I had mentioned in another thread that I intended to wear a hiking skirt to disney world as a man, I got one comment (positive), the rest dealing with being to busy doing their own thing (fun, vacation, etc) to worry what others are doing or wearing. reasonable I think.
briefly:
I'm hetero, married (neither is going to change), started when I found a company(mountain hardwear) made a hiking kilt for men, quite comfortable and cool. Now I would like that comfort while "hiking" at disney. For clarification: all attire is male, including appropriate undergarments, no shaving legs, no make up. Just a dude in a skirt (knee length solid color).
What do you think?

:thumbsup2 I would take a second glance but that's it. I don't even know what I have on most days more or less someone else. Wear what you want.

Just don't be suprised if someone mistakes you for a CM and wants a picture with you and an autograph. :teeth:

a regular poster on this board always wears a kilt when at Disney.. and he looks GREAT!

I say "go for it".. he always gets lots of positive comments and no doubt he will answer this post himself!

I say if you feel comfortable in it, wear it!! :thumbsup2

If I were to second glance you it would only be to think 'gosh, that guy looks great in a kilt'. I love men in kilts

You won't be hiking up any mountains at Disney World, so if it's attention you crave I'm sure you'll get some.

I know men don't normally have to think about this this but just be sure to cross your legs when you sit down!

I like a man in a kilt, but I would question anyone -- man or woman -- who wears a skirt to WDW and their ability to keep everything hidden when getting on and off rides.

I got quite a few shows (unintended, I'm sure) last year when we were there. I'm willing to bet these people thought they were being careful, but I still got an eyeful. :rolleyes1

No kidding. I actually recently bought an amazingly comfortable skirt and was thinking about wearing it to WDW.

THEN I pictured myself trying to straddle my way out of the seat at Space Mountain and am now thinking twice about it :rotfl2:

I think I'll save it for a DTD night ;)

OK, reality check time...true most of the posters here, including myself, couldn't care less what you wear to Disney but don't be so naive as to think that there won't be some in attendance that are not that open minded.

If you are prepared for comments and or stares and or multiple other possibilities then by all means, do it. If you aren't then you might want to reconsider. There is more to life the mere physical comfort.

I've worn skirts to the parks. When I do wear a skirt, I put on a pair of shorts under it.

firedawg, if you were really 100% comfortable with the idea, I would imagine you wouldn't really need to ask for other people's opinions about it.

I'm going to wear a skirt at Disney, but I certainly don't need to ask other people what they think about that.

So if you're comfortable doing so, wear it. If not, don't wear it. I'm sure you might hear lots of 6 year olds say, "Mommy, why is that man wearing a skirt?"

I hate to say it, but.... aren't shorts just as comfy?

I have worn dresses and skirts many times at DL (must note that i am a woman though) and have always worn shorts under it, because of the obvious reasons (getting in and out ride vehicles, etc.)
Why I would wear a dress if I wear shorts (tight, short boxer shorts) under it? Because I LOVE to wear my red-with-white-dots-summer dress at Disney, it's just like Minnie's!

If you feel comfortable getting all the attention of about everyone you'll meet: wear them. If not, wear something else.
You can't deny it's "rebelling" and somehow "shocking" (don't have a better word for it, not that I would be "shocked", but I would think "did I see that right?"), so be prepared to get all sorts of remarks.

Quite actually, out of experience, I know a skirt is not at all more comfortable at Disney. But it gave me GREAT pictures with Mrs Mouse herself!

Many are going to stare many are going to make comments and i KNOW you must be going to wear something under it (this is a must at disney) so it would be just a comfortable as a nice loose pair of shorts.

I wear skirts everyday and when i go to disney i will be putting shorts on under them. I wear my skirt because of my beliefs but if your going to put shorts under or even mens underpants then the only reason i see you wear them is to make some sort of a statement or to get attention. Many will think the same and you will get stares and might even get comments. If that would make you uncomfortable i would say dont do it.

I personally dont like men in skirts and would take another look (maybe two :) ).

You should probably make sure that your wife is o.k. with all of the extra attention too. I must admit that I would not enjoy walking around anyplace with my dh in a skirt! :confused3

The only attire that bothers me at Disney is middle aged women wearing swimsuit tops around the park. (And yes, I am a slightly overweight middle age woman.. I would NOT go wandering around my local town dressed like this so why would I wander around Disney that way....)

The OPs outfit sounds good to me.

Diversity makes the world go 'round....some of the best looking and ultra masculine men have worn skirts/kilts Russell Crowe...Eric Bana....Orlando Bloom...Brad Pitt....Mel Gibson...Julius Caesar...so to me....it is not a big deal.

With that being said...if you are comfortable with it...do it. I think they are urban and modern.

My only concern for you....as I realize they are comfortable...just make sure they are practical (getting on and off rides) as other posts have indicated...it can be tricky. Being a woman, I wear skirts often.....and they are very comfortable...but could not picture myself getting in and out of most of the thrill rides in a skirt without having some modesty issues.

I honestly would not stare at a man in a hiking kilt....well because I thought it was "weird or "strange" I mean...after all....we put up with men in banana hammocks at the water parks...
