ask me how far I'm going! I love road buddies, and so does Hot Tomato (my car.) It is always lovely to have someone to pace with, and I think it keeps your mind on the road.

Fellow People watchers, unite!

Um. NO. We are a family and we do things as a family. You will come and help us get all this stuff.

You rock! I think Mrs. Bueller Sr. (Momma) might have said that once or twice to Ferris and me...:rolleyes1

If you look at our shirts, you can see we are now sporting our sweet anniversary buttons. I want to take a romantic picture. For your anniversary.

Oh. Giggle. OK. Our DS. He puckers his lips and mades this num num num sound, like Mrs. Incredible feeding Jack Jack. This is his visual for kissing. It cracks us up. You can see our laughter.

384.jpg

I remeber when Momma and Daddy kissing grossed me out - now I am SO GRATEFUL they DO!

So we started off the meal with a card addressed "To the one with such rubbable legs..." Our little girl cat Molly LOVES to rub DH's legs right when he gets out the shower. Weird kitty. It was a cute card from the cat with a picture of a calico cat that resembled Molly. It made DH laugh.

A bit later, we opened up round two.

DS wrote on the envelope...Once there was a question. The card has a picture of Darth Vadar on the front, and the text: Across the centuries and the galaxies, one question has plagued mankind- "Why?" And dads have the answer...

It's a talking card. When you open it up, Darth Vadar says, "I AM your father." With the text: (that's why)

This is too perfect for our family. We LOVE Star Wars and DH quotes this line all the time whenever we read anything from Luke in the Good Book or anyother time it MIGHT make a lick of sense to quote.

There was another card from our other cat, Toby, our plump boy. It was addressed "To the one with the pits I love to smell..." because gross boy that he is, Toby always smells DH's pits in the morning if we are lounging in the bed. :scared: I know. Right.

The cover of the card had a picture of a cat making a hilarious face and saying, in a word bubble, Dad, Seriously! Light a Match! No additional commentary needed.

Round 3 came in another buffet interval. Here was a sentimental, meaningful card from DS. And a separate one from me. I LOVE my DH. We brought tears to his eyes. Happy Father's Day! His gift was a folding picture frame. The kind that holds two 5 x 7 pictures with hinges between so it can stand up by itself. It was for DH's desk at work. This is our traditional Father's Day gift.

One frame had DS's latest soccer picture, which is probably one of our fav pics of him. It's just such a good likeness. He looks so convident in it. The other was a surprise picture of DS and me. Also a soccer portrait. I was the team manager this year. For doing that, I got a complementary picture with my son. It hadn't come in the box with all the team pictures. I had had to call to have it sent. They had overlooked it. I was so excited that it came the day before we left for WDW so I could include it with the gift! DH was excited to see it. I would show it but DH already took it to work. Sorry.

I thought we were the only family that sends cards from the animals...:rotfl:

Every once in a while, we have to tackle the idea of sorting and organizing the Lego collection. It was a task assigned to DS before our trip. Even HE said, "I think I have too many Lego."

You gotta big house? I think your family wouldn't fit in mine! What kind of dogs?

You know. Making iced tea is one thing I don't do well. I'm a great cook. Really. I am. But I can't seem to figure it out.:confused3

I love the cat cards! My DH always gets a card from our kitty every Father's Day, since we don't have a child yet.

I love it! Cats are a part of the family after all...

Ok, you are one of the coolest Moms EVER! I love it that you built a light saber, too...Thanks for all of the great updates!

Oh. You sound like a family after DH's heart! When we lived in KS, we went to the most liberal place for fireworks around. They are really strict there with fireworks. And weird. You can ONLY shoot them off IN city limits. Funny, huh? That was a new one on me. I think it is because of all the farming fields around. Anyway, we were in Andover and they had these HUGE, powerful ones. DH was so excited because he had never SEEN any that big before. I didn't get it. As a CA raised kid, I thought the thing that you use to LIGHT the fireworks was a TOY. Fireworks were a big no go everywhere around. I think it's called a punk? You can make fun tracers with it. DH laughed at me so hard.

