My son has been begging for the Skylander Giant game. We bought the original one in 2011 including most of the figures for Christmas and he beat the game in 2 months. Never again. We waited and I bought the giant on sale at WalMart using the Target sale flyer. Hoping to buy a few figures for him. All for his birthday in a few weeks. Love a deal.

Check with Toys R Us. They have a deal on the figures for (I think) $4.99. Also amazon has several for that price as well. Love skylanders!!!!

Right now Target has buy two get one free on video games, including SL figures.

Amazon. And if you have Amazon Prime membership you get free 2 day shipping. If you have a Discover card you get free 1 day shipping with code DISCOVER on most Skylanders orders (right now, at least).

Can I ask a dumb question? What the heck ARE Skylanders? My son keeps saying he wants some but I can't quite figure out the connection between the little guys, the cards and the video game. Can I just buy the guys or do I need a game too?

The little figures are used on a porthole in order to play the video game. My daughter has the first skylanders game and absolutely adores it! Her and my hubby play it together. Different figures have different powers that you use to try and "win" the game. Hope this helps!

It's a video game, you have to buy a starter set to get the portal and then you have to buy the figures too. And they need a figure for each land or else they can't enter it. And they *need* more figures to keep playing when one figure dies. I don't know how long it takes to reset since I don't play it but my boys always have a bunch of figures out when they are playing.

Thanks for the information everyone! I am sure this makes me sound cynical but it's crazy that the kids need both toys AND the video game to play. It's marketing and money-making genius!

Well, my son's birthday is coming up very soon so I guess I know what I need to be looking for. :)

It is marketing genius! Plus in order to complete certain areas you have to have a specific type of skylander. Luckily I think they are cool so I don't mind them.
