I'm a single dad travelling with my 10 year old daughter on the 07/25/2015 Fantasy sailing.

We are set for the second dinner seating. I was wondering if anyone knows whether DCL will seat us with other girls her age, so she might be able to meet and become friends while on the cruise. On our last cruise, she really didn't go to the kid's club, so if there were other girls she could meet at dinner, that would be great.

I asked my travel agent about this, and they seemed to think that DCL normally seats single parents and kids of similar age together, but they didn't seem completely certain...

I would say it is likely you would be seated with other kids your daughters age, but as with anything, there isn't a guarantee. DCL does try to match people for dinner seating with people they'd have things in common with. So kids of a similar age would be one thing they would look at.

I'd also suggest that you join a cruise meet group, rather here on the Disboards or on other social media sites. The groups usually have a gathering on embarkation day so they can get to know each other and it's a great way for kids to meet before going to the kids clubs.

In Feb there was a table of fathers and daughters near my table, so I'd guess probably to the degree possible they will try to match up not only your daughter but also with another father if possible so it wouldn't (for most) seem like an attempt at matchmaking. :)

Thanks - I did check out the cruise meet group both on here and on FB, but they seemed mostly focused on fish extenders, at least so far. I'll try that again though.

Try posting a message to ask who has daughters around your DD's age. And also ask if there's a meet up for embarkation day. On our meet group, someone posted over the weekend asking if there would be other cruisers with teens that would be going to the Vibe. In short order, many people replied saying they had teens. We sail in less than 3 weeks, and it was just in the past week or so that the traffic in that meet group has really picked up.

I am a single mom and I sailed on the Wonder with my son for Thanksgiving 2013. He was almost 9. Disney seated us with two other single parents (one a mom, the other a dad) and they each had one son who was about my son's age. It was very nice and we enjoyed the company.

I have sailed 5 times as a single mom and 6 is in 98 days. 4 of the cruises they have matched us with other single parents and kids around the same age. It was great you never felt like you were the only single mom on the ship. On the last one my DS is now 18 we were sitting with other adults and my DS thought it was fun talking to them. You will have a great time and your DD will meet several new friends.

My daughter and I sailed on the wonder last year without my husband and we were seated with 2 other families with similar aged children and 1 of them was also a single mom like myself. I do think they do their best to seat you with similar aged kids.

How did they seat you on your last cruise?

Our last cruise (January 2013) they sat us (me-single parent, two boys-ages 11 and 5 at the time) with one other 2-parent family that had an older daughter, one boy @9, and a toddler. I didn't think they paired with other similar "structures" as a result.
