well, we're doing both--on the same day no less, due to a weird schedule. I know I will be really hungry b/c it is the day after the marathon  and I always eat, ahem, heartily on the day after.

If food is the priority, Skipper Canteen.

If characters are the priority, Mickey.

For a similar spend, the food and beverage offering at Skipper will blow away Mickey. (SC may end up cheaper, but I've not seen the new beer costs there.)

We are doing other Character meals, so it's not a priority at all, it's mainly just trying to convince myself that we don't need to eat there every.single.time we go just because we are staying there! LOL

I would do neither, if SC involved travel. I'd do the Wave if you wanted to "pop down" somewhere and have good food.

We already have the WAVE and Cali Grill on our plan :)

Skipper Canteen. No contest. It's not even close.

You asked for "Help". So here's my opinion:

Skipper offers good food and adventurous flavors. Skipper let's you try something different, especially on vacation. Skipper is a unique atmosphere and warm, casual and relaxing environment.

Chef Mickey is an all you can eat buffet of cafeteria quality with noisy, unruly kids, food on the floor, characters interrupting the meal in a cold, institutional atmosphere.

This seems like a choice you should easily be able to make based on the menu alone. Will your kids be adventurous and try some of the adult entrees? Have you looked at the menu? Do you see food you and your spouse would enjoy? This isn't apples and oranges. This is chicken nuggets vs. char sui pork. Best of luck.

Husband and kids all eat anything and everything and never off the kids menu for the kids. They have eaten around the world (In WDW and literally around the world! LOL)...I guess we are a family of eating whatever we are offered! LOL! Thanks!!

Thanks everyone for the opinions!!! We are going to go with Skipper's Canteen. For us travel does not matter as we usually hit up 3 parks each day, so we like to be on the move no matter what :) Thanks again!!

I voted Chef Mickey's, not because of the food, but because of tradition. That is exactly the reason we are eating there in July. My kids will be 12 and 15 and they are insistent that we must follow tradition. So we are compromising and doing breakfast instead. The thought of dinner there does nothing for us but we can manage with breakfast. And we do love the experience there. Once we have missed it, we've broken the tradition, and we just can't have that. :)

Hahha, this is exactly how the husband and kids are feeling about it!! Sometimes I wish I had the type of husband and kids that just showed up for the vacation and didn't want to be involved in the planning of it! HAHAHA!!

Eating at SC for the first time on our next trip in early Feb. What are people saying is the best thing on the menu?
I really haven't seen any universally bad reviews about any item. We had the fried chicken, char sui pork, curry stew (plus chicken), dumplings, and steak salad, and other than the salad (it was fine--just a salad), it was all very good. (The coconut rice was delicious!) I don't do head-on foods LOL but I think you'll be happy with whatever you order!

Good call picking SC, going somewhere simply for the sake of tradition is no fun if you are missing out on something new you want to try!
