Skipper Canteen "push"

They have us line up our dining 180 days in advance (or else) & then wonder why nobody is willing to take a chance on a walk-up...

The menu looks interesting to me & I would love to try it, but not at the expense of a two hour wait that could cut into the FP+ times that they had us schedule two months prior.

You can't have it both ways. Allow people to make ADRs & I bet attendance will increase.

Given that it's not filled to capacity, do you think it would be frowned upon to just grab apps or desert there (with adequate gratuity)? I don't plan to (or want to) leave time/meals/funds to eat a whole meal there, but I wouldn't mind checking it out.

We got desserts and drinks. Tried three different desserts and both drinks in the mule mug. No problem at all.

I love that there is a restaurant that I can just walk up to and don't have to plan 180 days out!! I just left a slot in our plans for the day and it wasn't an issue.

We ate there twice during the holidays. I loved the food both times, but it is a little overpriced. On our first visit we walked right up and were seated. On our second visit we waited about 20 minutes. We had waited 45 minutes for our ADR at Liberty Tree the day before, so I was thrilled with a 20 minute wait during the busiest season of the year.

I really enjoyed the bread & honey before the meal. I had the mac & cheese both times, because I enjoyed it so much the first time:) I had the kungaloosh dessert twice, too, but noticed the second time our serving was much smaller. We had a great server on our first visit which made the whole experience so much fun. On our second visit, we had a server who didn't really care to get into the theme, which took all of the fun out of it. We will definitely go back again, but we will ask for a server who likes the play up the part. The cast members playing along with theme is what makes these themed restaurants special and worth the extra money. I don't mind paying a few extra dollars if they make the experience fun and entertaining. I am a Disney purist at heart, and in the minority on this subject, but I am glad there is no alcohol served because that is the way Walt wanted it. It is just my opinion, please be kind:)

They need to get it added to the ADR system. I think the menu looks good and I really want to try it, but not at the risk of not being seated or having to pay a no show fee at another restaurant.

I kind of like the fact you don't have to have an ADR for it, we are not an ADR type of family. We like to fly by the seats of our pants, make FP the night before and if we make ADRs it day of. We've never had any problems doing it this way.

There's honestly not a lot on the menu that appeals to me. ADR or no, I don't see myself bothering to go.

Ditto.

Instead of pan-Asian/American-ish I wish they would have gone more surf & turf, with some more exotic meats or something. We have a local park near us that serves "alligator bites" - I expected something like that!

I still haven't been able to figure out why they don't accept ADRs. I wonder if a lot of guests are reluctant to give up a sure ADR time ( relative, to be sure), for a possibly longer, uncertain seating time at Skippers. Personally, I'm looking forward to trying it on our next visit

that's exactly what it is for us.

There is just about no way this is not a factor. Combined with other things.

I like that it's walk up too. I made it work. But the fact is, the majority will not. The numbers that will try a walk up here is small. At least right now. Maybe as word spreads but I'm not sure they can survive that long

I had been anticipating it opening but now the menu isn't something that I see our group wanting, at least not enough to give up BOG, Ohana, or Chef Mickey's for it. We are also on the DDP. I'm not going to risk not getting in to the restaurant and having some TS credits that I then don't know what to do with. It's much better to have the ADRs. And since we can't same day cancel without paying the $10 pp fee, that's not going to work either. I think they will do better with making it available for ADRs.

Sooo... for those who are saying the menu isn't appealing. Is it because the food is too out there or is it too normal?

I agree with others that have expressed the 180 days out conundrum. You can't encourage your guests to plan so far ahead and then spring a 'walk up only' restaurant and expect to see big crowds flocking. Now that they've had their 'break in' period, it's time to open up the ADRs and go from there.

I love having a walk-up option. Things have gotten so crazy with the scheduling requirement to eat!

It is really too bad it is a little too expensive. If they could just lower the price about 10%, I think they would help fill the restaurant.

I think the kungaloosh sounds great, and want to try it. Disappointed the second time serving was much smaller, as that would seem to indicate it is server discretion. I hadn't realized servers have that much variable/options/control over our food. I thought that all pretty much came from the kitchen complete.

I agree the server can make such a difference in the dining experience at a themed restaurant, and is what makes me want to dine at them. They can make it special and fun.

I also agree with this. I'm a bit of a picky eater and there isn't anything on the menu I would like. I was excited for a new restaurant at MK but I'm really disappointed in the offerings. Was hoping for more normal (or at least a few normal) items.

I will eat just about anything and was very excited.

Honestly I look at all that brown food and think bland and then the ones spiced are with items I don't like, curry, ginger ....

Also sides on expensive plates are blobs of rice, a couple stalks of chinese broccoli, yucca....

Price point is high, especially if they won't take TiW.
$19 for small mac and cheese with hamburger when I can go to HOB for larger delicious Lobster Mac and Cheese for only $22. Tofu soup $20!?!

Honestly I think they had the opportunity to be creative, appealing and colorful. I wanted to be so excited about the menu and I'm not.
