Sit down! Buckle up! & Hang On! Mickeystoontown's Gang is going to Walley World! 5/15

Yeah..my boss knows EXACTLY when I'm leaving 'cause his family is going with us!!! Am I crazy to have planned a two family vacation with my boss of all people?!? I mean..I love him and his family and all, but what was I thinking????? I need a break from that man!!!!!! I'm gonna need a vacation after the vacation!!! Hahahahahahahaha
Can't believe you leave in 3 weeks! It will be here before you know it!

Good going and John will have to raise his price to afford that one. LOL
In 86 we had what we called the big box that we put on the roof of are Chevett for our first trip to WDW. What a life savor. We flew every other time. Last year we drove(6 of us) to Myrtle Beach and and bought one of those hitch racks which holds a ton but still got a bag top which holds two large suitcases. We lined both with tarps and went through rain with no problem. This year we drive 2 cars to WDW and will put the luggage that would go on top in our car because the bag is a bad idea. We looked for the type you bought and decided the cheep route and you did right. We had to buy a tarp for wrapping the cases because the canvas leaked on the way there.
The one you got is the best way to go. Better gas millage and drier. Have a safe trip.
:drive:

I really think y'all will enjoy Sea World. We went a couple of years ago and it was really nice! I think they've even added a few things since then. We drove in, stayed off-site and went to Sea World the day before we checked in at Disney, so never drove between the two, but I don't think it'll be too bad.

So, enough ignoring this elephant in my office...have you heard about any of this Monstrous Summer promotions they are doing? Specifically, that on May 24, Magic Kingdom will be open 24 hours!?!? We were bouncing off the walls when we heard. I don't know how it will pan out when we're actually there, but right now it's so so so so so so exciting! I at least want to be there at some obscure time I could never be there otherwise, I'm thinking 4am, though I'd really love to see the sunrise from inside the Magic Kingdom!

We had one of those "Hamburger tops" for our cars growing up, too. We would strap it on for most of our road trips. Well once we drove to Disney and they discussed whether or not we needed to bring it and they decided we didn't need it. So we went on the trip and my mom and I shopped and shopped...

Well, 2 days before we were to come home, where were we?? In the Parking lot at Sears putting a new car top carrier together and on the car! :rotfl2: This new one was a little more aerodynamic than the one we had but not as sleek as yours is.

Hi Lisa!!! Good choice! Love Sea World! We went there on our honeymoon in 2008. We were staying at CBR & took I believe a Mears Shuttle Bus there. For the life of me I cannot remember what the cost was. It must have been pretty affordable for us to do it! Haha! Good Luck!! I wouldn't want to drive either!!

You sound like me....it must have been cheap or we wouldn't have done it. :rotfl:

If we were going to add a Non-Disney park it would definitely be Sea World! Jeff and I went in 1992 ( a lifetime ago) on our honeymoon and LOVED it! Great choice!

We just drove in Orlando traffic this past trip. Honestly, Dan drove through Orlando the first time we passed through and he did great. The traffic really was not bad. A bit congested at times, but not what I would call heavy. I'm sure time of day and time of year may make a difference, but you can do it for sure. Signs are great and it's not a long distance. :thumbsup2

I just read the portion where ya'll drove into Orlando and you didn't make it sound too bad. We'd be traveling through on a weekday and during the time of day when all are trying to get to work. :worried:

I have never been to Sea World. It looks like such a great park. I hope you have a wonderful time there. I'm sure you will! :thumbsup2

We've been to the one in Orlando twice and the one in San Antonio once and we enjoyed them a lot. Well, the kids and I enjoyed them. John just kinda went with the flow. ;)

We had a bad experience with the lockers when we rode the Harry Potter ride. It was chaotic in there ! First it was packed with people and there was no one telling anyone what they need to do. So we had to ask :confused3. We were told to put our stuff in a locker, so we found one and had to figure out that by ourself. Then there was no one to tell us which way to go, we ended up in a single rider line :rotfl: But ended up getting to ride together because we told them we made a mistake and took the wrong line. Well when we got off the ride one of our backpack straps was stuck in the locker below us which was locked and we couldnt get it out :crazy2:. The locker rooms were so packed I didnt see anyone who worked there so I had to walk through people trying to find someone to help. I finally found a CM or worker whatever you call them there and she was busy with a guy threating to call the cops if he didnt get his stuff out of the locker. I dont know if he forgot what locker he had or if he couldnt get it open. Anyway he was being really nasty and the worker was about to call security :worried: Finally after all the commotion we got the lady to help us get our backpack. By then my poor DGD was crying :(. I was so glad to get out of there ! It was just so unorganized :rolleyes2
When we went to Us& IOA we took the Mears shuttle that came to the Poly and back. Let them fight the traffic lol ! Actually the traffic there and back didnt seem that bad.

