Skipper Canteen ADR Watch

Since this is supposedly a "test" period, I took the opportunity to email Disney that I prefer making an ADR and am disappointed I cannot. I pointed out that I am staying CL for my next trip, and one of the big perks is having ADRs made for me. Of course my one email is not going to do much, but it felt good to let them know!
 
How long do you have to get back to SC once you receive the text? What if you are in the standby line for an attraction in Tomorrowland when you get the text?

Or if you're inside of an attraction like POC or something where you may not get a signal….
 
Today for the first time Skipper Canteen shows up in the app for reservations in the MK. Says there aren't any times available, but it was not even showing up as an option yesterday.

It showed up on the reservations page when it was initially loaded into the system, too, but was then moved the next day.

It didn't show up in the app when you searched for an ADR before you had to search at the top for "skipper" Now it actually is listed when you select magic kingdom but shows as no availability. So i think its a little different than before. Still fingers crossed for ADR's in mid january.
 
Just had the BEST meal at the Skipper Canteen yesterday!! We walked right up and had no wait! We had a great skipper, Morgan, who even sang happy birthday to my daughter! We had the pork chops and Mac & Cheese. The bread and honey before the meal were wonderful, too. We shared some kongaloosh for dessert....absolutely amazing!! Such a fun and tasty experience....this may become our regular dining spot at the Magic Kingdom! i love that you DON'T have to have an ADR and can just walk up. It was nice not having to plan my day around a dining reservation. We will definitely be back!
 
I bet it will be packed though for our upcoming trip. We will be in MK on NYE. I have an ADR for lunch at LTT, and I don't want to give that up for a chance to eat at SC. Since we will probably be hunkered down somewhere in our spot for fireworks at dinner time, I thought we'd just send one adult and a kid to bring back a quick bite while the others save our place. I am going back for the Dark Side half weekend, so I am hoping that they have all this business straightened out by then.

I forgot about the apps. Who knows what data needs to be updated to reflect a new restaurant in the various apps? I noticed that this morning the website is showing the restaurant with no operating hours for the days of our upcoming vacation in April. I'm pretty sure this doesn't mean the restaurant is planned to be closed but just that they aren't prepared to make the hours available yet, or haven't had a chance to update the data for those days yet.

Listing the operating hours at the very least would be most helpful!!! I want to know when they close (take the last res) in the evenings!!!

Hours are listed for the dates i wanted in January. It showed 11-9:30pm on jan 17th

Thanks - when I looked 2 days ago there was no real information available at all. No hours. No menu. Nothing. More inconsistencies with the website I guess?!

Ugh, my 180+10 window opens at 3 am tomorrow morning... if I'm getting up that early, I was hoping I could at least book this! Now I'll have to stalk the website every hour of every day until they're open. Sigh...

Watch, the same thing will happen with our Frozen-Malestrom-Replacement-Ride FPs in April...

This is what I was getting at. Before it showed up in the available list of restaurants if you searched for it, but did not come up in the list when you tried to search reservations in the MK on the app. Now it shows up when you search for reservations, but just no availability. I'd bet the "walk up only" lasts like 90 days or less. Obviously I have no knowledge of anything, but I'd just be willing to bet. Especially with a restaurant with such a strange menu, once the newness wears off the menu won't appeal to a ton of people. Good for me :)

I was able to help out a person in my WFJC Skippers group who is headed out to WDW in January. She's super excited to take her family to the Skipper's Canteen.
 
Figured I'd report how it worked for us.
We decided to give it a try on Sunday (12/20)
About 6:00 we walked up and asked about the wait (for 4)
They told us about 15-20 min so we gave them our number to text (by the way, most places are using the text feature now, even with an ADR. they text you when it's time to be seated, instead of giving you a beeper)
They told us to remain near by (so I don't think they suggest you head off to Tomorrow Land)
DH and DGD went to ride Magic Carpets
DD and I sat in the entry area.
5 min later they called our name to be seated. Thank goodness we stayed in the area
DD went to get DH and DGD, I went to sit down, they came in a few minutes later
20 min later I got a text from DH that he had gotten a text to be seated. This is going to be where issue arise. WiFi and Cell signal was very sluggish during our trip. I kept WiFi off most of the time, it was so bad. But our texts were often 10-15 min delayed in sending. I'm not sure how they'll handle it when there are delays in sending your text and you receiving your text
 
Yes, unfortunately Disney is making assumptions about what technology everyone will have with them. The folks that don't have a device to access the app in the park for example are at a disadvantage, so I would be curious to see what they would do dining wise for people who can't receive text messages.

You stay there and wait for them to call you. That's what we did at Yak and Yeti. Could you explain the 'disadvantage'? You still get to eat there.


The same aplies to me. Since I am from abroad (Europe) and I am not willing to buy a US-SIM-Card for my cell phone for a week of stay.... And there are more than just one international group at WDW. I really hope they have some kind of pager or other methods of notification.

Agree - they need to pick one-way or the other. (For me, going back in the time machine to the old FP system would be JUST FINE.)