All the fireworks around here at New Years was a new thing for us. That's never been legal anywhere I have lived before. Such a crack up. Any excuse to blow things up in Texas!

I've had 'road buddies' pull in for gas at the same time and ask me how far I'm going! I love road buddies, and so does Hot Tomato (my car.) It is always lovely to have someone to pace with, and I think it keeps your mind on the road.

I've only had that happen to me ONCE. The BEST road buddy I ever had was a Semi between Houston and San Antonio. Long story, but DH needed a ride to Houston. I took him after I got off work. I had to be back at work the next day. Needless to say, I was interested in getting back home quickly.

My Granddaddy always said that the truckers will let you know where the cops are if you are wise. So me and my little Miata tagged along one. We had one other car in our train. The trucker slowed down, so naturally I did as well. I knew there was a cop ahead. The other guy was impatient. He passed us both. Sure enough. About one or two miles down the road that guy was pulled over!:rotfl2: And about one or two miles down the road, we got up to cruising speed again.

That Semi honked at me when I exited in San Antonio. Made it there in less than TWO hours.:rolleyes1

You rock! I think Mrs. Bueller Sr. (Momma) might have said that once or twice to Ferris and me...:rolleyes1

Kids these days. Or rather. I should say parents these days. It feels like they've gone soft. Kids need to learn to be bored. And do something they don't want to do with a good attitude. We hammer that into our DS every chance we get. Because normally, we like him entertained and having fun.:upsidedow

I remeber when Momma and Daddy kissing grossed me out - now I am SO GRATEFUL they DO!

So DS says to me. You know. A lot of kids in my school. Well the boys. They think that girls, or kissing girls is gross. Not good. But I don't.:scared1:

I thought we were the only family that sends cards from the animals...:rotfl:

No way man. Not people who have animals in the FAMILY.:thumbsup2 Now the cow that was named Hangaburger on the dairy farm that DH briefly lived on while growing up...

You rock.
Thank you. Thank you very much.

Ever play Toontown?

Nope, not a particularly big house, your typical 3 small bedrooms and 1.5 bath home---we're just a little bit nuts

Home brewed iced tea is SUPER easy now. I used to have to make a whole pitcher, but Lipton recently started selling "cold brew" tea bags, so now you just stick a tea bag in a cup of cold water, add a packet of your preferred sweetener and presto!! Home brewed iced tea!! :thumbsup2

Your animals are BEAUTIFUL!! I cracked up when I saw your Toby!

Look at MY TOBY!!

How FUNNY! It's like they are long lost brothers! Mine being the BIGGER bro, of course. Your Toby looks like he's lean. Mine weighs in at almost 20 pounds. He's HUGE. He's one of the biggest cats people have ever seen. I measured him from nose to the where his tail STARTS. 27" long!

We named our Toby after Toby Mac.

And since it seems we've got some animal lovers around...here's my little girl, Molly. Course, as you can see from her belly hanging over the side...she's not so little either!

Love labs. We inherited my Grandmother's when she passed away. He was the most awesome dog ever.:lovestruc

Thanks for sharing your family!:goodvibes

There you are! I read bits of you PTR and was waiting for your return...obviously I missed something along the way.
:confused3
I'm subbing and will hopefully catch up in the near future!

Yep, I'd say yours is definitely is the bigger of the two Tobys. My Mom has a cat named Duke who topped the scales at 29 pounds, so I'm no stranger to huge cats---I just don't have any of them myself. :goodvibes

Sitting was unbelieveably LOVELY after shopping nonstop for so many hours. Lunch had been a nice break. The facilities were calling, however, so we got up and went around the way to use them.

What should we do now?

It was not unexpected that going to Disney Quest was requested. It was in fact, the only reason that we got the Water Parks & More option on our tickets.

We started walking in that direction. We paused for pics along the way. I really love the brooms from Fantasia. DS was lovin' his new saber.