Holy moley! What a nightmare trying to just get to and from the lockers. That's not something that I'd like for sure. :faint:

I like Universal but definitely agree with others, when it comes to the employees there, they are NOT Disney CMs!! It's definitely a park for ride-lovers. And it's hard to justify paying the price for the two park ticket.
I liked a lot of things about Seaworld when I was there last (2010) ... but the Orca show was incredibly disappointing on the day we went. I hope they've made a new show or something. We watched a mom and baby swim around for a while, maybe one orca jump, then the big guy came out and splashed everyone. The end! I've heard it's better now. We found it incredibly hard to see all the shows, just the times that they were scheduled made it impossible to see them all. The sea lions were my favourite, they put on a cute show! I loved the dog/cat show too, very cute.
If I had one excursion day, hands down I wouldn't even consider anything it would be Discovery Cove. Oh oh oh I love it there! Hehehe

Back in the day when we went to Sea World, the castmembers were able to swim with the whales. Of course, it's all changed now. Maybe the show is better. I'm mostly wanting to make sure that Mama gets a good look at those big suckers! ::yes::

Oh I'd love love love to to Discovery Cove! That'll have to wait for another time. My Mama is scared to death of water and would never make it watching all of us out there in the water.

I enjoy taking the buses too. I don't want to worry about driving, directions, and where my car is parked while I'm at Disney.

I love Chopped as well! Haven't watched it in ages though. Ron thinks it's so funny that such a picky eater like me enjoys watching cooking shows. I think I just like the competition/judging part of it a lot. :rotfl:

Sea World looks great. I would love to visit it one day. I especially like the under water tunnel. Looks quite pretty!

Good to hear that from somebody else who likes to let Disney do the driving. I don't want to worry with anything like that when I'm there.

I am a picky eater too and love watching Chopped and seeing how they use all of those weird ingredients. One of the guys who won Chopped is the Chef at a restaurant about two blocks from my office. He's super nice!

Don't worry about the traffic to Sea World. It isn't bad at all. Oh, and that Skytower thing is now free and is something I think Mama will enjoy. Unless she is afraid of heights.

I, personally, didn't care for Sea World. But that's just me. My daughter and hubby love it. There just was not enough to do to keep us busy all day. I guess I am just too spoiled by Disney. Hubby and I use to go to Universal (two-park, one-day) and was always able to do both parks. But only because we did not do the mega rides. But after a couple years, we found we didn't even need to go to Adventure Island. We prefer the "old" park with all the movie rides. We have also done Busch Gardens, which I hated, and Gatorland, which is cute, but very small.

All-in-all, for your "crew," I think Walley ... I mean, Sea World is the best choice for a nice, slow and relaxing day outside of Disney.

I'm going into Sea World knowing that we'll probably miss some things and that we'll take it at a leisurely pace. I don't want to wear us all out on our first day.

I looked into Busch Gardens but, honestly, after riding 16 hours, I don't want to ride in a car to get to Busch Gardens.

I love Sea World! I hope to make it back some day soon. When we were there in 04 I drove (we drove down to Fla from Va) there and I don't remember it being too bad of a drive. I am pretty fearless when it comes to driving for the most part but I do get nervous on unfamiliar roads and it was a fairly easy drive.

I'll definitely be the one doing the driving to Sea World. John ain't gettin' nowhere near the wheel 'cause he scares me in traffic. :scared1:

We love T-Rex and we always get the same thing too. Last trip I didn't make a reservation there for some reason I can't even remember now. River was so disappointed when we were at DTD and didn't eat there. I felt like the worst mom:guilty:

We've never been to Sea World. We did Universal and Ioa and loved it but I wouldn't go on any of the big coasters. :crazy2:

It sounds like its gonna be a really fun trip!

Poor River! T-Rex is young boy's dream restaurant. ::yes::

I see Universal being an offsite trip in the future just not when Mama's with us. I feel like it'd be a waste of money.

Oh Sea World sounds fun! I have never been to Sea World. I would like to get there one of my trips. We did IOA last time in Jan/Feb, and plan on doing the other side on the next "long" trip. We aren't huge Universal fans and did not think the two park pass was worth the money at all.

I'm hoping that Mama likes Sea World. I know that Hunter and I will. John will probably say that he could "take it or leave it".

We went to Sea World in San Antonio a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. We actually went several days in order to see everything, so you will find plenty for your day. The shows are a lot of fun as are the coasters.

We haven't been to San Antonio in umpteen years! We went to Sea World there too! We got so turned around trying to drive. We finally just parked and walked or took the trolley everywhere.

