Sleeping on the way home

I managed to get quite a lot of sleep this time so much so i missed breakfast on the way home!!!I have invested in a mp3, stick the ear phones in and lose myself in the music. It worked a treat for me oh and we booked legroom seats so that helped

I think there are definately
a) those who can sleep and
b) those who can't!
Have been flying over to the US for 40 years and still can't sleep, whereas DH and both DD and DS all get a couple of hours +. Have even tried sleeping pills etc.. but feel ghastly with these.. so now just snuggle down and watch the latest movie etc..

thanks for all the replies guys...especially Boo.. I will check out the pillows...We have made up our minds and booked torture class :rotfl2: ...I guess the money could be spent on better things than trying to get to sleep on a plane...hmmm shopping

As has been mentioned before NEVER ask for an upgrade! a young couple in front of us did one time on a flight to New York (very well dressed, asked politely, said it was some special occasion etc) I felt incredibly sorry for them as the check in staff couldn't have looked any more horrified if they had tried! They were quite curt with the couple and had a good laugh at their expense making several sarcastic comments amongst themselves as soon as they had walked away. I think you have to rely on luck to get one :)

Hi there, does anyone manage to sleep on the way home?...we`ve always flown economy and its always felt like torture, trying to get comfy and doze.... but are considering to upgrade to premium, just for the extra legroom and seat pitch....is it worth it? Thanks for any advice anyone can give us
This is why we are going to do this on our next trip-economy outbound premium economy inbound!the only thing is that i am too worried to sleep properley on the plane just incase I snore :rotfl2:

We got upgraded on the way there to premium seating, but not on the way back! It was amazing how much better we were treated and fussed over! Great amount of legroom too. I'm not sure at all why they upgraded us. I suppose we didn't look too casual, but not smart either. Think I was wearing tshirt, cardigan, capri trousers and flip flops!

I can never sleep on the way back from Florida :(

Don't know why - I've flown numerous short flights to Amsterdam and Ireland that only last an hour and I have no trouble dropping off but don't seem to be able to sleep on a long haul flight :(

One of the reasons we always fly Virgin Uc is the beds on the way home, gettin g soke sleep is worth the cost, especially if you have a long drive when you arrive back in the UK.

Better refreshed than tired and potentially a danger on the road

We will look at other airlines as their beds come on line.

Just a word of warning about melatonin. I tried this once on a long haul flight but couldn't get comfortable enough to get to sleep. I was left feeling sick, drowsy and very irritable  : not a great combination! Needless to say I haven't bothered again.
Having said this I am also affected badly by anything with pseudoephedrine in it ie Lemsip Max and such-like, and medicines like Hedex/Anadin Extra. I just can't take the 'Extra'! So, if you're like me, I wouldn't go for melatonin! :sad2:

British Airways are updating their Club World cabin and seats next year - http://www.newclubworld.com

Although the Orlando route TENDS to be one of the later ones to receive any upgrade (they go for the "business" routes before the "bucket and spade" routes...).

I always sleep all the way home, unfortunately my legs blow up like balloons and won't go down for about 3 or 4 days.

I guess it's because i've spent the previous fortnight running around like a lunatic

I have always slept all the way there and back, now I varley make it to take off before I am fast asleep. I nearly always sleep until I am woken up about 10mins before landing.

For me I thinks its because being self employed I am running around trying to get things sorted so I am shattered and that I hate flying so much my body is protecting me LOL

I wonder if thats why DH can sleep anywhere - he has his own buisness. I bet he could even sleep on a washingline. As for me I struggle to sleep.
