Sister Wives

I guess I had a little too much time on my hands today and my curiosity got the better of me because, I'm embarrassed to admit , I took a quick look for the sales prices of their homes via Clark County public records ... And all I can say is :scared1: ... I do not know much about the trend of the real estate market in Nevada, and even though I thought they probably paid a good penny for them, I didn't think they paid as much for them as they did ... Color me clueless for sure ;) ... I guess it would be a less shocking price if they bought one house, but they bought four of them?! :faint: ... And they have all those mouths to feed too! ... Oh well, bless their hearts ... I don't know how they do it ... I guess reality shows pay really, really well ... but who knew that well - except for the Kardashian's, of course ;) ... :)

What did the house cost?

So if it is public record, give us a ball park figure.

I had to go back and look at their website again just for kicks. When they first started it I thought the jewelry was cheap looking and not many designs available. Now they have some pieces I like but I think it is still overpriced. I also am not interested in buying pieces that refer to their lifestyle, well say SW or Sisterwife on it. I think that for the most part by using that logo they are really limiting their pool of potential buyers.

Obviously they are either not too bright or very insulated. I just do not understand why they think that the public wants to wear their logo plastered wherever. If you look at Duck Dynasty the are promoting traditional values and the show is pretty much a family show. While the Browns never do anything
off color etc how does one answer the question of a child who perhaps watches the show and wonders why there are 4 wives and what in fact that means?

And honestly, they talked about having a fitness studio a while back. REALLY here again they are out of touch. They have had a huge block of time to lose weight and look fit and even though they have lost some I feel like they are not "poster children" for a fitness studio. Thankfully they dumped that idea.

I cannot say that there is one of them that does not annoy me but like a car wreck I cannot look away. I think many of the viewers of this show feel the same way but I do not think SW is aware of public feeling and that in itself is the reason that their business ventures flop. I mean it is not like FLDS wives are going to be purchasing anything from them so who is their market?

What gets me is that they boohoo about money, but yet have indebted themselves with 1.8m in real estate in a high foreclosure state. Not very bright.

I don't understand why they keep coming up with these business ideas for stuff nobody wants.

Why not go and get jobs that bring in an income and then see about starting a business.

Is Kody the only one working? How did the others qualify for a mortgage?

The whole money thing is such BS. We know they're getting paid by TLC.

We all know that & we all know TLC won't be footing the bill forever. The question is, do THEY realize that someday thay will have to actually earn enough money to pay the bills.

They don't have jobs or husbands with an income. They probably paid cash and made up the whole mortgage drama.

What does Kody do for a living (besides the show-and I think they all wrote a book)?

I just don't get why Janelle and Meri don't get a real job! They had them before and it sounds like Janelle at least has very marketable skills and experience. Even in a bad economy they should have been able to get some sort of job by now. Robin and Christine need to flip a coin to see which one gets to stay home with the kids and which one has to go get a job! And does Kody still have a real job? If not then he needs to get his butt out there and get one.

None of this hobby business, crappy internet jewelry, let's start a business doing things we know nothing about but sound fun-- get a real job!

Either that or they are being paid really well for doing the show. They have had a couple of seasons so they could be using their historical income from the show to qualify.

It was mentioned earlier in the thread that each adult is paid $75,000/episode for the show. If that is true, do the math: $75,000x5=$375,000x8=$2,960,000. $2,960,000 per season!!! They are ROLLING in it! The four houses can be paid for free-and-clear and they still have a million left over? I'm simply mystified :confused3 by all this talk about them being poor...

Either that or they are being paid really well for doing the show. They have had a couple of seasons so they could be using their historical income from the show to qualify.

Not sure if they are paid well in the scheme of being tv personalities, but compared to the rest of us work-a-day stiffs I'd say they're doing alright. (BTW, I didn't go back in the thread far enough to find the original source of this figure nor do I have any way to verify that it's correct.)

Exactly but before this show how did they make money. It was not like that house that they lived in in UTAH was too shabby. What is it that Janelle did before? Why can't she do it again? What about Robin? How did she support her kids.

Speaking of Robin where is her son? I did not see him in the last couple of shows only the girls. I know he is autistic but do you think he went to live with his dad? OH and the big present is that she got her name changed to BROWN. REally? How much did that cost? What a waste of money. She could call herself Bozo on everything but legal documents and no one would know! What is the big deal.

I couldn't find anything regarding how much they are actually paid. It isn't public record but there is some info that says that everyone over 15 makes $75k per episode with the younger children also getting paid something if they appear on screen.

Merry and Mariah are so whiny! The reason YOU are not in YOUR house (boohoo boohoo) is because YOU drove the developer crazy going in every day and changing things, getting in the way, slowing down building, and did not turn your paper work in on time. Merry is a nuisance a lot. Now her daughter is following in her footsteps with the whining and drama.

I like Janelle. She is working, isn't she? She did before anyway. Merry has one grown child, she can get a job. Robyn and Christine have been SAHM I think. No idea what Kody does for work.

Seriously 75 per episode? Wow that seems like a lot. Just wondering if Mona the Real Estate Agent or any of the other people not in the family get paid too. The thing is too these current episodes are almost a year old! They are trying to get in the house for Christmas and that was over 8 months ago!

Another thing about Duck Dynasty is, I think the merchandising, etc. came after the show became popular. People watch DD, they like the guys, and the popularity grew organically. Whereas Sister Wives gets its popularity more from the "train wreck" factor than from people relating to them or wanting to be like them. Also, it's quite a stretch from buying a DD t-shirt in Wal-Mart--if you tire of the show, you can wear the shirt to paint your house, you only invested $10. But Sister Wives jewelry is a more expensive, less versatile purchase.

Okay, back to your regularly scheduled thread...

There is no way each is getting $75k per episode. The draw of reality TV is the cheap cost to make. The stars of Friends made $100K per episode in the later years and the cost was a reason the show ended. I believe I read it was per season and only for the 5 adults but not all over 15.