Seaworld sounds like so much fun… but I just couldn't take a day from Disney! Looks like you have a perfect solution! :cool1: And I want Mama to see that WHALE!! :goodvibes

THREE more weeks!!!:banana::banana::banana:

Had we not added the extra day to the trip, we wouldn't be venturing offsite for sure.

Mama has got to see the whales!::yes::

Lisa we must be thinking alike...since we added a day to our trip we are thinking of going to SeaWorld also...we have not been in at least 20 years and the grandkids have never been. We are also thinking we will do TRex...I think the boys would like it and since we are at POFQ we can just hop on a boat to get there.Willo be looking forward to seeing what you think of it.

Well, they DO say that great minds think alike. ;)

Hi Lisa!:goodvibes

I was a couple updates behind...but I'm all caught up now!:thumbsup2 Your trip is coming up soon!! So exciting!!!

I know what you mean about the Disney buses! We love them! We thought about staying off-site next year until Nick commented that it wouldn't be the same if we couldn't ride the Disney buses.::yes:: They are just so convenient!

Yay for SeaWorld!! We thought about heading to Universal next year but the boys aren't much for big coasters so we are thinking of adding Sea World too!! (Hopefully, we won't cancel again:rolleyes1) I'll be excited to see your pictures and hear how everyone likes it!:)

Hey Angie!

I'm with Nick....gotta stay onsite for sure. ;)

I forgot about you canceling the trip over to Sea World. We tossed around several different options but Sea World seems to fit in with the other things that we have planned.

Congratulations on the purchase! I've never seen one of those before...interesting new look.

The boss doesn't know when you are going on vacation? Mine asks me every other day when I'm going and I don't leave for 38 days yet. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I'm happy that we got the luggage carrier. It will make it so much easier to pack when I realize just how many extra "goodies" I bring home from Disney. ;)

Last year, my boss asked me every other day when I was leaving. This year, nothing...he doesn't even want to talk about it.:confused3

Oh man, I remember having one of those that we put on top of our station wagon growing up. We called it the "hamburger" because it looked like the stryofoam hamburger containers that McDonald's used to have. :rotfl:

That's exactly what they looked like! A hamburger box!:rotfl:

Yeah..my boss knows EXACTLY when I'm leaving 'cause his family is going with us!!! Am I crazy to have planned a two family vacation with my boss of all people?!? I mean..I love him and his family and all, but what was I thinking????? I need a break from that man!!!!!! I'm gonna need a vacation after the vacation!!! Hahahahahahahaha
Can't believe you leave in 3 weeks! It will be here before you know it!

Oh Heaven help you! Let us pray! :rotfl: There's no way in the world that I'd go on any trip with my boss. No way at all!:scared1:

Good going and John will have to raise his price to afford that one. LOL

:drive:

I've been sticking what little extra we have back for the trip and I had to take some out to buy the luggage carrier but I think that we'll get a good bit of use out of it. It'll even hold our camping supplies when we go camping.

I wondered about buying the cloth/vinyl/whatever it is "bag" type carriers but the reviews weren't that great. It never fails that it rains on our way to Disney so I didn't want to take the chance.

I heard about the Magic Kingdom being open 24 hours on the 24th! That just happens to be Hunter's 16th Birtday too! Wouldn't it be cool to see the sunrise at the Magic Kingdom? I'd love to be able to say we did that. Thanks to extra magic hours, we've been in the park until 2:00 a.m. before.

I'm excited to know that we'll have extra room in the car (or at least on the top) so I can buy all of the goodies that I want. ;) just like you did. At least I'll already have the carrier and won't have to stop and purchase another. :rotfl:

It's done! What's done? The boss left for the afternoon and I wrote my dates on the calendar. I'm tired of pussyfooting around the subject. When I put pen to paper and really studied it, I'm really only going to be out of the office for 7 full work days. We close at Noon on Fridays and we are closed for Memorial Day so just 7 full days. At least that's what I'm going to tell him when he actually sees the dates in writing. I can only imagine what tomorrow will bring. Let the pouting, fit pitching, foot stomping and grumbling begin! :lmao:

I know this is off subject but you CAMP!!!!!!. I love to camp and that topper is perfect. Wife will not tent camp and that is what I love. I meet the guys for about two 5 day outings fishing. I have a big cabin tent and all (plus) the accessories. I have so much I take two seats out of the van and load up. I even have a small A/C I mount in the sidewall of the tent. Smoker, dutch oven, cast iron pans everything etc... Linda thinks I must be a joke as if you need it I have it. Do you tent or trailer or cabin camp? Have you camped at WDW?

Sorry for the hijack but as you can see I love to camp.

