skymiles rant

No need to shout.

As an aside, I've found that low-point tickets from DTW to MCO using NW/CO/DL are just about impossible for what would be considered "busy" periods (mid-winter through mid-spring), especially on weekends, but often possible for "low" periods, and even on weekends. I would imagine the same is true for most northern cities.

I tend to use my miles on "what the heck" trips. If I'm taking a planned vacation, I often find it's a better deal to just buy the tickets I want. If I know I'm flying somewhere, I won't use miles unless I'm getting at least a penny per mile in value. I'm more willing to get "cheap" value for miles if it is a trip I wouldn't take without them.

To the OP:

If you consistently have miles to burn, your DH might want to look into a different rewards credit card. If a cash back card is not an option, then maybe a hotel card might provide rewards that are more valuable to you. For example, for charging 80,000 miles on Starwood Preferred Guest card, you can stay 10 nights at the Swan/Dolphin or for charging 140,000 miles on that card, you can stay there 10 nights and receive 100,000 FF miles as well.

Best of luck -- Suzanne
Thanks! we do have another card.. and we will be using Starwood(transfer points from AE to Starwood card) for when we go to Williamsburg,VA this summer!
that does sound like a deal- swan&dolphin! We are DVC members, so I wouldnt need it, but it sounds great!

I followed the recommendations that I've read in many places and listened to my travel agent and stayed up late last night. I called Delta at 12:01 a.m. last night, since we finally hit the 331 day mark and tried to book just the outgoing flight to Orlando from Hartford. They had no 25,000 pt. seats at all for my two preferred dates of travel. Any time I have EVER tried to redeem these points I've had zero luck with my dates--and I've been flexible and willing to fly mid-week. Bogus. I'm bummed...........

Oh no! Sorry!

I guess I should consider myself lucky. I was able to use Skymiles to book 2 tickets foir our F&W fest trip in October. Using a companion cert for the other couple we are traveling with. I was able to snag 4 round trip tickets from PHL to MCO for $441.00. :cool1:
