Size of the sleeping/living area of a room

There are many threads on the boards regarding room sizes. It is helpful to know square footage but what may be more useful is how much of that footage is devoted to the sleeping/living area.

I’ve read reports of some rooms where there are long hallways that lead from the entrance to the room to the sleeping area. That is probably not functional space, although I suppose you could store luggage along the side walls.

Does anyone know of the accurate square footage of the living/sleeping areas of the rooms at various resorts? Alternatively, can anyone share anecdotal information about the size/space of the living/sleeping area of various rooms? I am looking for info on regular rooms and DVC.

As for bathrooms, for me a bathroom just needs to function. I prefer a sink outside the toilet/shower area and prefer 2 sinks to one and decent counter space. But that is not as important as the living area.

Note – this is research for a future trip likely to be taken by 3 women sharing a room.

Thanks!

As an architect, I can tell you many people cannot even read a floor plan, let alone understand the difference between usable space and unusable space, because everyone "unconsciously" uses it differently.

I have often posted that I stayed adults in POR standard room and 3 adults in a studio at SSR. I felt more comfortable at POR because we utilized the space better because we were organized. In the studio, everyone else left suitcases on the floor, stuff everywhere, etc. The space was taken up by what I felt was wasted space (large entry, large sink area with just one sink, etc), but we could have kept it neater and it would not be an issue.

So it becomes a moot point to show the space because everyone uses it differently or has less or the same amount of occupancy for the space.

**************.net has tons of information and charts that I found very informative (I'm a geek and like stuff like this!).

The first chart shows you the total square footage of the room and also a breakdown of "living space" and rest of the room (hallways, bathrooms, closets, etc).
