Skipping the bag check

DD and I always go through bag check, but my guys carry very little.

This thread is a little frightening when you think of everyone filling their pockets with who-knows-what and getting through the gates without being checked only because they have no bags... Don't get me wrong, I totally understand us guests (my guys wear the shorts/pants with large, multi-pockets); it's the WDW security that has me concerned. Hopefully there is much, much more security than meets the eye!!

during the day, we need at least one bag, with prescription sunglasses for us all,medications,money, keys,cards, ponchos, sunscreen, snacks etc.
dd likes to carry a small bag, even if it doesn't have much inside?!

so dh and ds love walking through the no bags section, but then don't get any further, because I have our kttw!

Your best bet to skip those lines if you have things that need a bag: have someone wear a jacket with plenty of pockets (I recommend zippered pockets if the jacket might get tossed around)

I was stopped last yr and asked what was in my jacket pockets. One was empty and the other had an crunched up empty plastic bag.

I too don't care for the posted sugggestions of how to beat the policies and rules that are in place you don't have to like it but it boils down to this It's private property when you come you agree to abide by certain rules to
suggest ways to hide a bag under clothing makes me think either one of two things you have something to hide or you are special and your time is more valuable than the rest of ours and pointing out a gate that you may or may not be able to sneak into and saying smugly its a hole in security....really .....are you that sure you are not on camera ? Are youthat sure you won't be getting a VIP backstage tour of the Security offiice where you won't meet Mickey but perhaps security investigators and a county deputy your very special kind of FP to a trespass charge mrsnwhile your family is upset and your prince and priness is in tears..yeag good times....good memories and for what ? trying beat the system ?

As I stated in a pp I am not giving in to the pro vs con debate & not stating my opinion about bag checks I also did not quote anyones post I won't get pulled into an argument Just think certain attitudes are despicable

Having seen the MK's operations command center.. (What? You thought you could ramble from a thousand miles away and have your "facts" and "authority" on the matter go unchallenged?)

They don't particularly care what's stuffed in your pockets. They are watching the front gates on camera, but only to see if the lines back up excessively. They're most certainly not monitoring behavior or actions aside from anything extremely out of the ordinary.

To clarify: You're a blurry dot on a tiny screen, and most of the time in the park you're on no screen at all. It's a myth that the whole park is monitored by anyone at any given time.

I have a jacket from ScottEVest - 20 pockets, can even fit an iPad! And it distributes the weight. They also have cargo pants, fleeces, mens or womens jackets & coats, with lots of pockets. They even tell you what the pockets are designed for! They can be a bit pricey, but you can get pretty good sales. (No, I'm not affiliated with them!) They're also great for flying - allows more to be carried on.

Larger deliveries are likely a concern. IMO I'm sure if they didn't do checks people would be concerned more and be worried about Park safety. I"m sure things will change in the future. My mom (70 yrs old) said the other day that maybe in the future they might not allow character dining in the castle similar to what has happened to the Statute of Liberty. I found it interesting she thought of this and without any discussion prior about security. Disney too will change.

Honestly, bag checks are a waste of time. If you really want to sneak something in to the park, its not hard. TDBIASWS.

We got back yesterday. At AK on Wednesday, the guy in front of me had a regular looking medium sized black backpack. He had it open ready. Security looked inside, nothing unusual, then he did the 'squeeze & feel'. There was a zipper around the base of the backpack (it wasn't obvious as it was seamed so the zipper was tucked away nicely) and voila! 3 screwdrivers Why would you bring those to the park. Maybe an innocent mistake but the guy was pretty mad when he was told they had to be left at the front gate and he could pick them up on the way out.

Maybe he'd left them in the backpack from the day before when he was at MK. Didn't I hear WDW has now secured the keys into the dog's mouth in Pirates of the Carabbean? Maybe he thought he needed a screwdriver to steal them.

incorrect it would have been confiscated & he was being told where to reclaim later there is asystem in place If this had happened at an airport he would not be given the option of reclaiming at a later time either WDW or the airport would now be alerted to this person
To that security CM I would say 'Great Job'

Obviously NO security system is 100% guaranteed things happen in life Every Sunday the news / talk shows give a recap of our troops lost the previous week and they have more sophisticated procedures I think about & pray all the time especially since mine is a military family Everyday tragic things happen look at that heartbreak in Connecticut That being said I don't understand the purpose of posting negative opinions or ways to get around the system Our world changed on 9/11 America woke up Disney Company put the bag inspection system into effect 9/12....the very next day ! thank you for doing something

So IMHO the statements are irresponsible and perhaps merely meant to bait someone into an argument there are other forums in the whole world wide web for that I don't think this is one of them but hey freedom of speech...which as I said my family and millions of others help protect

He didn't come by way of the airport, he came through the woods and swamps. He cleaned up in baylake and walk into the park with his screwdrivers. And by the way, no metal detectors, or pat down in place to get into any of the parks. Thus, he can start removing any of the screws in the park he wants to. So be careful if you set in a loose seat.TDBIASWS.

I'm not the only person who doesn't take liquids or anything i'm supposed to out of my bag and never been stopped. This convo came up the other day over lunch at DCA's Carthay. No one in the group complied with any of the bag check rules and no one was stopped - all different airports, all different flights.

THey were big screwdrivers, like 12" long. I don't see how he would have fit them in his pocket .... waistband yes but that could have been dangerous

I pack everything in my pockets that I need to take including a "swim/PE bag" they fold up almost flat, so you can put it in your pocket and when you get inside the park, you bust it out and put all your stuff in it! They work like back packs but they are lightweight, waterproof and foldable.

I have a different experience. TSA had to dispose of a bottle of sunscreen I packed at the last minute going to Cancun and forgot to switch to checked baggage. They found a can of diet dr pepper I left in my DVC bag. I planned n drinking it on the drive to the airport and forgot.

As for bag check being useless, on 11/26, the CM checking mine said she always thought they were bring overly cautious until they found 2 pistols and one knife earlier that day. One pistol belonged to an off duty officer so he just had to lock it in the lockers. She said the other two were escorted to an office but she didn't know what happened after that.

I'm sure for those who work in security are aware, it is less about what people are bringing into the parks, but more about how they ACT when being searched. Something as simple as a toothbrush can be used as a weapon. So much can be sewn into the lining of clothing. Having the bag check helps to increase that initial contact with security to identify someone who is acting out of the ordinary.

Color me confused as well, but to my knowledge, the Statue of Liberty hasn't ever offered character meals or anything similar...

Also, as PPs have said, I wouldn't get too worried about the bag check. Just make sure when you walk up that you have removed the bag from your shoulders/waist and have all compartments open. It is really a quick, painless process. Just don't put anything stupid in there and you'll be fine.

I carry a small purse that I wear across my body. I feel "naked" without some sort of purse attached to me. I carry the following: KTTW card, credit card, insurance ID card, driver's license, a little cash, camera, hand sanitizer (never know when you'll need that!), cell phone, park map. Other than to go through bag check, I never have to take it off. I can wear it on all of the rides and it takes 30 seconds to get through the bag check.
