I DVR'd it and will probably watch tonight.
Did anyone watch tonight? So Kody finds it "vulgar" to think that Meri would even "think" of being with another man but it's ok he has 3+ wives????
I would hazard to guess (without having seen the episode) that it has to do with their religion. My understanding is that the reason there is more than wife is because of procreation and populating the family.
Women are sealed to one man for eternity. For a wife to consider bringing another man into the mix would either be for purely sexual reasons (adultery) or because her husband wasn't providing the seed necessary to create more souls for their family. Obviously Kody is providing the seed necessary. Therefore, based on their religious views (if I'm understanding them correctly) Meri would be considering a man purely for adultery reasons.
Again, I haven't seen the episode yet so I don't know the context of what Kody was talking about. He could have been discussing it in a purely academic manner. This is only my first impression of why Kody would consider it vulger for a wife of his to think about being with another man.
Regardless of how distasteful or hypocritical people make this out to be, this is how they live their lives. Like the Amish, these people have a different set of rules they live by. Our societal norms cannot be applied here. Besides, I'm sure we do things that they find just as distasteful and hypocritical. And when we say, "Well, I don't care what they think of me and what I do, they're just WRONG!", we articulate the same answer they'd give to us if we were to tell them that we find them to be distasteful or hypocritical:
"What makes you think that
your opinion of how I/we live my/our lives will influence me/us in the slightest? In my/our opinion, you are the sinner and
YOU are wrong."