506.jpg

507.jpg

As we neared the end of the walkway and approached the lake, I was reminded of the boat that runs between the Marketplace and the West Side. YAY!! The LAST thing I felt like doing was walking ALL the way from one end of DTD to the other. Disney Quest was on the exact opposite side of DTD from where we were. I was HAPPY to see the boat!

It just so happened that one was docked and ready to board! Woo hoo! We quickly boarded and found a seat where we could face eachother. How happy are YOU to be sitting again?

508.jpg

Looks pretty happy. DS was bugging me to do my fish face. I had a friend in college that had big, beautiful eyes. They were that kind that already projected a bit from your face? She would open her eyes WIDE, and turn her mouth upside down, and flap her hands at her face in an EXCELLENT imitation of a large mouth bass. I showed this to DS once, and ever since, every once in a while, he will beg me to do my fish face. Here he his trying to goad me into doing it:

509.jpg

Not gonna happen my friend. Sit back and enjoy the ride! Even if you just take a round trip on the boat, you really should just to see DTD from the water. A shady spot to sit with a view. Here are the sites:

520.jpg

I highly recommend the boat transportation.

521.jpg

The big white tent thing is where the Circe du Soliel performs. The big blue box is Disney Quest. I know. Not the most inspiring looking building!

519.jpg

It may not be much on the outside, but as you can tell, from DS's excitement...

522.jpg

Inside it's a LOT of fun. IF you are in to gaming that is.

524.jpg

The entrance is at the ropes. You enter into a very small lobby type area with typical park entrance turn styles. At this time of day, it was virtually empty here. It's before 2:00 PM. Enter the elevator. Watch the screen on the left side of the elevator. The Genie from Aladdin will escort you to your destination. I enjoy this little show, no matter how many times I see it. Probably because we live around Houston, I really like to hear, "Houston, We have a problem." The elevator will lift you to the third floor. The center floor of this five story gaming haven.

Where to?

We let DS lead the way here. It really doesn't matter when you do what here. Not at this time of day anyway. DS wanted to head to the top floor to ride the alien game.

Do not mistakenly think that Disney Quest is JUST about video games. Far from it. Although they have those. There's a reason it's called Disney Quest Indoor Interactive Theme Park. There are several virtual reality experience/games among other things. Invasion! An ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter is one of these. Up to four people can play. You enter into a small room with four positions/rolls.

525.jpg

One chair is the designated captain's chair, the driver. The other three are gunners. You sit two backed up to two. The room itself is a 360 virtual screen experience. Your "room" is actually a space vehicle. While waiting in line to blast off on your mission, this lady will tell you what is up.

528.jpg

Aliens have attacked our outpost on Mars. Your mission is to go to Mars, collect as many survivors as you can and get back to Earth. The setting looks very similar to this screen.

527.jpg

We have never succeeded in the mission. It was MY turn to try driving. OH! SO close. We'll get 'em next time.

Onward.

On the same floor is Ride the Comix. Battle supervillains as you fly through a virtual reality comic book world. DS hadn't wanted to do this last time around, but he was game this time! This is a helmet based virtual reality. First, you affix the thing that will hold the helmet to your head. Like so.

530.jpg

Then, you enter into the area with 6 other players. You buckle into the standing chair so that you don't fall over as you battle the bad guys. Now take the hanging virtual reality helmet and snap it onto the thing on your head. Hold your sword, which is like the handle of a lightsaber. You have to hold it with two hands, pushing two buttons on the handle to activate it. Now, battle the bad guys in the comics!

088.jpg

You fight as a team. Sort of. You are all on the same mission. You are all on the same flying ship thing. At times, you can see each other. In the end, you will fight a "Boss." Each person on the team will battle ONE of the six different figures portrayed in the posters in the waiting area at the end. DH and I were VERY grateful that I ended up fighting what we thought was the worst looking bad guy. At the end, you see if your team succeeded or failed. You also see your ranking on the team. DH and I tied for first place!

