Sister Wives, anyone???

I also wouldn't want some man to think he's so freakin' fabulous that 3 women want him. Especially the husband in this particular show...ewwww!

I think it's kind of sad that there are women in the world who think so little of themselves that they are willing to put up with all that.

Clearly, I'd be a bad fundamentalist Mormon.

Well, it may just be me, but It doesn't look like any of them are happy about this new woman coming into the picture. They may like the way things were, but all of that is about to change. I almost felt sorry for them.

That's what I'm wondering about, too. They seem to have their routines down and operate well as a group. Now they're about to shake all that up after 13 years with a newer sister-wife? I really wonder if this wasn't some kind of tactic to add more drama to the show. (What? Like sister-wives isn't dramatic enough in and of itself?)

I'd hate to see that functioning family unit go down in flames just because of a TV reality show.

One question I had as I watched the show - if there are so many "moms" around and the work is shared, then why was the 16yo son of that one woman essentially acting like a "mom" at 6am in the morning, making breakfast and getting 5 other small children ready for their day before he could do his thing (go to school or start his homeschool studies or whatever)? Didn't they say one of the wives was the designated SAHM, who didn't work specifically so she could care for all the kids while the other ones worked?

I haven't watched it yet, but keep in mind that what they film for a show is a small moment in their lives...maybe that particular day the designated Mom just needed a break...maybe the 16 year old was just being helpful....

Ok so I didn't watch and won't likely but I have this one question- I read an article about the show and apparently Kody is bringing in a 4th wife who's a divorcee- I'm kinda surprised they'd be accepting of a divorcee- and how many wives did her first husband have?

Unknown at this time. The only thing they revealed on last night's show was the big announcement to the kids that they're bringing on a 4th. You'll have to tune in to find out!

The impression I got from his mom was that he's a kind of a "caretaker" sibling. He does these things without anyone really asking him to; he sort of takes on the responsibility himself. He did say he loved cooking, so maybe this is an outlet for him to experiment with cooking on his sibs.

Janelle and Kody were talking about how, while they love this caretaker gene he has, they'd also like him to get more into going out with the guys and doing regular teenaged things so he's not spending his youth being Mr. Mom. I guess it's all about balance: he's learning to balance his desire to be a caretaker for his siblings and a help to his mom with school, sports, friends, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary there.

It definitely speaks to the kind of loving examples set in that home if a 15 y/o teenaged boy decides to take responsibility for making sure his 5 y/o sister eats her breakfast.

Just curious about what happens when one of the wives decides to leave the "marriage".
I watched looks to me like Kody or whatever his name is just does whatever he wants and has all his slaves doing all the cooking, cleaning, kid raising, ryc while he jets around in his convertable car.
With that many kids where would he find the time to "court" another woman?

I thought the show was much better than I'd anticipated. They were all on their best "first show" behavior last night so I'm interested to see if the rainbows and sunshine continue as the show evolves.

Well, I broke down and watched it and my view didn't change at all. I think they are all crazy. I could not live that way at all, nor would ever want to.

I am just wondering how he supports all of them? Are they living off of the government? If so, this is wrong on even more levels. IMO

He mentioned that he was in advertising sales and it sounded like at least 3 of the wives worked.

Not sure how you thought they lived off the government. He had a super snazzy two seater sports car and a huge house.

There is something so degrading to me about being one of three wives. Even though he seems like a pretty nice guy and says he makes time for all of them, I still think it isn't right.

Exactly. There is something sorta skeevy about him "visiting" a different wife each night. I mean, who wants to be the last girl of the week.

Well I guess it's common practice for the non-legally married wives to commit welfare fraud- but I doubt they do because I read that at first he was afraid to put all his kids on his insurance and he ended up paying cash for someone's appendix to come out.

I found it quite interesting. I wouldn't automatically condemn it just because it's not something I could personally do--I could never live like the Duggars, either, but they seem happy enough with their choices. (The families on both shows.) If anyone was being forced into the lifestyle, then I'd have a real problem with it.

I agree. At first, I wasn't going to watch it, then I was doing something else and never changed the channel so I ended up watching it. I admit I did have preconceived notions of polygamy, but I found them to be mostly false, at least in this case. I found it quite interesting. I personally could never live like that, but it seemed to work for their family. I do like the fact that all three were "married" to him before any of the 12 children were born. I also like the fact that their house is split into 3 separate living quarters. Each have their own kitchen, bedrooms, etc. He works long hours and at least one of the wives works (the 2nd wife), one takes care of the children( the 3rd wife) and another is going to school (the first wife. She may work also, I just didn't catch that part). The adults seemed happy and the children did too. Like I teach my children, there all all kinds of family. I am not going to judge them for loving each other.

I watched about 15 minutes and changed the channel saying, 'nuh-uh, I don't think so.'
Totally unbelievable. They all seemed a bit high to me, especially the man and the first wife. I could see mean and fake personality coming out inspite of their attempt to seem normal - their definition of normal. Won't be watching again and btw, I just happened on a replay of the original late last night when I was channel surfing.

I think he said his name was LOGAN. What a great young man. He said he did this EVERY day. His Mom (Janelle) is gone by 5am and works until 6 or 7pm every day. And his job is to get the kiddos all up and dressed and make them breakfast. Interesting the Mom (Mary) that had only ONE kid (a daughter) gave her a granola bar ... and here Logan was downstairs with 4 or 5 siblings making them each a full breakfast. He seems like a very smart, responsible young man.
I thought it was ODD that their mom, Janelle said she would prefer to be out of the house all day while everyone took care of her kiddos and made all the meals and she can came home from her long work day ready to eat dinner.

This so mirrors BIG LOVE esp now with the 4th wife coming in. They all live together but separate apartments ... hmm. So similar. I am not really sure what to think yet of this show.

Boy, the dad, Cody, he sure is like this stud with that fancy little car ... why would be buy a car THAT SMALL with 13+ kids ... ????

Its not illegal. He is only legally married to the first wife. The others he is spiritually married to. They are all only cohabiting together which is not illegal.

I know we're not supposed to judge....everyone is entitled to his/her own lifestyle choices as long as they don't affect anyone else...

BUT, I find this whole thing sickening. It is so far outside my own value system that even thinking about it nauseates me.

I have it DVRd at home and I'll
watch tonight. I honestly don't care how they live, as long as no one was forced to marry (which they weren't). I just can't imagine living like that. You're really not a wife; you're a womb & someone to have "marital relations" with. A gal I work with said one of the woman said she didn't want a husband, she wanted a family. I just can't imagine.

Also...I'd love to see a situation where 1 woman had multiple husbands in one of these US polygamous families, but I won't hold my breath for that.

TLC is scraping the bottom of the barrel for show ideas these days. Not impressed. Pretty soon they'll be the Maury Pauvich for tv stations.

It's not considered illegal as long as all of the parties involved are consenting adults. If you're thinking about recent arrests, those involved underage girls who were forced/coerced into marriage. Polygamy is actually marrying more than one person. These people are not legally married (nor are they married according to common law, since that's an actual legal marriage as well, and they do not qualify), except for the man and the first wife. Legally, the others are simply roommates and baby mamas.
