Sleeping 5 in a Cat 6....

Sounds like a song title, huh?

Seriously, we are going to be cruising with family in Mar '04. There are 16 people and 8 are adults and 8 kids. The current plan is to list two of the kids with the g'ma and g'pa and then we will all be in cabins listed as sleeping 4. However, I want my DD who will be 7, who is one of the ones who will be listed on the g'parents room to actually sleep in our cabin. We will have a three, almost 4 DS, and Ds 2 in a crib in our room already. Is it even physically possible to fit her in there? If the consensus says no way, we wll start saving all of our pennies--and any other money we can lay our hands on--to upgrade our cabin to a 4.

Those of you who have been in there--what do you think?

If you remove the coffee table (on the veranda?), you will have room for the crib (or pack n play). It will be tight, but possible.

I'd say that it's not going to be allowed. Since you'll need the top bunk pulled down as well, your host will know you have 5 in a room that sleeps 4. It could create a VERY sticky situation, in my opinion. Also, the rooms aren't that big at all, and I think it will be too tight a fit.

Since there are 4 of us, and 1 is going to be 22 months at that time and probably still in a crib, will Disney let us add 1 more adult to our room (we can then invite MIL to go along as well)?

Univfire - No you can't, DCL counts all people in a room, babies count towards occupancy limits. If you'd want to invite a 5th person, you'd either need connecting 2 connecting Cat 10 rooms or a Cat 4.

Well, dang! I had been told awhile ago that the cruiseline didn't care where people slept, they just had to have the registration numbers right to ensure the whole lifeboat/jacket availibility issue.

I REALLY don't want my 7 yo DD sleeping in the same cabin as her 12 yo step-cousin. Not only do I think it's inappropriate, I just am not real fond of the kid.

Now what? Anyone know where I could find out this answer for sure?

I would ask WebMaster Michelle directly because I remember an emergency medical situation on this board where a Mom was asking if any of this DIS members would be able list her daughter with them although the child would really be with her family for the entire voyage. If I remember correctly, DCL needed correct numbers for the guest rolls but that sleeping arrangements may be altered a bit.

I apologize, up front, if I am wrong but I think Michelle can answer the question for sure. I say go with your gut instincts and if you aren't comfortable, you wouldn't be relaxed at night worrying about DD.

If you are worried about your daughter, and afraid Disney won't allow you to all pile in(which I don't think they'd care about...as long as the 5th person was 'booked' into a room with space) you should just find the extra couple of hundred dollars and either get the category 4 or 2 category 10's, which would be less than the 4. Some things you just can't put a price on.

Julie, IMHO I say go for it. The crib will only be set up when it's being used, then it can be folded out of the way during the day. The cabin attendent will not care (he/she will set up the pull down bunk, just ask!)
Another option (maybe) is to put the two younger kids on the bottom bunk, and the oldest on the top. When my kids were little they LOVED sleeping together!
One night, our last cruise my DD put out the "Do Not Disturb" sign and as a result, the top bunk was not made up. Both DD9 and DS8 slept on the couch!!
Also, since we are used to a Queen bed, the King bed seemed so big! IF we had had a 2y/o with us I think we would have just put the baby in the King bed with us!

I don't know the answer to your problem, but for the record, I think when people say "Disney doesn't care where you sleep as long as you have the right number registered"...I think that is referring to the people who book 2 cabins (one for the kids) and one adult has to be booked in each cabin. When they get there, the adults sleep in one cabin and the kids in the other. In that case, they aren't putting more people in a cabin than it allows, just switching people around. Maybe that's where your confusion came from??

As long as you have no more than 4 people booked for the room, you can have all 3 of your children sleep with you. No problem! Just ask your stateroom host to make up both the sofa and the pull down bed. You won't be roomy, but they won't hassle you for it.

Keep in mind, too, that not all category 6 rooms have the top bunk. Some are designed to only hold 3 people and the crib.

I was told by DCL to put my ds(infant) in wth our friends for reservation purposes but he could sleep with us.I wound up not doing it because friends couldn't go but I can't see it being a problem.You could fit the crib in if you wanted but it will be tight.

That's correct. I called yesterday to find out prices for the Summer 2004 Western cruise. There will be 5 of us. Me, DH, my 6 year old twins and a 1-year old. You cannot sleep more than 4 people in a Category 6. Disney won't allow it. You have to either book 2 connecting cabins or a Category 4. The Category 4's are very expensive. It was about $2,000 more, compared to booking 2 Category 10 cabins.

The DCL rep. told me that when booking 2 cabins, 1 Adult has to be assigned to each cabin. They don't care where you sleep. Also the first 2 people in each cabin, regardless of age pays the full cruise price.

Okay, thanks for all the info everyone! I did call DCL today and yes, candyht is correct. While they don't care who sleeps where that only applies if you do not exceed the number that can legally sleep in that cabin. So, I have checked into it and the price difference is $400 more to do two category 10s and $800 more to do one category 4.(from cat. 6) Of course, we'll have to consider that it also means a different level of resort. What to do, what to do....

Our friends on a cruise listed 1 child in another cabin, then still had the child sleep with them. They had 5 people (3 kids ages 3, 4, & 5) in their room and did not have any problem with the the sleeping arrangements. I think 2 of them slept on the lower bunk and 1 at the top. Their stateroom host never said anything to them and in fact left 5 chocolates in the room each night.

Note: the child listed in the other cabin still had to go to the lifeboat drill with the cabin in which she was assigned.
