Skye on laptop

Has anyone used Skype from their laptop for calls back home.
Use it this way in the UK and presume I can do it from the states.
IF so what does the cost work out at?.
Used quite a bit last year on Wall mart top ups and looking to save a dollar!!!!!!!!!

We used it in August to get AS exam results from DS's college, as we had the credit we also rang relatives, IIRC made 11 calls, total cost 74p.
It costs 1.4p/min for calls or 5.6p per text.

We have used Skype a lot, not only while over there but also from this country to ring up for ADR's etc.
Price is very good and call quality excellent on most occasions, but I guess that will depend on where you are calling from. We have always stayed in a villa so have been the only ones on the network. If you are staying at a Disney hotel and sharing a network the quality probably won't be as good or reliable.

We found the equipment was more an issue than the connection. Tried on 3 HTC wildfire phones, useless. My netbook OK but not perfect. ipad2 perfect, as good as any landline call.
Maybe with a better connection then the lower standard of equipment would work better, I don't know.

Got it to work fine on both Iphones and Netbook with no problems.
Even used via webcam on netbook to show people back home, our room and balcony view at OKW but that was Skype to Skype (free)
I am still using credit put on 3 years ago. Just make a call within every 6 months or you will loose your credit. I just call my mobile, answer it then hang up.

we used it on the iphones we rented with no problem...DH was on skype pretty much day and night calling all corners of the world, mostly with excellent call quality..