When you look at it that way, you are hardly gone. Let him pout, and foot stomp...YOU deserve a vacation. :)

Sounds like your boss might not be to happy about your vacation. But it is only 7 days so that is reasonable :thumbsup2

Hi Lisa! Your family sounds fun!

We're doing our first visit to SeaWorld at the end of June. I'm really interested in your take on it. It seems so strange to be visiting an unfamiliar park, doesn't it?

Happy planning!

Kathy

Oh no need to apologize.

Heck yeah I camp! Ain't no way to camp besides a tent baby! I was raised on tent camping and it's the way that I raised my kids too. Tents and sleeping bags are the way to go. We all love it! I can talk about camping almost as much as I can talk about Disney. ::yes:: We've never camped at Disney but I'm looking into it for my niece and her husband and their Boy Scouts.

We have all of the accessories too but you've got me beat with the A/C. ;) We only have a fan. I have two big totes that I keep packed just for camping. My mother game me her "utensil box" that she used when we went camping as a family when I was little. It's nothing but old utensils...forks, spoons, spatulas, old time can opener, etc. and it's in an old Tupperware container but it's like a treasure to me. It holds a lot of memories. For a long time, we even used the same tent that my Daddy and Mama took us camping in when I was a little girl. Eventually, the tent just wore out from all of the use and we had to break down and buy another.

In my book, if you're going camping, that means you're going fishing too. And, before you ask, yes, I do bait my own hook and take my own fish off. Worms, crickets, grubs, whatever it takes. When we catch the fish (yes I said when not if :rotfl:), I fry them up and we have fish and homemade french fries. Oh I wish that I were camping right now!

We have so many funny camping stories that I could share. Shocker! I know! :rotfl2: Like the time that Lacey and I had a rude awakening in the middle of the night. I had my two totes out on the picnic table benches and I heard a loud pop. I didn't move but kept listening and I heard it again. I looked around in the tent and saw Lacey staring right at me. She said "where's dad?". John was right beside me. Then, we heard growling and another pop.

I punched John awake and we all started listening to the growling and then we heard scratching around. I had never ever been scared while camping but this was a bit scary. We unzipped the tent a little at the top to try and see out but it was too dark. We got the flashlight out but still couldn't see anything. The growling went around to the back of the tent and we could hear more scratching. Then, it stopped.

Once we realized that whatever was growling was gone, we started giggling and saying what if we had seen a huge shadow on the side of the tent when we turned the flashlight on whatever it was. What if this? What if that?

John was the first out of the tent and, mind you, it was pitch black dark still and John was trying to keep the flashlight beam in our area so it wouldn't disturb the other campers. Lacey told John that she heard that you could pee all around your campsite to keep varmits out. Of course, that made us all giggle even more. But, John, being the ever protective father/husband, proceeded to pee all the way around the tent. :rotfl:

We couldn't see anything out and about so we went back in the tent and fell asleep laughing to ourselves. When we woke up, we saw that we had been visited by raccoons who had tried to get into our totes. There were paw prints everywhere.

I couldn't believe that the little suckers tried to get my stuff. We had never had that happen before. Then, I realized that Hunter had left out a bag of bubble gum that we had bought at the Ranger Station. Just thinking of the raccoons fighting over the bubble gum made us laugh all over again.

We also have some not so funny stories. Like the time we were the only ones, I kid you not, in the entire section of the State Park and the Ranger came by to tell us that there was a storm coming. He said that if it got too bad we were to go into the bathhouse and lock ourselves in. He said that he'd drive by throughout the night if the weather permitted. So, we stayed in the tent all night long. We could hear it raining and and the wind blowing but we were dry in the tent so we stayed put. Next morning, we stepped outside and it looked like a tornado had hit. Tops of trees were twisted out and it looked like a river had split up and run down either side of our tent. The ranger came around and said that a tornado had been spotted in the area around 1:00 that morning. Guess we slept through it. :scared1:

See, I told you that I could talk camping almost as much as I could talk Disney!

I miss camping. We used to go all the time when I was younger, but the last time I was camping with my family was maybe 6 years ago, and it was sort of half camping. Yes, we had a tent, but we stayed at the state park in Raleigh, and in the middle of the weekend went home to check on the dog and then to Walmart to pick up supplies. So...not really what most people consider camping. Now I'm afraid I've gotten soft and won't like it.

Now I did sign on as counselor for a weekend canoe camp, and camped then. I scared the poor male counselors because the night we grilled steaks I ate 4...and was still hungry! But canoeing takes a lot out of you, especially when you're paddling all day! It was also the first time i'd ever had seafood boil. My friend had to break my crab for me, because I couldn't stop feeling sorry for it and felt awful cracking it open. But once it was open I demolished it.
