Have rented points 2 yrs in a row and we really want to buy into DVC. Have been hesitant about it due to "another monthly payment to make" and having to save for college and all.

We were fortunate enough to have a wonderful 2 week stay at WDW last year and I am thinking of (God forbid) skipping this year and applying that money to our DVC purchace to get the ball rolling.

Has anybody else done this? Did it help? Any advice on how you made it happen would be appreciated. :wave2:

I have to say I was fortunate enough to have Gram save our DVC buy-in plan - almost fell through! Here's some food for thought...

1.) We sold back our first year's Points to Disney to get a little off the price.

2.) We rented out our first year's Points to help make ends meet.

3.) Perhaps this year's trip could be significantly downsized - that way you don't have to cancel all together, just sacrifice a bit for a greater good later! Try All Stars, Port Orleans, etc. Maybe skip the normal Disney "extras," and/or cut down your days in the parks. Look for all the inexpensive fun things you could do there - even touring other resorts can be a blast, and that doesn't cost you a thing!

Good luck!

I think ArRzrBk has some wonderful suggestions. Don't forget that you should not purchase something you cannot afford. Renting out the points is a very good idea to help fund the purchase post purchase. If you do the financing through DVC it is not to painful. Start with 150 points and then work from there.

I agree with Yensid - don't buy unless you can afford it. But if you're sure you want to go to WDW (at least) yearly, I think it's definately worth it. It's more in the near term, but pays off long term. Be careful with buying through Disney and financing - you'll be paying SO much more.
