Sirius Radio

Sirius came with my car for 12/months free. In my driver information panel I can see the name of the station but no where do I have an option to see the title and band. I wish I could though. Oh well, its free for now.

Some factory installed radios don't allow for the display of the title and band. I know when I rechip my CTS (which does not have a navigation system), all I will be able to see is the channel (I would be able to see all info if I had the navigation system).

I got Sirius radio in July. I love it!! There is so much on and I don't have to bother with too many commercials. Also, my son loves Radio Disney and that is the only way he can listen to it here as there is no local station. It keeps him entertained on long car rides!!

DH just installed Sirius in our car a few weeks ago. I  it.
I love that there are hardly any commercials at all.

I drive over 300 miles a week for work, and as a result I bought Sirius...and I love it. I mainly listen to Broadway and the Metropolitan Opera channel, and I will never give it up. Lately I've started listening to the 80's channel. I can't wait to start listening to the Christmas music.

I'm going to be the "bad guy" here. Check reception where you live before investing. We apparently live in some type of "dead zone" and could not get Sirius to work anywhere in the house. In the car it was in and out (mostly out) very often. My DH ended up throwing the whole thing out of the bedroom window one night.

If you get a plug and play receiver like Sportser 4, he could use it in both places. At work though he will need line of sight for the antenna to the satellite. That might be tricky.

A great site for information are the forums at www.siriusbackstage.com. And a great place to purchase Sirius receivers is http://www.tss-radio.com/
THANKS!!!!
The main reason I went with Sirius over XM is the sports they each offer. XM gives you all the MLB games, whereas Sirius gives you all the NFL and NBA games. Even though I love baseball, getting the NFL was my main concern (plus, now that the Celtics are finally playing good ball again, getting the NBA was an added bonus).
Besides the sports, the programs do seem pretty similar. Sirius also gives you the old time radio dramas. It should be interesting to see what the new offerings might be once to the two companies merge. I heard something about more affordable rates (starting as low as 6.99 a month), but I'm really not sure at this point.
The main reason I'm looking at Sirius for DH too :)
Boo's Mom, I have a Sportster that I can use in my car and in my house. The intent was to let me use it at work, but there is no clear area for me to get reception. So unfortunately, I cant get it at work.

DH and I love our Sirius, I dont touch regular radio. He even bought me a Stiletto to use when I am at sports with the girls. I love it.

:cool2: that might be a problem for my DH at work too......I like the Stiletto, and the features, but can it be used in your vehicle too? or is it more like an ipod more than anything else?

Thanks everyone for your helpful advice. Like I said, I'm completely lost on this subject

DH got me this for Christmas in 2004 and it is the best gift he ever gave me. EVER, I tell you! I won't go around the block to the mailbox without it!

There are 3 Christmas channels this year - easy listening on 2, country on 60? and classical on 86. They started playing yesterday.

He bought me the boom box which I put in the kitchen. The reception stinks though, so we have to put the receiver out the window, sometimes on a coat hanger to get it to work, but it's worth it!

DD9 loves Radio Disney.

I love Octane, Alt Nation, First Wave, Classic Rewind and Classic Vinyl. I do sometimes listen to the classical station. The local traffic/weather stations are good too.

DH likes Stern, the comedy stations, the 70's and the 80's. When I drive with my grandma I put on the classic jazz station. When we ride with MIL or have DH's family over we put on the 50's station.

We all love the fact that you can see the artist and song title on the screen. Sometimes when I listen to a cd, I look at the cd player to see who it is, lol!

My only issue is I think my reciever is ancient. I lose reception for a couple of seconds if I go under a bridge or up a tree lined street. Sometimes I pull up behind someone and start to hear Howard Stern instead of what my station is tuned to. Obviously, their reciever must be stronger than mine and they are using the same frequency on their radio. Not a biggie, but I would like to upgrade. Probably will wait until '09 to make it 5 years. I think we pay $7 per month for each receiver (DH has one for his car also).

I've only had my Sirius for a couple of months now, but I've used it all up and down the East Coast, and have never had any problem getting a signal. In fact we were up in Northern Maine, staying in a place that was so far out that our cell phone didn't even register half a bar, but our Sirius was still receiving non-stop the whole time we were there. About the only time I lose the signal is when I get a red light while under an over-pass, going through a long tunnel (like the Big-Dig in Boston), or while parked under an overhang, while getting gas. In the house we are staying at I do occasionally lose the signal, but if I adjust the antenna a bit, it usually comes back pretty fast.

Now, I am a bit anxious to find out if the Sirius Web Site is correct when it says that it covers all of North America, including Mexico. We will be back in Mexico next month, and I really hope that it does get reception down there. The web site shows a map of the coverage area, and it does cover all of Mexico on the map, so I'll guess we'll just have to wait and see.
