Sister Wives

I was trying to estimate how much money 4 houses would cost in LV. Anyone have any idea? Where did they get that much money? I also always wonder what Janelle's "career" was when she was in Utah.

As for the Sister Wives Jewelry...ahhh it looks a little like the open heart that Jane Seymore designed. And like I do not know about anyone else but the style does not look killer to me. How much money do you all estimate they get for doing the show?

No official amount is posted but some site think $50K/adult and other $75K/adult. I believe that is per season and there have been two seasons.

Why are they building 7 bedroom houses? The largest family has 6 kids with one of the 6 kid family sending their oldest to college. There are 4-5 more teens that will go to college in a next next two or three years. IIRC three daughters go next year.

Meri only has one child, who goes to college next year and has stated she will return to Utah when she graduates high school, is building a 7 bedroom house. Why?!

What will it cost to cool those houses?

Did anybody notice the checks were all written for $5000. The are not actually buying the houses at this time. They may have done that so they could buy time for the second season payment to occur.

When Christine, about 40, said she wanted to be able to visit her father, 60s - 70s, creepy Kody told he she will need to save the food money. Really?!

Here is a home in LV that looks like the unfinished home they showed on the show.

It would cost about $250K + upgrades. That is doable if they sell the house in Utah and put in part of their show money.

Wouldn't these be a better choice? Buy two of them and put a door between them. This would be more like what they had in Utah. Get four townhouse and that would be just like Utah.

That was earnest money to hold the lots while they secured financing.

And yes, I caught that comment to Christine. I found it really creepy too.

And seeing him run across the lots at the end reminded me of Leonardo DiCaprio yelling "I'm King of the World!" in Titanic. Only in this case, the gals are skimping on groceries to build his little kingdom. I found it incredibly distaseful.

Can you get financing for a house on a salary earned from a flash in the pan TV show that could be gone in a year?

I was flabbergasted at how much they didn't seem to like each other (wives and Kody all having issues). Editing was done really well......OR.....they're writing it that way (all negatives) to sell a book about drama.

As far as the houses, they're are going to be expensive. I just wonder how they qualify for loans, basically as single women, when none of them are holding a real, solid job. (I'm assuming they're listing reality star as their occupation) I doubt Kody could be on all their loans. His credit can't be that good to float all of them.

Plus with Meri's sister living in the Utah house, I've wondered if she's renting it and they still hold the loan or if she bought it outright.

On a previous show, they could not get conventional funding and were offered interest only loans. They were also told the four loans would be for Meri and Kody and then three single moms.

I don't get the businesses they women are starting up.
Sister wife jewelry??? Seriously?
A gym? huh?

I know the gym thing really made me laugh. I know that everyone needs to be fit and am no light weight but really I want a gym where I can see results. Janelle lost 10 lbs in a year. How much does that make me want to sweat my pits off if all I am going to do is lost 10 lbs in a year.

Also I noticed that Christine was wearing false eyelashes. It seemed really odd and she looked ridiculous. I liked them better when they were down to earth.

Meri and Janelle both had jobs in the past but Cody made some sort of reference to some sort of networking thing that they were making money from but I did not understand it.

My thoughts about the 7 BR houses- do you think they have future plans to have their children living there after college and maybe even with their spouses/ children? Maybe they are planning to have their parents move in when they are too old to care for themselves. I still think it ridiculous to build these when this show could be over soon. Look at Dog the Bounty Hunter, they cancelled his show and I thought people were still watching it.

I agree about the gym. You need someone slim and fit to be running it. Maybe even someone who lost a lot of weight and can encourage you. Not someone like Janelle. Kody said she would need 1000 memberships in the first year to get by- not going to happen!

Maybe if Janelle was going to own the gym but never set foot in it.

Who do they think they are going to attact as customers. I really really don't get their business ideas.

My understanding is their "marketing job" is actually some sort of pyramid scheme type situation. They are reps for some sort of detox/health drink.

Also, their plans for these 4 houses are delusional and totally irresponsible. Why does Meri need a 7 bedroom house? It was hard to feel bad for her crying over how she wanted the house but feared the judgement of her sister wives. Sorry, Meri, I would be judging you too if you were living alone in a giant house while I was living in the same size house with my 6 kids. And saying that if she had her way she would have had enough kids to fill 7 bedrooms doesn't erase the fact that she has one kid who will be moving out next year. Why would she want to deal with the hassle of cleaning and furnishing all those empty, unnecessary rooms? So bizarre.

I sometimes read episode recaps on a sister wives blog site and apparently the family has filed for bankruptcy something like 3 times in some formation (it isn't always the same person filing for bankruptcy). They need to wake up and become more financially responsible.

when they were discussing the gym she admitted that she didnt lose a lot of weight...but she was able to do things she hadnt been able to do before..Like climbing the mt with "whats his name" and going on hikes with the kids...so she feels healthy..just doesnt look it in our terms.

and I did feel bad for Meri...she gets the raw end of all the deals because she only had that one child (who will be off to college in another year)

and she did say she didnt want a 7 bedroom house...she just wants to feel like she is part of this group ...sort of???????

