I returned from the doctor today. Really sick. Suppossed to be on bed rest for the next 2 weeks. We planned on leaving Friday for our vacation. Well since the doctor wrote me off, We could leave Wed. Fri June 30th-Wed 5th we were going to be in Sarasota. Wed5th -Sat 15th our first WDW vacation. Anyway if I change all my flight and rental car ressies we could leave Wed 28th. I would have to fly in and out of Tampa instead of Orlando though. Has anyone flown while sick? What is the Tampa airport like? How hard is it to get on the shuttle for Alamo car rental? We are going to leave the 30th regardless of how I feel. We wo't be doing anything but playing on the beach that first week anyway. I just hope I feel a lot better by the time we get to WDW. This is our first trip and I want to enjoy it. So what would you do if you were in this situation. How hard would it be to get everything changed basically overnight? Thanks in advance!

Not only for your own health, which is obviously compromised (I hope you get well soon!) but for those on the flight... PLEASE do not fly when you are sick!

To be in need of 2 weeks bed rest, why would you consider resting for anything less or was that a typo?

I hope you have a speedy recovery!

I am confused...are you asking about flying out this week even though you are so sick you are supposed to be on bed rest? How would you enjoy yourself then? It seems like it would be a big hassle and expense to change everything right now - perhaps you should just rest up at home to be sure you're in tip top shape for your trip. Hope you feel better soon.

I hope I didn't cause a panic. I should have said Nothing Contagious!! If it was I would not even consider flying. I wouldn't put anyone else in contact. It wouldn't be a major expense only 86.00 more for those extra days. I fiqured I could just relax while the kids played on the beach for those extra days. I thought it might do good for a change of atmosphere and climate. Thanks for the well wishes!!

Sorry to hear you are so sick! As far as traveling goes, I would say that it all depends on what type of illness you have before you even consider flying or extending your vacation. Could you make others sick on the flight? Could you possibly put yourself at risk for a reoccurance of whatever you have or if you are pregnant, could you jeopardize your pregnancy? (Just reaching for possible explanations!) I would think that any person could benefit from gaining strength before traveling if that is what the doctor orders.

As far as the Tampa airport goes, you have to ride shuttles to get back and forth from the main building to the terminals. It's fairly easy and not as bad as say, Atlanta.

Good luck and take care of yourself!!! :goodvibes

Obviously you need a vacation and if your from New England i dont blame you from wanting out of here as soon as possible - we haven't seen the sun since Memorial Day.

BUT if your doctor recommends two weeks of bed rest, the best thing for you might be to spend this week LISTENING to your doctor and STAYING in bed. I sure even one week in bed would give you more energy for your trip and get you started on your way to recovery. Lounging around the beach may be the perfect place to spend your second week of bedrest.

You really need to start taking care of yourself - how much found can you have with the kids if you can't get out of bed in Disney, now that would be a shame. So stay in bed and pack between napping.

Hope your feeling better soon - REST - and have fun at wdw

Thanks all! I believe you are right. I am going to rest until Friday then off we go! Hope I feel a lot better by the time I get to WDW. I want our first trip there to be full of magic and us to have a wonderful time!

How easy would it be for the rest of the family to go on schedule and you rest up now and leave home later to meet up with them. Save most of the reservation changing fees and hassles.

Healthful hints:

Had a cold with a cough and this past Saturday felt so "out of it" I could not sit at the computer and look at these boards.
