This is my very first post even though I've been enjoying reading them for more than a year. Our family of five is travelling for the first time to Disneyland. We have been numerous times to the World but need help in deciding how many days to spend there. We have seven to play in Southern California. I am not sure about the city pass. I am worried that 3 days in DL wouldn't be enough. I would like to spend a day or two at the beach. Which beach? Any good condos? I would like to ride the train that goes into the redwoods. What is it called and where do I get on? Sorry for so many questions but we are so excited. I am leaving all my Dworld experiences at the door.

The train is called "The Skunk Train" and it runs from Fort Bragg to Willits.

Here is their website:

It has an "outdoor" car to ride in also, this way you get to smell the redwood forest first hand.

I thought it was just north of Santa Monica/Santa Cruz. I remember reading it was $20 a person and about a three hour ride. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

You're probably thinking of this one: http://www.roaringcamp.com
It's just north of Santa Cruz, but that's a 5-6 hour drive north of Santa Monica, quite far from SoCal. No redwoods in SoCal that I can think of. Plenty of other stuff to do though.

I'd say 3 days at DL is plenty, particularly if you're familiar with WDW. If it were all new that would be a different story.

As stated the redwoods are several hours away, by car. The closest would be outside of Fresno at the sequias national park, but there is no train there.

as for how many days you need in DL and DCA, that all depends on what you like to do, if you just want to comando the rides, you could probably do it in 2 days, if you like a leasurely stroll, and taking in the sites and sounds and shows, 3 days most definately will not be enough. In my case, there is never enough time, but luckily I live fairly close and can go a fair bit.

As for beaches, to me the southern beaches are better, like south meaning south of longbeach.

I did the City Pass last year, and it was nice to go to Universal, and the zoo and Sea World were also very very nice. But I wouldn't want to drive back and forth every day, so if you do that, spend a night in San Diego...

San Clemente, Santa Monica, Huntington, are all cool beaches

How does one post a picture? I've tried to copy and paste from "My Pictures" but it won't let me. How do you do it?

so first off you must have 10 posts on the board.

Then you need a photo hosting site, free ones can be had at photobucket or flicker. there are also paid sites Like I use, which is smug mug.

You then upload your picture to your hosting site. And then link back to the place where your picture is....

So it would be like this

If you use the forum drop down box, toward the bottom third is our "technical Help" board. They have helped countless posters learn to post photos!

I vote at least 4 days in the parks, one beach day.

If you want, I can host your pictures for you in an online album.

Send them to me at Jamesahl@gmail.com

Then I will send you the link like the one below in my sig to show off your photos to friends or family.

If anyone needs their photos hosted, I can do it for them as well. I have 100GB of storage online.

I think I agree with the four days....which would be better....cast your votes:

1. Stay at Disneyland Hotel for the stay three get one free and just do Disneyland and the beach/hollywood stuff (then pack it up for the last three days)or

2. Do the city pass and stay off property like Best Western Park Place Inn. I need a place that can hold five of us. Then do all what the city pass has to offer. Is there a better option for five of us off the property? We usually stay at Port Orleans Riverside at Disneyworld.

the question is do you want to experience southern california, or experience all that Disneyland has to offer?

Personally I would do the 4 days at Disneyland, but I live in CA so if I want to do San Diego, I can do that realitively easy.

Definitely stay at DLH. It's a great place--great quick walk through DTD to the parks. Plenty room for five. DTD is most excellent, BTW.
We were in DL our first time for five nights/six days--could've stayed longer, and all we visited was DL!
Have a great trip! :)

Hmmm. I have tried over and over to do that with smugmug and it never works for me. I always get a box with a broken link. So I took your link and pasted it into a test message and it worked. Then I took my smug mug pic link and pasted it in and it still doesn't work. Looks like I will have to take Judy's advice and get Help.