Warning. This one will get your blood pumping. If you fight, you will probably sweat. It's like THAT. I FOUGHT those vicious dogs that were attacking me. I FOUGHT all the bad guys. And I really FOUGHT that boss. Know your kid and yourself. This one is for older kids. DH and I weren't thrilled that DS had been exposed to these images. We were glad that it was early in the day and we prayed that they wouldn't effect his sleep. Just saying.

The helmets are really uncomfortable. They are a one size fits all. If you have a smaller than average head, like DS, and ME, then there is a foam piece that you add to help the helmet fit better. Still. The weight bears down on your forehead. It kind of cut into my nose. All things combined to make this a one time works for me kind of a deal.

We headed on down to the sports/music area on the fourth floor. Here there were air hockey tables! DS enjoys this a LOT. He and DH played.

531.jpg

532.jpg

I went to the back of this same room and TRIED to play the dancing game. The kind where you have to hit the different squares with the arrows pointing in the different directions? Oh my! OK. If I had one of these at home, I just might be in better shape! It was much, much harder than the ones that I have tried before.

DH wanted to try his hand at Galaga. His long time favorite arcade game. The last time we were here, he got the high score. He wanted to try it again. We hunted down the Classic area, where all the old school games are. The one on the third floor was pretty busy, so we headed to the one on the fifth floor. That's where I found Centipede.

My Mom worked for Atari back in its hey day. Yes. I played Beta versions of Pac Mac on a 5-1/4" floppy disc. Atari had an arcade in every building for the use of the employees. I spent one summer going to work with my Mom and playing Centipede. Every day. Almost ALL day. For a SUMMER. I used to ROCK at Centipede. I had a lot of fun playing it here.

After a time with the older games, we headed back down to where the air hockey was. There was one table available, but the puck for it was no where to be found. We tried our hand at the Guitar Hero games that lined the other side of the room.

We've just gotten into these types of games. DS was exposed at a birthday party. They are a lot of fun. We aren't thrilled with the music that is played on all of them. We really wish that they would come out with an E rated version. We found Rock Band, the original for our PS2 on a major clearance and bought it. It's good for DS to have a clue on these things because they are extremely popular. We just have to police it.

DH and DS had a good time battling.

I really wanted to do the Pirates of the Caribbean ride here. Another virtual reality game. Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for Buccaneer Gold, become a Pirate and sail the high seas in search of gold. I had only read about it. It seemed like a lot of fun. DH and DS didn't know anything about it. I had to push to get the men to go do it. Come on.

537.jpg

Pirates is on the bottom floor. There's usually a wait for this ride because it is known as one of the BEST rides here. There is no time posted for the line though, so how long it takes is anyone's best guess. Sure enough. There was a line. But we hopped right into it.

540.jpg

For the ride itself, your party is lead down this hallway

541.jpg

into one of many rooms. Before you enter the room, you put on 3D, or 4D, glasses. Whatever. In the room, you enter onto a small setting that is like the bow of a ship. There's the deck rail with cannons mounted on the rails. Three on each side. One player can also steer the ship. The Captain will also control the throttle. The object is to sink any and all other pirate ships by blasting away at them with the cannons. If you sink a ship, the gold on that ship gets transfered to your ship. All of this is told to you by a skeleton pirate that flies around on the surrounding screens that will become the virtual world you will enter after he tells you what you are doing. A the very end, you have to battle him.

You will be rated on your performance at the end. I don't recall the maximum occupancy of the rooms; we were able to do the experience with just the three of us. We achieved the second to highest rating on our first try! King of the Caribbean! We were so excited. This game ROCKED! DS chose to be the captain. DH and I manned the cannons. Do NOT think that you can just stay on one cannon and get the job done. You have to run around those cannons and work your little tushy off to attack those ships! DH and I were SWEATING when we got out of there! What a rush though. It was TONS of fun!! We all LOVED it!

