Sister Wives, anyone???

Just subscribing to this thread...finally got to catch the show last night. Weird!

Sorry if this has been discussed, but what kind of "salesman" is Kody? How can he afford a new Lexus sportscar, Lexus SUV, another big SUV, a bunch of wives, a baseball team of kids, and a huge house? :confused3 Do they talk about this at all on the show?

Just throwing this out there, but...I agree with Minky that the first 3 wives don't seem especially thrilled with the addition of Wife #4. I get that the adults in this situation have made a choice, and I'm not going to question it; they all SEEMED happy. My issue is, at what point does Kody put HIS happiness before that of the rest of his family (namely, the first 3 wives)? I get the feeling that they don't necessarily have a problem with a 4th wife; if #4 were 45 instead of 30, I bet they'd be feeling a lot better. JMHO! It's just that the whole premise of the show is "we all live together in harmony, there are no step-siblings/parents, everyone is together...", yet Kody can go and do what he wants...maybe I'm totally off base here!

I wonder what Robyn's ex-dh has to say about this. She said it was just the 2 of them in a marriage, no sister wives. I wonder how he feels about his kids moving so far away and them possibly moving into Kody's house.....

I'd love to see this custody hearing come before Judge Judy....:rotfl2:

Is he going to build new rooms to the house? The pregnant wife said her new baby has to bunk w/ her because there is no more room...

I think with this whole new wife thing I feel the most sorry for Christine (the pregnant one). She seems to be the one most upset about this and for good reason. She is the one that is the primary caregiver when everyone else is at work. She is now adding a newborn baby and an older child with special needs into the mix at the same time!

Are any of the wives allowed to veto the addition of a new wife? If not, that seems to indicate Christine can be forced to care for as many children as BK decides to add to the family. How is that fair?

Last week I came across this thread and found the first episode on TLC. I was hooked, lol. Definitely not sharing my man with anyone, but who can't watch a good train wreck?

Anyway, we don't have cable, so I'm stuck with only seeing what I can find on the internet. There wasn't a new episode up at TLC, so I didn't know if it was on or not.

As for the insurance I wonder about that too. It seems that Christine is the only one that wouldn't be covered. From the sound of it Janelle's job probably has coverage for her, Meri would be covered by Kody as his legal wife, and the kids are all his so his coverage provides for them, with Janelle's also covering her kids. Hmmmm, does Utah have any domestic partner recognition? Janelle could just claim Christine as her "domestic partner" and cover her that way! Really they certainly are domestic partners!
DH says he would never even cheat or remarry because no way he is going to go through having to figure out ANOTHER woman.

Don't mean to insult anyone but Utah is a pretty conservative state, I can't imagine that they have liberal same sex domestic partnership laws :confused3

Robin said that her previous marriage was polygamist, however they had not taken any sister wives, so I guess her ex would be fine with it.

I was reading some forums on another site and it seems like there are women swooning for the Burger King. I wonder how many women are going to be writing him now in hopes of "marrying" him.

Thanks a lot for the BK reference as now I keep hearing "hold the pickles, hold the lettuce, special orders don't upset us" in my head.

You're welcome!:laughing::lmao::rotfl:

I swear he is just like the commercials. He pops up randomly in different places with his flouncy hair.:cutie:

Was it you, MHM, that came up with Kody's resemblance to BK ... because you are so dead on ... and watching him Sunday night, that was all I thought of after reading it on here ... esp the HAIR!!! :lmao:

:thumbsup2

OMG me too. And the grin. He's got the Burger King grin too. I can't even remember his real name anymore.

:rotfl: Now everytime I watch it that's all I can think of is Burger King! Maybe that isn't such a bad thing though?!;)

Yes it was me. :rolleyes1 When I saw that first episode that was all I could think of. Then when he would randomly appear in the room it would remind me of the BK commercials where the Bk would be peeking in a window or just suddenly be somewhere. Super creepy! Maybe he was the prototype for the BK advertising team!

Did anyone watch tonight? So Kody finds it "vulgar" to think that Meri would even "think" of being with another man but it's ok he has 3+ wives????

I DVR'd it and will probably watch tonight.

I would hazard to guess (without having seen the episode) that it has to do with their religion. My understanding is that the reason there is more than wife is because of procreation and populating the family.

Women are sealed to one man for eternity. For a wife to consider bringing another man into the mix would either be for purely sexual reasons (adultery) or because her husband wasn't providing the seed necessary to create more souls for their family. Obviously Kody is providing the seed necessary. Therefore, based on their religious views (if I'm understanding them correctly) Meri would be considering a man purely for adultery reasons.

Again, I haven't seen the episode yet so I don't know the context of what Kody was talking about. He could have been discussing it in a purely academic manner. This is only my first impression of why Kody would consider it vulger for a wife of his to think about being with another man.

Regardless of how distasteful or hypocritical people make this out to be, this is how they live their lives. Like the Amish, these people have a different set of rules they live by. Our societal norms cannot be applied here. Besides, I'm sure we do things that they find just as distasteful and hypocritical. And when we say, "Well, I don't care what they think of me and what I do, they're just WRONG!", we articulate the same answer they'd give to us if we were to tell them that we find them to be distasteful or hypocritical:

"What makes you think that your opinion of how I/we live my/our lives will influence me/us in the slightest? In my/our opinion, you are the sinner and YOU are wrong."

Makes you wonder if TLC made Meri ask that question, so Kody could answer it. She was actually getting very loud in the resturant and I wondered if anyone else was in the resturant at the time.

I think Meri really does like the concept of the sister wives, but I think she is now threatened or as she said, "she is human and she is jealous". How is she not jealous with her other 2 sisters-wives.

She looks so miserable

Because the new wife is actually competition. She's a trophy wife. She had the other wives beat by looks and body and she was number one. She still may be the first wife, the last wife is hot. JMHO.