The show last night really ticked me off. I f my husband stated to me that i would have to use food money to go on a trip to see my father so that i would be on board to buying a house i would knock him so far into the past he would know what his great great grandparents where like. Another thing is this Its' the ladies that are going to be in debt up to their eyeballs for these homes kody didn't put anything down just the ladies. so those stupid foolish women are putting their finical lives on the line to let that stupid womanizing jerk they call a husband hullfill their needs.

Last i knew you had to have a job and money to get a home can someone enlighten me as to how this is going to work for them? They have 30 days to get their crap together. I figure they are going to need at leat 25,000.00 for a down payment and thats each of them, then they will have to come up with monthly payments and i can bet the intrest rates won't be prime rate.
I hope they cancell the show the only reason that he wants them together is to keep his thumb on them.

It's wild to consider that they are living this lifestyle because of religious reasons...but then they had to leave Utah (due to the publicity generated by the show, of course) and now live in LV where they have no church except themselves, I guess. I assume that except for the poligamy part, their religious beliefs line up most with LDS, only Kody didn't want the oldest kid to go to college with a bunch of LDS.

Meri does get the raw deal. She is the only legal wife but she has to go along with what the others and their kids want. A comment was also made that Meri had nice things. Well yeah, she did not let her child ruin her stuff. She also always worked until they moved to LV.

I always wondered why they did not move to Montana or is it Wyoming, where his mom, dad and Janelle's mom already live on the ranch. They could have built their prized house and still done the internet job.

Why did they move to LV anyway? The economy is really hurting there and they are alone from a religious point of view.

I know Janelle said she feels better and that is great but really be honest how many people go to the gym just to feel better? Maybe I am being rally vain but Janelle is not someone I would look to for inspiration. I have a friend you lost 100lbs by going to the gym and SHE would be a great role model. That would inspire me ....Not Janelle

And what is the name of the one that is always crying? OMG is that all she does. I think if I was one of the sister wives I would give her something to cry about. I know she offered to be a surrogate for Meri but it just makes me feel kind of creepy and I do not know why. It is like she is so sweet and then some day she is going to take a weapon and wipe out a house full of people.

They should just move back to Utah. Charges were never pressed. It doesn't look like they sold their big house. Course, there is no room for Robin. She can just pitch a tent in the backyard. ;)

They can put Meri in the tent and give her part of the house to Robin. ;)

Regarding Cody's statement about his wives not fulfilling him: it made me furious at first. I think, though, he was just saying that no one person can always perfectly meet another person's needs. I suppose that is true enough from a logical standpoint. I know that I can't actually meet my husband's every need every second. And he can't meet mine all the time. So he is trying to defend plural marriage by saying each wife brings different strengths to the marriage. Of course it stands to reason that different husbands would help balance Kody's weaknesses so his wives would be fulfilled- but I guess he doesn't mention that.

So it sounds like he is defending "marriage by committee". I would hate that as a wife. Janelle has to fit into the "business" position, and Kristine's job is to be the "fun" person. Wouldn't that boost your self-esteem, to hear that you were not fun, but you are a great family accountant!

Isn't that what friends are for? My DH & I have a lot of common interests but, for example, I love Broadway shows & plays and classical music and he really doesn't. So, I have a friend K who I do those things with. DH has even said to me before 'I don't want to go to that. Call K & I'll buy her ticket'.
IMO, part of a healthy marriage is realizing the differences you have & giving each other alone time to celebrate those differences.

Joining in!

That interview with Natalie Morales made me like Meri less and Christine more.
I've always liked Janelle, so that didn't change at all.

Kody's remark to Christine about her being being grossed out by her when they were dating made me

How could a man with four wives be so insensitive (particularly when two of his wives struggle with their weight)?!? He really is a dolt.

What I really do not understand is the fact that the marriages are not legal and so why would they prosecute? How is it different from some guy with 4 gf's and a bunch of kids. He has not legally married these women so what's to prosecute? Just cause he calls them his wives means nothing if he called them his gf's would they go after him?

DH and I were talking about this as well. I just don't get it either. :confused3

He is claiming his kids and taking an active role in their lives. This seems much better to me than people who have kids with multiple partners and then don't have a relationship or do have dysfunctional relationships.

Open marriages are not illegal, so why would having 1 wife and multiple GF's be illegal?

They only thing I can think of is that the Mormon church is trying to distance themselves from polygamists and they are going "overboard" with it in regards to consenting adults. I know there is a whole sub-culture that has/is/was marrying under age girls to older men and that is illegal.

I waiver in my opinion of Cody and he did NOT do himself any favors during that interview. Why on earth did he marry these women?

And what is Janelle's testimony? Why does she feel so passionate about this lifestyle? I might have to read the book! :sad2:
