Skiing Question

I'm going to say right off the bat that this isn't a Disney question... Does anyone have any recommendations for ski mountains out west which are good for families/beginning skiers and aren't an insane fortune? I'm aware of a handful (Park City, Beaver Creek) but they are INSANELY expensive. I know that skiing is never really a budget vacation, but I'm curious to hear if anyone has a way to do it that is less expensive.

The cheapest place that I know of is is Sipapu ski resort in New Mexico. It is between Santa Fe and Taos. Lodging is very reasonable, but often sold out. They have lots of specials for even lower or free lift tickets.

Try Mammoth or June Mountains in the California Sierras!

I like Breckenridge, Copper Mountain and Keystone in Colorado.
Copper usually has entertainment coupons.

Are you looking for this ski season or next? Here in CO, many of our resorts will starting winding down in the next month or so, and the conditions are definitely 'spring skiing'. For families, I like Granby, Winter Park and Keystone. However, only Granby is really lower priced.

up here in BC Canada we are getting a lot of Americans visiting with the exchange rate being some favorable...last weekend I went up the chairs with groups from Texas, Califorina, Nevada, and lots from Seattle

I prefer Keystone in CO for family skiing (I actually learned to ski there many, many years ago...) - but it really isn't what I would call low budget.

Following this thread since i am planning a skiing trip to colorado for Christmas/newyear.
I found a German/austria resort that gives access to certain colorado ski resorts that im going to look into for next ski season.

My daughter went to Brian's Head in Utah recently. Can rent a cabin reasonably. 4 hour drive up from Las Vegas.

Donner Ski Ranch in CA Sierras...small and cheap. Bear Valley is also small and cheap-ish if you rent a house in nearby Arnold. In CO, try Arapahoe Basin.

We gave up skiing because of the absurd costs coupled with the no snow for the last 4 years.

Brian Head is our favorite ski resort. They have two mountains, one is easy and family friendly. We just let the kids go. The other has more challenging terrain if you want more.

I just saw somethong online for Whitefish, MT. Book a room and get 2 free lift tickets. Forget where I saw it tho, sorry.
There were good deals a while back for Whitefish so it looks like there are still deals as the ski season nears an end. They are likely hurting with the lack of Canadians this year.

We just got back from Utah. Went to Brighton and Solitude. Very quiet and lift tickets were cheap. Never had to wait for a lift which was amazing. There is not a lot of lodging and night life but we rented a large home with 2 other couples and had a great time. Not very far from Park city and Salt lake city

It was most of the resorts in California due to the drought that lasted about 4 years. This was the first big snow year we have had in years.

Likely due to the poor dollar exchange rate. I know lots of people, myself included, who are not going to the States as much because of our low dollar. Shame too as we are only 5 hours from Whitefish area.

We love Crested Butte in Colorado.
