Skipping lines...?

Fill in ALL available space! This is definitely the rule when waiting for shows. Waiting for Fear Factor at Universal, the CMs told us to fill in all available space before getting into the theatre, as the people in front were practically doing a single line. The dirty looks we got off them when we walked up next to them! If we had done what they were doing then there would be a massive line snaking out of that area.

But for regular lines - NO CUTTING. Luckily, we have never seen any major violations. I don't count 1 or 2 people coming past to join their family. I would prefer them not to do it, but two people don't bother me too much.

We encountered this in February while waiting in line for Forbidden Journey at Universal. We were in line and a family rushed passed us and got in front of us. I said, "excuse me, you just cut in front of an entire line" (we weren't the last ones). The father said to me, "well, were you taking a picture?" Um, no I wasn't taking a picture. The family then got in back of us - still cutting the line in front of the people who were originally behind us. He then says, "god forbid three people get in front of you". I responded "god forbid you wait your turn". If he had kept it up, I would have called security. He and his family may have made an honest mistake. The line was so long it was beyond the entrance of the attraction. Even so, once it's brought to your attention, I think the courteous response is to say, "I'm sorry. I didn't realize the line was back there." And then get your hiney to the end of the line. Instead we were met with complete belligerence. It was unbelievable.

I've been to WDW a kabillion times and I can honestly say that I have never noticed this to be a major problem in comparison to the number of threads and heated posts that get put up on this Board. Have I witnessed a couple of teens weaving their way through the line claiming that they were meeting up with their parents? Sure. Every single trip. Probably every single day of every single trip. But not in numbers that bother me.

That is because it is not a major problem. I've seen it happened once or twice in the last 5 years.

go potty BFORE you get in line. they all tell you how long it is , so no excuses there. and yes this includes the younger set. if there was an emergency then you find a CM who can issue you a slip to get back in to the line without having to start back at the beginning.

Try explaining that to a 2 yr old. I always check with my kids before waiting in line but sometimes it just happens.

I will usually let a few people know as I make my way out that I will be returning after the bathroom break.

Part of the problem are those that think its a single file line. CMs will tell you to squeeze in. If there's room in front of you, you should take it. Some parties line in in groups and leave lots of space between. If peOpel would squeeze in, the lines would be shorter. The wait will be the same, but more people can enjoy the shade and/or AC.
I'm not squeezing anywhere. I like my personal space (within reason) and I'm not standing up against someone else's back, nor do I enjoy having someone else standing up against my back unless I gave birth to you or married you...yeah, Brazilian tour group, I'm looking at you. GET OUT OF MY SPACE!

I had numerous issues in August last year, with no real problems prior to that and no problems in the 2 trips since. Maybe it was the heat as it really wasn't just the crowds as we always visit at New Years!

On one particular day we had a family make their way past the entire line at Dumbo to the front and load without a word, we (the folks in front an behind us) were just like, what just happened... and no none of us were playing the games.

A few other minor issues that day including at Star Tours and then finally at Toy Story Mania after the frozen fireworks. Several groups of 2 just made their way past the line on the right hand side - one parent one kid each, excusing themselves. Finally myself and a dad behind me called out a few of them and the proceeded to ask us if we were in grade school and going to tell the teacher?

Unfortunately the CM I spoke with after we rode said I would be escorted out of the park if I was to call out a line skipper as I would be "engaging another guest in a confrontational way". A very disappointing response!

I haven't had too much trouble with people cutting in front of me. I've had way too much trouble with people trying to walk THROUGH me. Like I get it's close quarters, but stop touching me. No me toques!

I have dealt with that in the past. I don't hesitate in asking what's going on. If they are trying to catch up with their party, no problem. If they are trying to cut in line? Not on my watch. If they start an argument with me? Hello CM!
I think that i would use my size to deter cutting in, but your attitude needs to be adopted by everyone, including me.

I don't even understand the "catching up to my party" thing. Any time we've had stragglers, we allow others in line to pass us until the late party member catches up.

Love a good line cutting thread. I've been back on the DIS for a few months and haven't seen one - was starting to get worried that FP+ had fixed all the problems.

I'm ok with one adult taking a little one to the potty and coming back. That's about it for my tolerance level. If you're alone or over 13, expect me to block your way and wait for you to explain yourself.
Hallelujah to that :worship: there haven't been any line cutting threads because of the never-ending stream FP+ threads :headache: .
My tolerance level is the same as yours, emergency potty breaks for little ones only. Outside of that everyone in your party should get in line and stay in line together!

In the forbidden journey this is encouraged, because of the lockers. When we were there this past trip, they would only let one member of the party into the locker area so we gave DH all our stuff. We were going to wait for him, but the employee told us to keep walking and he will join us later. This ride is just poorly plan, but we didn't really encountered line cutting anywhere else. Holding a place in line is cutting line. Of course if a little kid needs to go to the restroom then is ok. I heard CM multiple times saying make sure all you party is together when getting in line.

They did this at the new Gringotts ride too. I don't mind since it's usually in the morning when they're just trying to keep the line moving before it spills out of the queue and to kedp the entrance and locker areas clear. Also, it's the same policy for everyone so not really cutting.

I've seen it a lot (at Universal too) and they usually say they are trying to catch up with someone who is already in the line. as noted at Universal they tell you to go ahead rather than wait for someone who had to use a locker.

You're supposed to fill in the space at the Haunted Mansion. It's not a single file line. People seem to get something up their nose when you actually do what the CMs said to do.

Funny story from a few years back:

I got in line for the Ariel meet and greet and Adventureland by myself. Since she wasn't there yet, my wife and kids went over to meet Jasmine and Aladdin.

So, as of now, I'm the spot-holding jerk :) But wait. There's more.

A few people line up behind me, but not very many. Kristin and the kids come back and join me. No big deal. However, she's with some other guy I've never seen before. The two of them are talking like they're best friends. Since her talking like that to complete strangers is a common occurrence, I think nothing of it. I'm assuming she knows him from somewhere else, though, since he joins us in line.

We all have a great conversation. During the talk, we mention how we basically had to run at rope drop to get a good spot in line to meet Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, to which he replies, "lines aren't a problem for me."

As our turn approaches, he actually goes up to Ariel and Prince Eric BEFORE us, and proceeds to hog at least 10 minutes of their time. I couldn't tell you how many photos he requested. At one point, Ariel actually came over to us and started talking to our daughter as he was getting photographed with Prince Eric, making it pretty obvious they were getting tired of this guy as well.

He finally left, and we never saw him again. I'm assuming his lack of concern for the long lines is because he knows how to talk his way to the front of them. I was both mad that he did this and impressed that he was actually able to pull it off, and seemed to be able to do that consistently ;)

We were there at RD and we didn't encountered that at the escape of gringotts, but I can see that happening because how bad the whole locker situation is planned.

I was just about to comment about Forbidden Journey. The locker situation there is really a nightmare. I was the lucky one to put all of our bags in a locker while the rest of my party went on to the line. Every locker was full and it was wall to wall people in that tiny room waiting to pounce on the next available locker. So needless to say it was not a great experience trying to find my family in line and the looks I got when "skipping" people.

I also noticed a ton of people in the line with bags that didn't go to a locker and of course they were stopped right before the ride loads and told they had to go put their bag up. So that was a little fun to see their reaction. I don't know why there wasn't a CM that stopped them before getting into the line with a huge backpack.

Hello! I'm not quite sure if this is the correct board to ask about this, but I really wanted to get you guys' input on this.

I just came back from a week-long trip to Orlando, spending much of my time at Universal, but also hit up Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom as an extra bit of fun. Well, here's something that I've noticed: for some reason or another, individuals feel the need to push themselves past lines. All the time. And I'm not talking about FastPass or someone with a disability or anything like that. People will just squeeze past other people in the Standby line. To make this more frustrating, the most common attractions I've witnessed this at were Forbidden Journey and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, both of which usually command a pretty insane wait time by themselves.

My question is this - is there any valid or legitimate reason to do this? Because it seems to me that just breaking line for the sake of getting to the rides faster is super unfair to everyone else, and I'm not really sure why we as guests, or even Cast/Team Members, let people get away with it.

Personally, I would like to see a system similar to what Six Flags (Over Georgia, at least) set up where they have a phone number to park security for people who try to "cheat the system" as it were... but that'd just be my solution.

What I have found is that in the more "loose" wide lines, especially around corners, people tend to "fill in the space" by passing people who were clearly ahead of them. It's easier to do in those big lines without being noticed ( Oh WE see you.... we... see... you... >:( ).
