OK, so the Skyliner review is on a website that's apparently banned from Disboards. Sorry everybody!

the link doesn't work because its a site that is banned from the DIS boards.

Rob from Passport to the Parks rode it yesterday, accompanying (I think) a CM and her daughter. They rode all three branches. Someone on the disABILITIES forum linked the trip on the Skyliner thread, or it can be found on www.youtube.com.

eta: DIS has its own ride

I watched a few Skyliner videos last evening.

It looks like it zips around quite nicely and I think the heat factor so many were worrying about is a non-issue.

I also want that narration alert “ding” for a ringtone!

Hello everyone, I think this is my first post on the transportation board :)
Just came back from CM previews. We started our trip at Epcot, obviously no line as it was just CM and friends and family, we were able to have a gondola to ourselves, my DD19 and myself. We rode at 6:45pm, the entire system is very efficient. The gondolas are nice and quiet, there is a constant breeze while you are moving and although it won't be cool breeze in the heat of the day I believe it will still be comfortable
The ride from Epcot to CBR was 8 mins. we disembarked and took the line to AoA/Pop entire ride was 4 min. then went back to CBR and went from there to DHS, again the ride was 4 min. It never gets bouncy or swingy, very smooth
It will be very easy to bring a wheelchair or ecv as there is no step to load but they do have a stationary gondola waiting for guests who need time to get on and off board.
It loads 10 people per cabin or 5 plus wheelchair/ecv
you can bring food and drink
any questions I'll be more than happy to answer, just tag this post

Will the friendship boats still run between Epcot and the studios? Which is faster?(I’ve never timed the boat)
Seems like Xfer at CBR could take time if there’s a crowd lined up.

Yes, since the Skyliner doesn't actually stop at the Epcot resorts.

The Skyliner will definitely be faster than the boats when traveling all the way from Epcot to DHS. There's some debate on whether it will be faster than walking.

Will they let you take a Skyliner alone if you're by yourself, or if it's you and one other person? Or do they fill the cars up to capacity? I really don't want to be stuck riding those things with a bunch of people I don't know.

the actual ride time from Epcot to DHS is 15 min. like you say it will depend on how backed up the trasnfer is at CBR but no more than you usually having to wait for a boat. The boat from DHS to Epcot is about 20 to 25 min. Walking, at a steady pace is usually about 20 min

This is no different than any other transportation system, so they do try to fill the gondolas up to 10 guests. If they are very slow then you can request for a cabin for your own group

the Skyliner isn't direct transport between the two parks, so there's not really any reason for Disney to replace, or even reduce, the Friendship boats.

Any "delay" in the time would be attributed to the need to edit one gondola, then walk to and get in the line for the next trip.

At five minutes, the bus is still the fastest route between the two parks' front entrances. Delays there would depend on where you are in Epcot, and how well or poorly your arrival at th bus stop meshes with its arrival.

I am truly curious why. You ride the monorail with strangers; you ride the buses with strangers; you ride attractions and view shows, movies, and parades with strangers. Really, the only more of transportation that guarantees not riding with strangers is a car - either one's own, or a rental.

Anyone know where to download the Skyliner Chime as a Ringtone?
+1

As soon as I read MBG's post, I realized I wanted that Skyliner tone for my phone, too!! LOL!

And one reason I can think of not wanting to ride the Skyliner with strangers is that I'm afraid of heights. But I might screw up my courage to try this. I wouldn't want to get on board with people who felt like rocking it or jumping up and down in it or "testing the limits" while I'm on board.

There really isn’t room to jump or do anything but sit and enjoy the view. We rode with two other groups and we just talked about how cool it was that we were in the skyliner!

I know. I've been watching TONS of videos about it and am about to look at the threads to see how it did at Epcot closing time last night. I'm wondering how long the lines were.

I'm not really THAT worried about people jumping or rocking the Skyliner, but I could see that as being one worry about riding with strangers.

Rode it today from Hollywood Studios to Epcot and back again an hour later. The ride to Epcot I was with a lovely young couple from Ohio. On the way back I was with a group from the United Kingdom, they were a hoot. I normally don't like heights but it did not bother me. There is was a nice breeze even on a 90 degree day when it's moving. It stopped once on the way back for a few minutes but it was still comfortable. There also seemed to be quite a few vlogers wandering about describing what they saw in several languages apparently. Easy to spot with the high end cameras and mic covers. Probably be all over the internet by now.

Left epcot tonight after the last illuminations, needless to say it was very crowded.
The line for the skyliner went all the way past the temporary ticket windows, almost to the top of the hill that heads into boardwalk.
Not sure how long it took people, i was parked at BC

Our experience this past week was very positive. We did hear that it was out of service but we can ride the AofA bus to get us back to Studios. As mentioned many times, they stay cool when in motion. Those planning trips in late fall/winter might be chilly since there are vents at ankle level that appear to always remain open. The upper vents do close.

They do fill them up, but everyone had plenty of room on the one we were on. They were pleasant, comfortable, and fun to ride. I didn’t feel crowded against strangers during our rides in them.
