skirting in disney world

....some of the best looking and ultra masculine men have worn skirts/kilts Russell Crowe...Eric Bana....Orlando Bloom...Brad Pitt....Mel Gibson...Julius Caesar...so to me....it is not a big deal.

Hmm, I hate to bring it up, but... I will.

Russell Crowe, Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, Brad Pitt, and Mel Gibson all wore their skirts as costumes for epic movies, in which they starred as characters from many, many, many, many years ago. Julius Caesar's time. In a time when there were no shorts.

Also, it's not a kilt that the first poster wants to wear. It's just a plain skirt. Which could be quite pretty, or it could be quite.... ew.

Oh come on now Aussie...I know that...it is called a tongue and cheek comment. ;) Even though they were movie roles...they still wore them...and looked very nice I might add. I thought you would be a fan...since Russell, Eric and Mel are from down under. :goodvibes

Oh, I am!

I think I'd be slightly concerned though, if I saw one of them wandering around Disneyworld in a skirt.... ;)

I think kilts are awesome. :lovestruc If anything people will think you're from Scotland or something :rotfl: There's nothing wrong with it at all. Just... call it a kilt not a skirt. lol. :thumbsup2

A lot of men wear kilts so there's no real problem. Just realize that it might not be the most comfortable to be strapped into certain rides in!!! You've got the part between your legs sometimes and you'll have to hike it up... and the fabric will be there, etc. Just think about that before you wear it. You definatly want to be comfortable first and foremost so if this will be an issue it might not be worth it.

Just one more thing: to clarify, when I wear skirts in Disney I only wear short ones because of this and Im assuming your skirt is not short

Really...because I would be thrilled beyond belief to see Russell or Eric at WDW regardless if they were in skirts..! :woohoo:

If you had a European Carryall, it might be an issue...

Seriously, I would probably laugh if I saw you in it, but it would be a passing thing.

:clown: anyone else smell troll? I could swear I smell it around here... :clown:

No they don't. Not at Disney anyways. I have never, ever seen a man (guest) wearing a kilt in the park. Or a hiking skirt, whatever that is.

OMG - whether this is a real post or a troll I am absolutely shocked at how narrow minded some of you are!

If the guy wants to wear a kilt.. what is the problem!?

Men look great in Kilts and they look incredibly manly! Get real you lot, its not like he wants to walk around the park in a pink tutu!

No kidding. I actually recently bought an amazingly comfortable skirt and was thinking about wearing it to WDW.

THEN I pictured myself trying to straddle my way out of the seat at Space Mountain and am now thinking twice about it :rotfl2:

I think I'll save it for a DTD night ;)

ditto for me. personally i would never rate a skirt as more comfy than some nice roomy hiking shorts...why do you like it better? ( just curious)

however, if it's just a kilt, WDW is such an international crowd I don't know you'd get much more than a few brief glances...unless you wear it with a tube/bikini top..that might be a bit much :rotfl: ;) can you post a link to it... i thought i knew what you meant but now don't. isn't it like a pleated skirt kilt type thing? if that's what you are talking about i have seen a few of them worn but don't remember where(am guessing it was at WDW since my area is not exactly what you'd call cosmopolitan but it didn't really impress or shock me i guess) i do remember them to be 20 something guys , they looked fine but on a 60 yr old with a beer belly maybe not so much :teeth:

but really unless it looks "girly" who cares? it's not indecent, you'd be covered unless you aren't careful on the rides( and that can happen when men wear those jogging type short shorts( insert imaginary "barfing smilie" here)

I don't think anyone is being particularly narrow minded. But lets be practical about the idea.

A. A majority of women, who wear skirts daily, have said it isn't practical, and they either don't wear skirts, or they wear shorts underneath.
B. If a person doesn't wear it in daily life, it is likely they would be more comfortable wearing what they normally wear. The parks aren't some exotic locale.
C. Assuming he is not going commando, nothing's going to 'hang' any differently - skirt or shorts, so why the interest?
D. No male guests wear kilts/skirts around the parks. If it was such a good idea wouldn't more men do it? Obviously those crocs are ridiculous, but people seem to enjoy them, so they were them regardless of what they look like.

To sum up, wear it if you want, but don't plan on being congratulated on your sense of fashion.

Just incase anyone was curious as I was.. this is what a "hiking kilt" looks like:

http://www.mountainhardwear.com/Product.aspx?top=1&prod=39&cat=26&v iewAll=False

ok that is not what i've seen, they were more like a solid colored kilt with pleats( don't know what the back of the link looks like) sorry but that looks really uncomfortable and likely to blow open like a wrap skirt does which imo is a pain. but wear away if you want to( and still voting for the shorts as the winner in the comfort award :) )

People will look because it isn't something they see everyday in modern America. For some (I confess I am in this category) it will just be a benign and passing curiosity - "Hey... a guy in a skirt". For others it will be an opportunity to be obnoxious and make rude or stupid comments. I undeniably appreciate the freedom of expression and suggest you do what makes you comfortable. Just be prepared to ignore the jerks.

My brother has one and wears it all the time in the summer, however, he has never worn it to Disney. There should not be any problem with it. It will keep you cool all day.

Hey to each their own, but some customs are more widely accepted more places than others. For instance I think armpit hair on women is pretty gross, someone might think a skirt on a guy is sick. Both are very acceptable some places I'm sure.

You wear what you want. As long as the WDW folks don't get an eyeful, who cares?

I don't think I'd ever be shocked by clothing attire that I have witnessed at Disney. But, it's the folks wearing those clothes, that have to deal with it, not me. I'm sure some of my type of clothes have been talked about. I am not a slouch, but I make sure I am comfortable, so some may consider my clothing taste way our of their league ( or better or worse). But other than this trip, what are the chances I am going to see any of these folks again? So why should I care?

But, don't be surprised if it becomes a "Guess what I saw at Disney?" thread either.