A word of warning to the sensitive. That skeleton man gets IN YOUR FACE during the ride. It totally made me laugh. What an experience!

I learned later in the week that the cannons on this ride are the same as the ones for the Toy Story Mania ride. Here's the big secret for working the cannons. You have to hold the ball on the string between your middle and ring fingers. This is the best grip for FAST action on the cannon!

We were on a high. It was a good note to end our Disney Quest adventure. We had an ADR at California Grill to get ready for. Time to head on out to the car and home to the lodge. We were rushing through what there is of Pleasure Island.

How sad it feels! So empty feeling. DH and I were reminiscing about our honeymoon. We spent one night partying there. This was back in the day where you paid one admission price to get into Pleasure Island. There was alcohol EVERYWHERE. We couldn't believe it! This was also back in the day for DH and I, when we were still partiers. Well. THAT kind of partier. Picture street venders with jello shots all lined up in the ice of their carts, shots in test tubes, rows of beer, wine coolers, etc. And every night at midnight it was New Year's Eve with a big fireworks display. What a change!

We were tired. It was quite a haul back to the car. We had parked on the opposite side of DTD. There wasn't time to do anything else, like the boat or the bus to save our legs or feet. It felt AWESOME to sit in the car! We headed back to WL for a quick change before dinner.

It felt like a hike to get back to the room, where we hurried to change for dinner.

And we were off again! We had a 5:30 ADR for California Grill. This is when we discovered the stairs right outside our room's door! They let out of the building close to the pool bar. How convenient for getting to the boat launch!

The boat is such a nice way to travel around WDW. We entered the line for the resort boat. We didn't wait long. Today's route would take us to the Fort first and then to CR. It sounded like the order of the resorts might change depending on the day or the hour. DH and I were sporting our anniversary buttons. The boat PILOT wished us a Happy Anniversary.

How many years?

12!

What? Did you have him (indicating DS) when YOU were 12!

Ha ha!

I'm often mistaken for a younger person. I was one of those that was always told, you will appreciate it when you're older. I'm not sure that I APPRECIATE it. It was rough business last year on my anniversary when I didn't have my wallet with me and I was carded at our celebration. Our server had to check with his manager to see if he could serve me. Not that not drinking is the end of the world. It's just that APPRECIATE factor.

There was another couple on the boat celebrating their anniversary as well. The lady said, "How did HE know?" She thought the pilot was talking to them. They were locals. They were crusing around, checking out the resorts. I don't recall where they were eating to celebrate.

Back to the PILOT of the boat. The man explained that he was the PILOT, NOT the captain. A captain goes down with his ship. A pilot however, does not. He was definitely a pilot!

Leaving the boat dock...

543.jpg

While we were cruising Bay Lake, we got a close up view of the island in the middle of it. There are TONS of birds on it. And it looks like there are structures and various other things on it. We wondered about it. Could you rent a boat and dock over there and walk around? Hmmm.

545.jpg

It didn't take long to get to CR.

We didn't have time to dauddle. If you haven't read my dining report, you can read all about our dining experience here in my dining report.

I was thrilled to have the window table. Even IF the view was obscured by the sun shades, which you can see behind DS.

552.jpg

Again. Sitting was SO nice. DS wanted to take another romantic picture.

549.jpg

We enjoyed our complementary champagne.

547.jpg

We thoroughly enjoyed our leisurely meal. It was just right on a day like today, where we had been on our feet for most of it. I couldn't believe that the only other times we had SAT were lunch, car rides, and boat rides! I was SHOCKED that we were up for doing ANYTHING after dinner. I didn't think that we would be.

On our last visit, it took us a full day to get into vacation mode. We had flown in from Houston.
We had arrived early on our arrival day, before lunch. But we still needed a day to relax and get geared up for touring the parks. We had also visited DTD on our first day. We swam after dinner and then we went to bed early.

