Personally I "think" its a no brainer but we have the opportunity to go with J.C.'s church youth group to St. Louis to Six Flags and Hurricane Harbor and the St. Louis Zoo at the end of the month for 4 days.

Or we could save that money, but it away and make ressies for Disney in December or early January for a week.

None of us have ever been to Six Flags in St. Louis so don't know how it rates. So, I need advice on Six Flags and the St. Louis area in late July, crowd, weather, rides, etc.

Thanks :sunny:

come on now, you know this isnt worthy of bandwith :teeth:

It's not really a fair comparison ;) , but the zoo is really nice and Six Flags is fun. I have never been to Hurricane Harbor. Weather in July will probably be hot with long lines.

Who am I kidding?

WDW in December is the way to go. :)

 You have to ask!
Disney of course. :D

Come on, you can't ride Mr. Freeze at Disney! :)

Actually, about half the coasters at Six Flags St. Louis are rough, so it might not be worth your while to do. Hey, save up your money for a Branson trip and go to Silver Dollar City and Celebration City!

Branson isn't far from me! I've never heard of Celebration City before Barry, I'll have to look it up!

finally a question comes up that i know the answer to.
i lived near there for some years and even though i am 350 miles north of it now, i still make two trips a year to do that park.

july : are you sure that's the month you want to go????
it is hot and humid , the armpit of the midwest.
the water park will be packed.

i usually stay at the cheaper hotels in eureka, blocks from the park, have the annual pass and don't spend that much money.
tickets are cheaper at that park than the great america one.

the local grocery stores sell admission tickets cheaper than the park does. if you can do the visit for a couple of days and keep it under 300 for 4 people, i say go for it. but july will be hot......................
raven:bounce:

You know Brenda we have a trip for Dollywood and that area planned for September :wave2:

Oh Beauty.....They say December at Disney is suppose to be just marvelous! (that's what I've been told and that's why I'm goin' then too!!) No lines, great weather, MVMCP, Osborne Lights, Candlelight Procession, all those special decorations and tons of DIS meets! ::yes::, it's a no brainer, join the December Disney Doers!

I'm going to agree with Macraven. You really do not want to be in STL in the summer. The heat and humidity are HORRIBLE. Our zoo is great. Six Flags is not. We have two good (steel) roller coasters. Some wooden roller coaster enthusiasts will say differently though. I find the two wooden coasters to be VERY jerky and painful (and I LOVE roller coasters). And it's really expensive now because the waterpark is included in the price of the park admission. I wouldn't waste disney money (or any money) on a trip to Six Flags STL. It's fine for a day trip, if you've got nothing else to do. But, otherwise, no.

I have season passes to Six Flags & have STILL not been to Hurricane Harbor.

Now I would like to say that St. Louis Forest Park has alot to offer for FREE! I have been going there all week & will be there next week too.
My dd is taking a class on the University City Loop and I have 2 1/2 hrs to find something to do.
There is more than the zoo. Alot more! Check it out.

I have just been to Branson and now THAT was alot of fun! I want to go back there for Christmas. Very relaxing.

However if given the choice I would go to Disney!

::yes::

I am exploring Missouri because I can't afford a big vacation this year.

If it were up to me, Disney, of course.:D Would this youth group trip mean a lot to your son? What are his feelings? If he's not really into St. Louis with the church group, then definitely go with Disney.

I'm with Tink...see what the kid thinks and work from there. It's hot in July no matter which 6 Flags you go to! But that's when amsement parks thrive.

I don't like HHC - hot, humid and crowded so I personally would opt for December at Disney. We did it for the first time last year and loved it. However, don't go during Christmas week or you will find it more crowded than ever. That is Disney's busiest week in WDW. Least busiest time is the week after Thanksgiving up until a week before Christmas.

Having done both Disney in December and Six Flags in July... you so want to go to Disney... As a previous poster said, the roller coasters are very jerky at Six Flags , IMHO... Also, Disney=magic... Six Flags=fun... big difference there... plus the prices aren't that much different...

I went to Six Flags St.Louis about 20 years ago in early August, my parents made me go. :( I wanted to be home with my boyfriend so of course I hated it. But regardless of the situation, it was HOT, HUMID and HECTIC! Too many people, not enough air!