I guess when you DRIVE, you have more time to make that transition from the every day into vacation days. Air travel is more hectic. Schedule oriented. Dealing with stuff. Dealing with people. Go go go. Travel day is more tiring. Driving is more relaxing, I guess. Especially the way that we drove. We were on vacation from the first hour. And it felt like it. There was nothing but eachother for company. We were in a private space. We were enjoying each other. We were totally on vacation already.

"So what could we do tonight?"

It's moments like these that all the research and planning pay off.

"Well. We could do the campfire that we didn't do last night."

And.

"We could go swimming."

And.

"We could go to the Magic Kingdom. There's EMH tonight. It's open til 3 AM."

DS would have prefered to go to Epcot. But Future World was about to close, or was closed already. World Showcase would be closing soon. Animal Kingdom was closed. We hadn't planned on going to Hollywood Studios so I didn't even know its hours.

Let's go to MK!

Wow. OK!

We had DS's left over dessert. DH would like to change his shoes. No problem. We would just take the boat back to WL. Then take the boat over to MK! But before we leave, let's check out the view. We headed out to the viewing deck that faces MK.

575.jpg

578.jpg

579.jpg

We made our way back down to the boat dock. It was fun to see where so many others have taken pictures.

580-1.jpg

More Fantasia influence. Mickey topiary is cool!

581.jpg

582.jpg

The Contemporary looked really nice. Aren't my men sweet. They tolerate all my picture taking so well. Can't you just READ that in the body language. LOL.

583.jpg

Look at this one. You can barely see the monorail coming in.

584.jpg

I think that it would be fun to try staying at CR, at least once.

585.jpg

OR BAY LAKE TOWERS!!

586.jpg

I couldn't figure out if that was a pedestrian bridge linking the two. Either one would be such fun to stay at. Hopefully, one day we will.

Today, it was time to head back to WL and get a move on to PM EMH at MK!

Ooo fun! Thanks for all the info on DQ- we are trying it for the first time in November. My boys are 11 and 8, I think they will LOVE IT.

That island you went past in Bay Lake used to be called Discovery Island and you could tour it- it was a wildlife preservation or something like that. No one is allowed to go to it anymore, I don't think...

And yes, someday you should stay at the CR! We've stayed twice, and it's awesome to feel sooo close to the MK, have monorail access, and the rooms are quite large. We are hoping for a BLT trip in the summer of 2011 (lucky us, my parents own a lot of points with DVC! Yay!). And yep, I'm pretty sure that's a pedestrian bridge connecting the two. Neat!

Another great installment- woo hoo!!!!!

If your boys are into gaming then they should LOVE DQ. I would recommend getting there earlier than later. It starts to get really busy in the evenings. I think an AP pass to it is pretty cheap so a lot of locals come in. It's a great thing to do first thing on a more relaxing day because it opens so late in the morning!

There'll be more info on DQ coming...

You are lucky that your parents have a bunch of DVC points. I wish that we could get back to WDW this year. Crazy, but true. We are RCI owners and now we have access to DVC through RCI. They have some AWESOME deals right now for Sept and Oct. Super cheap for what it is, but unfortunately, I can't really take advantage of it. Ah well.

One of these days...

Too pooped to multi-quote (lame, I know....) BUT, thank you, Ms. Rabbit, for the amazing descriptions of Disney Quest (well, everything!) I had no idea how cool some of the DQ games are - and you gave the IMPORTANT info - Helmets 1 size fits all, you will sweat, etc.

I just love your TR - and I'm picking up a few parenting tips for future little Spratts, too!:goodvibes

More, more, your fans are clamoring for more!

And I hope your shoulder gets better - ;)

Mrs. Spratt

Geesh! I replied and I HADN'T READ THE NEW UPDATE YET!

You are fast, Ms. Rabbit!

And I agree with the PILOT - you are just beautiful, and you look YOUNG. I know from the bitsy bit of your PTR I read that you were working on tightening all of the proverbial belts - you look thin, and beautiful, and I love love love your anniversary dress - simple and comfortable, yet pretty enough to be "dressy." FAAAbulous!

Mrs. Spratt
